2nd video looks good....the only thing that looks like to be a problem on OFFENSE cpu ai is the lack of dump and chase strategy. The cpu when dumping the puck mostly does it AFTER they enter the blue line. This results in too many unnecessary turnovers by the cpu because they try to skate into the blue line too much.

there is a dump slider tendency slider I think, so it could be fixable.

Other than that, other things looked good.

pass speed, pass accuracy, shot speed, goalie skill need a bit of a decrease for sliders i think, and if all those work nicely, this game could be real good.

september 15th feels soo far away.

Didn't I see a "Dump Puck Frequency" slider in the list Bish posted? If so, hopefully maxing that one out will help with this.

Also and more important, the players appear to have weight and momentum. And seem to be actually skating, and not skittering along the top of the ice like waterbugs (as is the case with another hockey game, the name of which escapes me).
You have a point!

Arcadey as hell and what the hell was WWTC thinking??? 2 empty net goals against???

Man. Pretty sure I just went from a later purchase to no purchase at all.

The puck suctions to goalies HORRIBLY...the puck physics in general don't come CLOSE to NHL 10.

Oy...

Another good looking video. I'm so glad that my main issue with game play seems to be fixed and that's the cpu defensemen. They all look to be in pretty good position and not playing catch up all the time like 2k9. The animations are the best to date in any game I have seen. Like seeing the ref flatten himself against the boards to get out of the way. Puck movement is very nice and the CPU seems super aggressive. Very well done.

Also liked seeing the flyers shoot it off the boards. What a thing of beauty watching them cycle the puck before getting a shot off. The more I see, the more I like.

I was really hoping, like everyone else, to get my hands on with this with a demo release. Second to that, some gameplay videos with "sim sliders" are probably the best thing we could get.

I'll be 100% honest. There are some little things I liked about 2K9, but overall I felt it was a pretty terrible game. This, to me, just looks a lot like 2K9 with better player models, textures, etc.

I can't sit here and ignore all that they've done to the graphical engine. 2K9 looked like a PS2 game, and 2K10 has made great strides in the graphical dept.

Looking forward to reviews on this, and I'll probably rent it eventually, but NHL10's already got my money (and my time) so I'll probably end up passing this year. Oh well.

I'm lost... Not in a good way or a bad way.... I don't know what to think yet.. There is alot of good and alot of bad IMO... I think we will be able to fix alot of it with sliders.. Animations are great... Before faceoffs players are battling already.. Someone said of the refs that they turn against the board to get out of the way... It gives the appearance that it is a hockey game... I can't put my finger on it though.. The puck freezes not even within a second for the computer goalie.. He makes a save and not even 1 second goes by and it's frozen.. I am not seeing boardplay... How people think these are amazing puck physics is beyond me.. The puck never bounces off the goalie for a rebound chance. When a player turns to pass the puck it just looks horrid... As for the atmosphere it looks great but I wanna hear the game on my tv in surround sound to tell.. Thats why a demo would be great... Mixed bag for me...Good and bad

why was there an empty net goal scored at 1750 of the third period?

wtf?

Pin ball Puck arcade action tape to tape passing no pinning or board play the whole game. There something about the way the players make little movments and the way they turn that just seems way to fast for me. I just don't like the flow of the game hard to explain.

Thats exactly what I think as well. Just doesn't flow on the quick movements.. Because the way the players look when they skate in open ice and kinda do a slow turn looks great.. Looks like they are skating on ice... But when they are bunched up and the puck handler and defender look like they can do a figure skating spin... then I have seen shots and passes with your back against the defender and the puck handler spins around at 189 MPH and gets a shot off that was like a defensmen slapshot...

Just got done watching the third period...I have some concerns about the CPU AI in the game, especially since this was played on sim settings. The CPU frequently will enter the zone and skate right at the defenseman rather than skate to the outside or better yet dump the puck deep into the zone. While the CPU did score some goals, they only had 20 shots which isn't a heckuva lot. The CPU AI seems to pass at really weird times...there were many instances where they made a pass back to the blueline when there was a clear lane to the net.

Players at times looks like they are on a swivel with the quick 360 degree rotation...looks odd especially since the puck is somehow magnetically attached to the stick.

As already mentioned, passing is way too accurate. The CPU completed 92% of their passes. I guess I expected more sim-style gameplay out of WWTC as he has always been a hardcore hockey guy.

Oh well...hopefully sliders can help some of this. Graphically it looks great, and the checking animations are phenomenal. I am really digging the overlays in the game too.

There are some good and bad from that video.. I just need to see it in action (damn you 2k and no demo).

The nonexistent board play has me concerned.. was that taken out?

In 2K, they dont have final minute in real time, so like pulling the goalie in the last minute of EA, its the same as pulling it with 2 mins left in 2k. Just an explanation

Some nice highlights in that period. I really liked the Briere goal where he carries the puck into the zone while criss-crossing with his teammate. Then he uses the defender as a screen and nets a hard shot. It's very rare if ever that I've seen or noticed a cpu teammate peform a criss-cross at the blue line.

More fantastic cpu cycling.

Lots of incidental contact and collisions, as well as puck/player separation.

I'd really like to know what the slider and gameplay settings were so that we could see how they produced what we saw.

For me, the effectiveness of the sliders will be the biggest determining factor as to whether or not the game will be great.

Kudos to the graphics team (Heather, I think) for really bringing 2k10 up to next-gen standards.

Oh, and still not really digging the goalies.

But I like this game. I don't know why, but I just do. I like EA a lot too. But the presentation is what make this the game for me. hope if you get this game you come up with some sliders. I love your sliders over any ones that I have played with. Though I would love to see real stats for 20 minutes periods. They said you should be able to do that this year.
From what I've seen so far, along with the listed sliders, I really do think the game could be tweaked for realistic 20 minute periods.

I too am very interested to find out how the goalies and defense can be adjusted through sliders. Hopefully you'll get the chance to do some tweaking.

Definitely interested in more about the presentation, especially the team-specific intros. I'm surprised that we have seen anything yet, considering how much ballyhooing has been going on about them. I'd like to know if they actually do mimic the real intros, like Minnesota's kid skating to center ice with a flag on a hockey stick and planting it on the faceoff dot. Stuff like that we be awesome to see in a game.

Overall, still very much on the fence with this game. I see a ton of potential for a great offline experience, despite some of the same awkward animations. Without the demo, it's impossible to get a feel for the controls to determine how skating and shooting respond, which really is discounting it as a release-day purchase right now. 2k really should set up something here in Minnesota at the Mall of America. Considering the huge interest in hockey here, I think it would go over big.

Wasn't there a "Last Minute Real Time" slider once upon a time? Or did that disappear in 2K8? I don't remember seeing it in 2K9 so maybe they removed it from the series entirely once VC took over...

The way WWTC was playing was pretty suspect to begin with, passing up scoring chances left and right and consistantly taking himself out of position defensively made it almost look like he was trying to give the AI scoring chances for the sake of saying the offensive AI is improved.

On the whole its better than 2k9, unfortunately not by much.
Agressiveness sliders should take care of that. I read what had to say WWTC on 2khockeynet and that's hardly what he was doing.
