NBA 2K17 News Post

Hi everyone! My name is Ben Bishop, and I’m a Senior Producer here at Visual Concepts. I spend most of my time working on all things MyCAREER, so I’m here to fill you in on the new and exciting changes we made for the mode in NBA 2K17.

You’ve probably heard about The Prelude by now, but if you haven’t, check out the trailer, or just try it out. It’ll be available on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network on September 9, and it’s completely free! The Prelude covers the college portion of MyCAREER, and has a ton of great content. If you want a head start on your career, or even just to get a taste of what the game is like this year, I promise it’ll be worth your time. But the intent of this blog is to cover everything ELSE you’ll find in MyCAREER, so let’s get started.

Ugh I hope not. I guess I'm confused because in this blog he mentions being able to grind your way to potentially being a 99 overall.

To me the worst part of the game is my career even if it is loved by many. I really just want to create my player and compete in proam but am forced to play a stupid story mode against AI which I loath so my player is not disadvantaged on Pro-am/Park. I know there are a ton of players like me out there and can't understand why we are not allowed to earn additional attribute boxes and badges while playing my park/Pro am.

I don't even want to necessarily be a 99 overall, I just want to be able to shoot better if I'm tall for my position. Or be able to be a great defender even if I don't pick that archetype.

I disagree. It's unrealistic but I believe it definitely should be like that. If it's not, most people will not experience Free Agency. Off the top of my head, a team gets to keep a drafted rookie for about 3-4 years? Most people aren't going to play that many seasons to make it to a FA.

So I love that 2K found a way to make you one after your first season. I don't see how it's really a issue. If you want it to be realistic like, stay w/ your current team for 2-3 more years.

How do upgrades work this season?
Also the weight room?

# 68 LO6IX @ 09/02/16 11:19 AM
Is there any particular reason why we can't upgrade each attribute individually?

I thought there would be something about contract negotiations. It was too basic in 2K16. We didn't even know what the roster would look like before signing.
Can we negotiate the number of years, VC, add player option, incentives, no trade clause? Can we see our team's cap space? Can we look at offers from more than three teams at once and be able to decline the team's we aren't interested in? The more/less minutes and VC contract negotation returing would be a huge disappointment with all the other improvements being made to the mode.

I think its 3 yrs but cant remember the fourth is team option i think.... you can ask for a trade if you don't want to stay with that team after year 1. After 3rd year I'd like to try for a max deal or maybe become a free agent after year 2

This looks cool.. Im not a My Career guy though but its looks cool.

I just hope in future, they can in corporate the D League and the EuroLeague. Have your player get drafted but cut then show the options. Think that would put many hours into it showing how hard it is just trying to be a NBA athlete.

I think they meant, last year of high school, one and done in college, and first year in NBA.

Could be wrong, but hat sounds right. Free agent after first year was awful.

Most people would want to experience of being a Free Agent especially if 2K got it right this year. So if it was realistic you'd have to wait for about 4 years because the team most likely will pick that up. So I believe how 2K had it worked best because you can be a FA or do it how you wanted by just resigning for a few more years or maybe have the option where you can asked to be picked up w/ a team option after the first year for people like you.

You should be able to negotiate that where that'll keep you happy as well. Just sign a 1-2 year deal w/ your current team. But most barely get through one year and they do that because of attributes. I play MyCareer heavy and barely reach 4 seasons unless I Sim.

I thought this was unnecessarily penalizing people that want to get through their career fast. I want to actually finish a full 15-20 year career this year but things like that made it difficult. Please tell me that's changed.
I believe that they do this to reward the user for actually playing games and to put a stop to "farming" XP, because you could create a secondary MyCareer file, sim every last game, appear at every endorsement event and rack up the XP very quickly, so I doubt it's changed at all tbh.

I feel you man and both of those seem like things you'd be able to work on and improve in real life. But at the same time I'd rather make another player that can do other things than play pro am against a cheeser who can do everything

Sounds good to me, can't wait. I love MyCareer and it's the role playing part of it that I like the most.

Please tell me you can skip the cutscenes.

Personally, I used to create all kinds of MCs before they made the MyPlayer the only option. I made my kids, previous players, and even just random characters I thought up. I can no do this.
