Anybody else think those gameplay videos didn't look quite as good as the trailer we saw? Didn't look bad, but not really what I was expecting.

looks the same to me honestly.

Who're the announcers this year?

Why am I not surprised by this news? Synergy is a mask...I've said it plenty of times. 23 remember when I explained synergy?.. red flags. now they've gotta QA this extra polish, and expect it to be ready by oct 28th? Red flags

That for a jersey stand point looks better than the trailer. The arm loops look a lot smaller and the jersey's aren't hanging in the back.

While the delay is frustrating (EA can't afford to continue shooting themselves in the foot with these cycles) and the no sliders thing is unacceptable this day in age (my opinion) - these things are overshadowing the improvement the Live team has made.

I mean I still some things in these videos that need fixed:

-Passes still seem to have a bit of float to them
-Hand/Rim interaction on specific dunks makes them feel disconnected
-Why is Howard fronting Tristan Thompson? LOL
-Is the Harden collision a canned animation? Hopefully there's a good mixture of acrobatic shots, blocked shots and misses.
-Seems to be a bit too fast for me overall (this is where sliders can come into play...)

Overall though, I'm impressed. I love the responsiveness that looks to be present in these videos. A user can finally be rewarded by utilizing a triple-threat move and catch his defender off-guard with the correct counter. I've always felt that "explosiveness" out of triple-threat has been missing in any NBA game. I love the hop catch on Harden's top of the key pass, I love the plant foot by Waiters to keep his position right at the 3-point line instead of being "sucked" out further into the backcourt. I can see the effectiveness of on-ball defense to force Waiters to stop penetration and find the open look. The contest on the Lebron shot is great.

These are my first impressions. I'm sure the more I watch them, I'll find some quirks and some other things I appreciate.

Didn't look amazing but it didn't look bad either. I liked what i saw. I also LOVED the player chatter. More of a on the court feel than a broadcast feel. I hope we there is a lot more of it. Maybe we can get a demo since we have 3 extra weeks.

The harden play looked ok but the rest was pretty bad imo. They need a new engine! Not a extra 3 weeks. On next gen systems I refuse to lower my expectations sorry live.

Exactly. They need 3 more years to even catch up to even be at 2k5. They really need to start from scratch. None of the animations look realistic at all. Same crappy animation, movement, and dunks from ps2 days. Let's not kid ourselves...

Some People liked lebron's dunk and harden's layup? I don't get it....Is it just nostalgia from the ps2 days? Is that why people are drawn to ps2 animations?

Would have loved to see a decent effort this year, but they need more than a year to make a decent game.

In the vid Lebron had 27 out of the 29 points on 9-24 from field in the 2nd qtr wow that's ridiculous did it take 50 attempts for those clips Live please go home. I did but Live 14, I'm extremely disappointed

I agree man! I think they need to invest in a new engine and stop cutting corners with that prehistoric engine they have been using for the last 15 or so years. Introducing a new engine will help them get to where they need to be.

Thats why sliders are needed in every sports game.

True realistic can vary some from person but not by much. There's stats that reflect things like rebounding and/or dunking in traffic etc. If in a season on average there's 10 offensives rebounds per game and you play a game on Live and there's 7-13 that's OK especially considering which players are grabbing the boards. However if there there's 2 a game on average or 20 that's not even close to realistic.

Yes! Can we please talk about those passes though? Those looked so awkward...like balloons floating

Absolutely - new engine, new mocap, new everything (though i suppose they deserve credit for the body scans..makes for good screenshots).

What i don't get is... Hasn't anyone from EA played 2k in the last 10 years? Are they in denial about what a good basketball game is? Have they watched basketball? Have they played basketball? How is any of this acceptable to them having played 2k or even seen real basketball?

Not saying 2k is perfect, but they know where basketball games need to go.EA doesn't, else they would have overhauled this game.

I guess if people are like fake looking stuff, then they have another winner right here. I suppose there's a market for everything.

This is a nonsense argument. Who are you to decide what I think is realistic? I may think that 7 offensive rebounds is too low if the season average is 10. Or the 2015 offensive rebound average may increase to 13 but because there are no sliders I'm stuck with a 7-12 range.

Ehhhhhh...15 looks better than 14 no doubt, but those stiff animations are really a turn off...

Is there some way they can make the movements more fluid/natural looking??? I think thats what really hurts live.

ps why did EA post the vids as "unlisted" ??

# 237 L1njured @ 09/08/14 11:21 PM
it's actually not bad. I mean, it's not anywhere near "2K Level" but it's definitely a step in the right direction. My expectations for Live this year( or next year or the decade after that) isn't really high to begin with. I just expect a fully functioning game that you can actually play. I'll still be buying 2k15 come October 7th but it's nice to see that EA is atleast trying to build a solid foundation to expand upon in future Live titles. Don't expect Live 15 to be a masterpiece. If so, you're dumb enough to even dream it was possible.

# 238 King_B_Mack @ 09/08/14 11:33 PM
I can't even begin to understand how somebody is seriously here in 2014 defending in any way, shape or form a decision to include less OPTIONS in a video game. As a gamer, particularly a sports gamer it is NEVER a bad thing to have customization options.

I find it hilarious how EA has lowered the bar so low for themselves that people are clamoring for them to just put out a decent product. So because EA can't seem to make a solid basketball game for the life of them they automatically get this sympathy card from people? I just don't get it. I get tired of hearing "Live doesn't have to compete they just have to make a decent game" or "they're making strides in the right direction" smh. Man bump all that nonsense! How many years are we gonna give this company to get their act together? It's been 5 YEARS since they released a decent basketball game! 5 YEARS! The truth of the matter is they ARE in competition with 2K no matter how anyone wants to slice it. It's easy for us to say "It's ok EA just put out a game you can be proud of" when it's not our $ being invested ol. EA has shareholders they have to answer to. Bottom line is this game has to sell in order for this series to have a future. EA knows this hence the delay til Oct 28th.

I personally think the 9 lives (no pun intended lol) NBA Live seems to have has more to do with us just wanting so badly to have 2 basketball games to choose from being that every other sport (with the exception of Soccer) has lost all competition. People are just desperate for competition. That doesn't mean EA should get a pass. They've had long enough to get it together. Enough is enough. They need to be judged according to 2014 Next Gen sports game standards not I just hope it's better than Live 10 standards.

Sorry for the rant but I speak out of disappointment because I grew up Live
Nothing to add, very well said

They were playing user vs. user some things I noticed

  • I really liked the explosion out of triple threat by LeBron. That quick step looks very well done
  • The iso dribble by Harden is very, very well done. Speed, cross, hesi explosion. It actually looks hard to guard Harden as it should be at times.
  • I don't know if this is one of the bugs but in two plays the Harden play they are running a quick play like a zipper action play and Waiters play as well. There is a long, long delay for the defense to stick his man that has to be a fixed.
  • Looks like basketball not perfect but believable.
  • Animations are actually better than I thought they would be but it is like they need more frames in the animations to smooth it out
