The way WWTC was playing was pretty suspect to begin with, passing up scoring chances left and right and consistantly taking himself out of position defensively made it almost look like he was trying to give the AI scoring chances for the sake of saying the offensive AI is improved.

On the whole its better than 2k9, unfortunately not by much.
Agressiveness sliders should take care of that. I read what had to say WWTC on 2khockeynet and that's hardly what he was doing.

I too am very interested to find out how the goalies and defense can be adjusted through sliders. Hopefully you'll get the chance to do some tweaking.

Definitely interested in more about the presentation, especially the team-specific intros. I'm surprised that we have seen anything yet, considering how much ballyhooing has been going on about them. I'd like to know if they actually do mimic the real intros, like Minnesota's kid skating to center ice with a flag on a hockey stick and planting it on the faceoff dot. Stuff like that we be awesome to see in a game.

Overall, still very much on the fence with this game. I see a ton of potential for a great offline experience, despite some of the same awkward animations. Without the demo, it's impossible to get a feel for the controls to determine how skating and shooting respond, which really is discounting it as a release-day purchase right now. 2k really should set up something here in Minnesota at the Mall of America. Considering the huge interest in hockey here, I think it would go over big.
I doubt they would have that, but I will ask. Also, there is potential for a good game here. IF the sliders do work. If they do I think we might have a 20 minute period in here somewhere. I will see how the controls work and see how responsive they are. I agree about the great mall. I am going to have to check that out some day. Maybe I can talk my dad or my friend in to going to a Vikings game in Minnesota.

I think it was in 2K9 as well.

  • The Player Models have improved from any NHL 2k game. The players look very real, and I have to give credit. The models in 2k9 were awful.
  • I still think the skating looks akward at times. There were a few instances where they were literally skating into the boards.
  • I like the cycling. You don't see much of that in video games, and for the A.I. to be doing that is simply phenominal
  • The announcing is awful. Sounds very robotic and unnatural. Say what you want, but at least the EA series always did a decent job in this aspect. And no emotion for the goals either.
  • The arena looks like the Verizon Center. Nicely done.
  • The one-handed stickhandling is overused.
  • The puck physics were iffy at times. But the breakouts looked very solid.

The game has a ton of potential, but the only way to give it a test is to rent it at your local Blockbuster. However, this does look better than NHL 2k9, and I believe this game still has a couple of years before catching up to EA in terms of sales and overall gameplay.

I loved the menu, and how it looked when you looked at team stats. Invoked some memories of the EA series for the Sega Genesis.

Also to note, while the A.I. was improved, their were some slips, such as when Randy Jones attempts a pass and Ovechkin was right next to him.

I'll give 2k a rental, and hopefully if they can pull me in, I can add another NHL 2k game to my collection.

It is nice to have the option. I know alot of people like the way the clock works in EA hockey, but not me. In '08, I didn't really like how the clock would speed up, then slow down for powerplays, then speed up if it was dumped the length of the ice, then slow down again, then speed up after the power play, then slow down in the last minute. Not sure if EA added the options for this last year??

I also like how 2K gives the option to set the real time of 2 minute penalties. That is real nice, especially if playing shorter periods.

Great observations! I totally agree. Though I like the skating on a whole, you just see more weight in the skating.

I agree with most of what you said, but I happen to like the announcing. The worst to me in any sport was NBA 2K9. Hopefully more folks will rent the game, because it's really the only way to know how much it has improved. You mentioned Blockbuster, but Hollywood video always has more copies of games to rent, at least in Northern Virginia.

Re: NHL 2K10 Gameplay Video (2KHockey.net)

I have not bought a hockey title on this gen yet and was giving 2k10 consideration because of the price point ...gameplay looks more than sufficient but the...commentary...feels very...disjointed...and not at all something I think I'd enjoy

hate to beat the dead horse but I really needed a demo here
