WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I Finished Limbo finally!

WOW those last like 10-15 puzzles were total bitches!

Played/Finished the game this past weekend. Completely unsatisfied by the ending, but the gameplay was fun. Still, I'd like to slap the developers for trying to be so "artsy" with their approach to the story... Screw them and their whole "we leave it open ended for the player to decide" bullcrap.

Yeah that ending blew chunks :( Very disappointed.

I loved the artiness of the game itself. Once it got 2/3 of the way through it kinda lost the story and the cool atmosphere a little and just became lots of hard puzzles in a row. It added some neat elements at the end but that's when it also got frustrating and grueling.

I didn't think it was really openended at the end. I thouyght it was just they didn't actually let us enjoy the ending.

Exclusive: Valve said to be working on 'Steam Box' gaming console with partners, could announce at GDC | The Verge (http://www.theverge.com/2012/3/2/2840932/exclusive-valve-steam-box-gaming-console)

Recently there's been chatter that Valve — the company behind the massively popular gaming service Steam — has been considering getting into the hardware business. Specifically, there have been rumors that the company has been toying with the idea of creating a proper set-top console which could potentially pose a threat to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Valve co-founder Gabe Newell even recently told Penny Arcade: "Well, if we have to sell hardware we will."

At a glance that would simply be interesting fodder for a gaming forum debate, but we've uncovered information that suggests that not only has Valve been secretly working on gaming hardware for the living room, but that the company is actively pursuing a strategy which would place Steam at the center of an open gaming universe that mirrors what Google has done with Android. Backing up that concept, in the same interview we quote above, Newell says that Valve doesn't really want to do hardware on its own, stating, "We'd rather hardware people that are good at manufacturing and distributing hardware do [hardware]. We think it's important enough that if that's what we end up having to do, then that's what we end up having to do."

That jibes pretty well with this rumored arrangement.

According to sources, the company has been working on a hardware spec and associated software which would make up the backbone of a "Steam Box." The actual devices may be made by a variety of partners, and the software would be readily available to any company that wants to get in the game.

Adding fuel to that fire is a rumor that the Alienware X51 may have been designed with an early spec of the system in mind, and will be retroactively upgradable to the software.

Apparently meetings were held during CES to demo a hand-built version of the device to potential partners. We're told that the basic specs of the Steam Box include a Core i7 CPU, 8GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA GPU. The devices will be able to run any standard PC titles, and will also allow for rival gaming services (like EA's Origin) to be loaded up.

Part of the goal of establishing a baseline for hardware, we're told, is that it will give developers a clear lifecycle for their products, with changes possibly coming every three to four years. Additionally, there won't be a required devkit, and there will be no licensing fees to create software for the platform.

We're hearing that a wide variety of USB peripherals will be compatible with the boxes, though it will likely ship with a proprietary controller. It's possible that the controller will even allow for swappable components, meaning that it can be reconfigured depending on the type of game you're playing. Think that sounds odd? Well Valve filed a patent for such a device last year.

Additionally, we're told that the kind of biometrics Valve uses in game testing will somehow be incorporated into these devices. Sources of ours say that the realtime biometric feedback in games will be a sea-change for users. To put it more succinctly, the sentiment we've heard is: "You won't ever look back." These biometric devices could come in the form of a bracelet, or be part of the standard controller.

The consoles will also take advantage of Steam's "Big Picture" mode, a feature Valve touted last year at GDC, but has yet to release to the public. According to the company's press release in 2011 "With big picture mode, gaming opportunities for Steam partners and customers become possible via PCs and Macs on any TV or computer display in the house."

The most interesting piece of this puzzle may be related to that statement. According to sources, the Steam Box isn't intended to just clash with current gaming consoles. Rather, Valve wants to take Apple and its forthcoming new Apple TV products head-on. Newell has clear questions about Apple's strategy, telling the The Seattle Times "On the platform side, it's sort of ominous that the world seems to be moving away from open platforms," adding that "They build a shiny sparkling thing that attracts users and then they control people's access to those things."

The Steam Box could be unveiled at GDC, though we're also hearing that the company may wait until E3 this year to show off what it's been working on.

One thing is for sure, however: if these rumors turn out to be correct, there could be a whole new kind of battle for control of your living room happening in the near future. Of course, much of this is pieced together from a variety of sources, and there could be moving parts which we can't see. Some of this information could change.

We've reached out to Valve for comment, and will update the post with any new information we receive.

I can see the point of having a hardware standard that both developers can optimize for, and it could be good for people who aren't big into keeping up with hardware but interested in PC gaming could buy a system they would know could play the latest games. That said, I agree that it will have a tough time taking off if is significantly more expensive that consoles and it doesn't look like something I would be interested in personally.

