Unimpressed with the demo. Fielding is horrific and I just had the overwhelming sensation that Im about to get ripped off again. Rental for me.

demo seems good being as though its the first build of the demo. its still a buy for me.
Just played demo during lunch. Quick thoughts:
Why are there no instructions on the changed pitch mechanic? Why does the pitchers view seem so far away? Why no AB review? Gameplay seemed solid though

Here are my impressions:
1) I didn't see any framerate issues. So that's a big plus.
2) The graphics look better than last year, for sure. The crowd is awesome. I hit a foul ball down the line and you could see them wrestling after it, then the camera cut to the view from the stands right next to where it landed!
3) The game felt way too easy. I scored 9 runs before i made an out, and won 14-0 in 2 1/2 innings. This was my first game.
4) The pitching is strange...I am not sure what I am supposed to do...I like last year's pitching better
5) The player faces look better.
6) The commentary was outstanding. Out. Frickin. Standing.
7) The grass looked much better.
8) The bat sounds still suck. The music they played at the end of innings is better though.
I'll probably pick this game up because I love baseball games, but I would stay away if you are expecting a hardcore sim.

For the record, it was a rather elite home theater setup that they actually took away because there were homeless people sort of lounging in there from time to time. Aside from the whole "homeless" part, I wasn't too far from fitting that description.

huge improvement, it's undeniable. The earliest posts in the thread make it seem like a laughable effort from a child. It's good, the hit variety is great. I'm impressed with the progress they've been able to make.
I'm most curious about fielding camera options and replay's. My first game seemed very hard to get anything going and my 2nd game I hit 3 hr's
I want to experiment with not influencing the ball at all, and see if I ever hit a hr, or choppers etc. I think influencing it, isn't just lofting the ball in the air, but actually trying to hit a hr.

I like how they incorporated the Inside Edge features this year.. everything done using the D-pad -- nice to see you can sub pitchers and PH in the demo too..
(I do though miss the lineup card feature they had last year)

Demo was alright. Nothing spectacular but what can you expect from a demo?
+Commentary
+Real time camera
+More hit variety than previous versions
+MUCH smoother than 2k8
-Cpu swings at every strike
-Cole Hamels 3rd or 4th best pitch in this game is his changeup, which was given a 79 rating when in reality it is by far his best pitch.
-Default difficulty of demo is pro which is WAY too easy if you're not new to baseball games. Just hold up and in and watch as you pull about 3-4 homeruns in a 3 inning game. I had two occasions where I pulled balls that were pitched down and away for homeruns. Wish at least they had some options in the demo but that is not a knock on the final product which will have options and sliders.
- Fielding popups is way too clunky. There was a popup to Ryan Howard and I lined him up under the ball and it just dropped right by him. Another instance in the outfield someone on the Rays got a triple because apparently I wasn't under the popup even though I was. INEXCUSABLE. Fielding animations in the outfield are kind of awkward.
That said, this is definitely better than 2k8 and with some tweaking via sliders and difficulty, will be a much better experience, provided the fielding is fixed in the full version of the product.

I thought this game was pretty passable except for the fielding. The fielding is absolutely disgusting. I had one instance of me lining up under neath a ball and having the ball just fly by me for a couple of runs. I had another instance of having a ball driven to the left field wall and smacking off of it and having no one be able to pick up the ball let alone throw it back in. I also had an instance of rushing a bloop left field single to throw to home and having it BOUNCE off of my chest and into center field.......seriously? And since when can a broken bat hit smack off a center field wall? I really enjoyed this game but not being able to field is basically making me never want to play this game again.
Here is a video of the first inning which was posted over on the 2k forums

wow it doesn't look too good for mlb 2k9 according to the impressions. it's not very likely anything is going to change since the game is a week away from being out and probably already getting pressed and packaged.

I just had a 12 pitch at bat against ryan howard, that would have never happened in 2k8!
Just downloaded and played a quick 3 innings.
I'm very impressed, especially after 2k8. Nearly everything is silky smooth. Love the pitching (I liked 2k8's), I love the risk/reward of trying to throw a perfect pitch. Hitting feels right, it responsive to pitch location/timing. As everyone else said, presentation and Gary Thorne are top notch. All in all a very good representation of baseball and a great effort by 2k and VC. Went from a rental to me stopping and pre-ordering later today.
A couple of minor gripes:
- some snap-to with some of the animations. Nothing major. Probably wouldn't have noticed it had I not read it on here before.
- speed burst fielding. As other mentioned, on fly balls, outfields seem to jog for a few seconds, and then sprint like mad to get to the ball. It can kind of throw you for a loop when you think you've hit one in the gap or a bloop and then have the fielder zoom in to snag it.
- couldn't figure out some of the controls. I know, we'll have a manual in the box and everything, but you'd kind of hope that baserunning and some of the other things in the game would be a little bit more intuitive. I don't want to have to use 3 fingers and 2 thumbs to get a guy to stretch a single into a double. Maybe it's just me having trouble with this.
All in all, I'm excited, and I can't wait to see the finished product.
