If "it is programmed to function that way" I say it's badly programmed.

Yet it makes fouls aplenty against me.
Can you tell how many you consider to be "aplenty"? Can you show us a video showing your claims?

No, but you do need to master certain basic skills required of a professional football player. How else could you expect the AI to play realistically if you don't even master a required few basic skills in order to make the AI ''life's difficult''?
I don't agree. If AI was playing "realistically" it would make many fouls. Just a portion of the total CPU fouls should be related to USER ability.

I give you one simple example: How many fouls you see in real life made in aerial battles? How many do you see in FIFA or PES in the same context?

I agree on the issue of fouls. Yes, I can goad the CPU into fouling me, so I do see a decent number of fouls.

But, where the realism fails in FIFA, is that fouls should be a natural result of physical play and errors. Even average CPU defenders, or any position for that matter, are too clinical with their tackles.

EA patched the demo, now the gameplay is sped up... predictable.

I'm not good or maybe intelligent enough to figure the following out from 4 mins.

Is there actually build up this year and do you notice teams playing differently and do star players play differently?

Also, anyone see shooting from distance yet? The few games I have played I haven't seen a single shot from outside the box

AI all play the same, and never attempt long shots

Never have, sadly

I've seen shots from outside the box. The CPU will do it if you give them nothing else. The problem is that it is the new low driven shot which the CPU likes to use non stop.

FFS

I love FIFA's licenses, commentary and yearly innovation (i.e.: corner and FKs), but PES has the more realistic gameplay yet lacks the above.

Sucks from us.

If it was easier to pull off moves in PES, i'd enjoy it more as well. Whereas FIFA makes it waaaay too easy to pull of extremely difficult moves... easier than simple moves in PES haha

They need to combine!

I've played +30 demo matches now and only had 2 fouls against me. Chelsea seem to be the only team who likes long balls - CPU is ping pong passing too much some times.
Not enough long shots from the CPU - they try to drible too much.

There's a lot of good stuff also as reflections, balls into open space etc.

But let us be fair - it's impossible to make a fair judgement of the demo with only 4 min. halves.

I'm still loving the demo - but I start to see a pattern from the typical FIFA CPU.

My hopes are up for the full game with my EA Access on the 22th.

Is Pass accuracy bugged? Most of the time CPU ends with >90% and than I had this game... Bayern with 68% at half time and 76% in the end! (World Class level)

About penalties: I like this new system. Previous one was too basic and boring. Now is much more diverse and realistic. I wish Goal Kicks could have a more complex and diverse system also.

# 272 BSDShoes @ 09/17/16 03:15 PM
I'm noticing something with the CPU, with a 0-0 match the CPU is basically laid back, but if the CPU scores a goal they become extremely aggressive after that and charge at my net like they're behind instead of leading resulting in scoring another goal almost right after the first goal and saw a bit of that early on in FIFA 15. Anyone else encounter that? Occurs on professional, world class and legendary.

Here's my Demo playthrough, it's not far off, if tactics work...man that will be great.

Nice work as always Matt. Can't wait for your slider work this year.

Hate to be a broken record as well. But there was only one foul in the entire game he played. With 4 minute halves I would at least expect 2-4.

Matt, we've been saying the exact same things the last 4-5 years. How many thousands of posts will it take this time to realize that we are just banging our heads against a big corporate brick wall? We touched on this the other night, but I am not at a place where I can sink 100 plus hours on a poorly made game any more.

Really? You mean 6,000 posts and 1,000,000 views for FIFA 16 sliders wasn't a tad...excessive?

Spoiler

Is anyone else noticing a difference in the demo or am I just imagining it?

Played a few games last night and I actually had fun with it. It seemed like the AI was smarter somehow. Or at least less cheap and didn't cheat as much. I also got my first free kick from a potential scoring position and a penalty. I was up until 1 playing because I got sucked into it.

This is the first time I'm actually now a little excited to pick this up whereas before last night I had decided it's not worth it. I'll have to play more. It's probably just placebo.

It's playing remarkably differently from the first few days i played it.

There and then i was allowed with much too much ease to slide through the center like a blunt knife through butter, after opportunely having cut inside from the wing, yet now the AI's defensive composure seems much more stabilized.

To name but one improvement i noticed after the patch i read has been allegedly implemented.

Agreed.

My judgement of the reasonability of the quantity and frequency of fouls i see occur in this game happens in comparison to last year's track record of fouls which didn't come anywhere near the amount of fouls one should be seeing.

By aplenty, i mean to commend an amount of 4 fouls across a game of 8 minutes, which is an amount that satisfies me greatly when compared to last season's legacy of AI error.
In here you can see a reasonable amount of fouls:

By Real Madrid, as well, if memory doesn't deceive me:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hn9Vr4zOJwg
I think the majority of fouls committed in this game happened in the second part of the game i uploaded.

We share the same premises and judgements.

For a long time now i've abanonded most if not all of my hopes for EA to make the AI play as organically as it ideally should be---if it's meant to replicate human behaviour---which has made it easier for me to reconcile with certain patterns which recur every year, and which also, quite understandably, disappoint people every year.

The AI's nowhere near acting like it would be supposed to, in our eyes, but i say it's not that badly performing either...at least in the demo...

That's cause the AI's programmed to function like a faultless machine and will only make mistakes according to where the momentum across the scale of punish vs reward's shifted.

Down to its core it's a sickening ''program'', for lack of a more suitable term, yet if one's committed to playing this game like i am, for better or for worse, there definitely are ways to make the game play more realistically.

Yes, it is up to us, and ideally that shouldn't be entirely the case, but that's the way the tasteful yet unfulfilling cookie crumbles.