What I probably would consider buying is a set top box built around Steam's upcoming Big Picture Mode. Something I could plug into my TV and then connect to my PC through a wifi network plus plug in a game pad. Some way to make it easy to play game from my PC on a TV in a different room.

Yep same here. The sole reason I never played HL2 until about 12 months ago despite loving HL1 was due to the fact that I refused to download Steam to install the title. Now, it's probably the most used "app" on my PC...

ATI drivers commonly have issues, and from what I learned is if things are working it's best not to update the drivers unless you absolutely have to, or you want to increase performance of a game that just had a Catalyst profile updated. ATI drivers can be a pain to deal with, which is why I went with an NVIDIA card, even though ATI cards are typically a better value hardware wise.

I played it a bit at a friend and judging from what he showed me, this game is plain bad. There´s so many essential things missing (like pit stop strategy. Not being able to set this is like a football game with no manual play calling) and the race engine is beyond bad, nothing realistic about it.

If anybody wants a fun classic (and free) F1 management game as an alternative :

Download Grand Prix Manager 2 | Abandonia (http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/912/Grand+Prix+Manager+2.html)

essential downloads (mods and also stuff to make it work on newer Systems) : Downloads « GPM2World (http://www.gpm2world.com/?page_id=55)

you definitely need : http://www.gpm2world.com/?file_id=26 (newest patch)
http://www.gpm2world.com/?file_id=21 (manual)
wing32.dll free download - DLL-files.com (http://www.gpm2world.com/?file_id=22) (dll file needed, has to go in system32 folder (for 32bit Windows) or the SysWOW64 folder (for 64bit Windows)

It´s from the same guys that also made the classic GP racing games (which are still a million times better than what has come out in recent years. I would spent hours perfecting my setups to get that precious 1/10 second better and it was so deep and yet intuitive ...)

I spent many, many hours with this game. Not flashy, but adicitive and gets the details right (as of 15 years ago, of course). There´s even rule changes included from season to season making certain stuff legal or illegal (thus rendering your work developing either brilliantly spent or useless) and the game is not just fun for a season or 2 but has longterm playability as well.
Heck, even injuries from crashes and replacement drivers are in.

You can play either 10 years or do 3 years in a scenario mode. Fully customizeable, too (you can change the point system, the power of the engines, the skill of the designers, engineers

edit : Here´s the 2011 mod (you only need to download the .dll files above, the mod includes the fully patched game. Just unzip and you are good to go) http://www.gpm2world.com/?file_id=64

Indie Game: The Movie will be sold through Steam | PC Gamer (http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/05/24/indie-game-the-movie-will-be-sold-through-steam/)

Astronomers, heed my call: have the stars that control the fate of digital distribution may entered some strange alignment? After releasing a board game earlier today, we learn that Steam will be selling a film on the service next month. Appropriately, it’s Indie Game: The Movie.

The Kickstarted film has been popping up in theaters since March, and will also be available on iTunes when it releases on Steam on June 12. I wouldn’t expect this—at the very most, Valve is testing the waters for selling other content with something that’s highly relevant to gamers.

The Source Filmmaker (SFM) is the movie-making tool built and used by us here at Valve to make movies inside the Source game engine. Because the SFM uses the same assets as the game, anything that exists in the game can be used in the movie, and vice versa. By utilizing the hardware rendering power of a modern gaming PC, the SFM allows storytellers to work in a what-you-see-is-what-you-get environment so they can iterate in the context of what it will feel like for the final audience.

To celebrate the announcement of the SFM, we've also released "Meet the Pyro", the ninth installment in the "Meet the Team" series. Like all of our animated shorts, we made it using the SFM.

If you're interested in making movies and games in parallel, sign up for an SFM beta key and start shooting your movie on location inside the world of TF2 today.

Steam Community :: Greenlight (http://steamcommunity.com/greenlight/)

What is Steam Greenlight?
Steam Greenlight is a new system that enlists the community's help in picking some of the next games to be released on Steam. Developers post information, screenshots, and videos for their game and seek a critical mass of community support in order to get selected for distribution. Steam Greenlight also helps developers get feedback from potential customers and start creating an active community around their game as early in the development process as they like.

I know of a game that should be here. What do I do?
Go contact the game developer and suggest that they submit their game here for consideration.

There's a game on Greenlight that I really want to see succeed. What can I do?
Go tell your friends, just don't be annoying about it.

How do I report a fake/fraudulent/malicious game in Greenlight?
When you're looking at the page for a game in Greenlight, there is a 'Report' right next to the rating buttons, below the screenshots. Please report the item and tell us why you're doing so.

The email is for the optional two step verification rather than a DRM restriction. You can turn it off, but it really is a great security feature to protect your account so it is really not recommended that you do.

There may be some games with activation limits outside of Steam's DRM, but Steam itself doesn't have any such restriction. You'll be able to download games on your account as many times as you would like on any number of PCs, provided you only have one active login at a time.

Make sure you download V0.2 of the "Game of Thrones" mod. V0.1 doesn't work with the latest patch.

I have been playing as Bronze Yohn Royce. My goal is to have the Royce's become Lords of the Vale.

It progresses slowly, though my current character, Andar Royce, is married to Margery Tyrell, though my first character, Yohn, did end up giving her two children while he was still alive and she was his daughter-in-law. Weird, I know.

Am I just dense or are today's deals going on for way more than a day? Says the offer for COD:MW3 ends more than 27 hours...

Anyway, that's one my son will be happy to get. He left for a Summer camp last Sunday and I told him to give me a wishlist if the sale ever started when he'd be away and that one was at the top of his list ;)

I picked the Manderly's of White Harbour and ALSO married Margaery to my son, while I picked up one of the Sand Snakes. Early on especially it's hard to ignore all the 'name' character in the game.

I did enjoy seeing Tyrion as head of the Lannister's quite early in my game too.

I don't remember applying for it - and I'm fairly sure I never did considering I hadn't heard of it prior to the offer when I opened Steam last night - but apparently I'm a beta tester for the Valve Filmmaker. Downloaded it last night but haven't tried it yet.

Picking up for sure Binding of Isaac. Heard some cool stuff about it. Will probably jump on the Tribes starter pack, too.

Debating on the others like Max Payne and Anno. With all the little purchases I am making I am having a hard time justifying $25+ for a game. By the time I play through what Im getting I could probably wait for a Christmas sale for these. Also debating Sonic. Played the shit out of Sonic as a youngster, but was hoping it would be a few bucks cheaper. Anybody play it?

if anyone´s interested in the game Anno 2070. In the german store, the Anno 2070 Collection is actually cheaper while containing some DLCs.

Might try out From Dust, seems like an intriguing concept.

If you have a group you play co-op games with Payday is also worth considering. It's similar to Left 4 Dead though more focused on completing objectives than just getting to the end of the level. The bank robbery or jewel heist type missions can be incredibly intense and exciting with a good group of teammates. Unfortunately it isn't nearly as polished as Left 4 Dead, and has an experience system to level up and unlock different weapons and accessories (which can be a positive for some, though I've never really been a fan of such systems).

Yeah, that's about it. Getting 3 friend together and playing bad guys is definitely fun enough that you'll be able to overlook the games flaws and have a blast stealing stuff. It is a game where the them does a lot for it.

It's not for single player so you either need a group of friends or be fine playing with strangers (though it's at it's best if you do have some friends to play with).

Yeah, this was my impression as well.

Not enough events or intrigues.

I played a vanilla game of CK2 as a Croatian Duke and there was a ton more stuff going on.

There were a few rebellions and wars in my GoT game, but they were also crushed very quickly and with overwhelming force.

I also wasn't sure why Margery Tyrell would be willing to marry a son of Yohn Royce (or a Manderley for that matter). I also had Tywin Lannister ask to marry one of my daughters and married another daughter to the heir to the Iron Throne. I think she died before her husband claimed it.

I totally love the setting. Just not enough going on and some odd unions.

Odd unions is a Paradox AI thing.

We're working to add more stuff going on, without it being monotonous, but I'll push your impressions up the chain and keep agitating for more things. There's a team working on a War of the 5 Kings starting date, my impression is that that may have more some more stuff going on (which will then be incorporated down into the other starting dates obviously).

I also find the "little rebellions" kind of silly, but they do serve the function of raising/lowering the opinion of liege's by vassals, which ultimately results in bigger conflicts.

We've got tournaments in obviously (tbh sometimes I find them a bit repetitive). Any other thoughts on what sort of events you'd like to see?

I find that RP-ing my leader based on his personality can be helpful in terms of causing things to go on, and causing friction with vassals or lieges. So can giving myself goals outside of the ambition system like "I want to make the Dayne's the Princes of Dorne" and working towards a long-term goal like that.

Botanicula review (http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/04/19/wot-i-think-botanicula/) and demo (http://botanicula.net/)

There’s no question over whether you should play this. Your $10 will buy you a few hours of utter joy, and flipping heck, why wouldn’t you want that? It’s infectiously lovely, smartly inventive, and plastered happiness all over my face. And even my game-ignoring wife’s face, whom it was a pleasure to watch play. That’s a high compliment.

Splice has a demo on Steam that I played, it was an interesting puzzle game but nothing that really excited me that much.

Universe Sandbox isn't a game but just a sandbox solar system simulator that let's you make changes like adding objects or modifying location, mass, velocity and whatnot and see what would happen. You can load different solar systems or create your own from scratch if you want to do that sort of thing. Probably interesting for people who really love astronomy and astrophysics. If you're not you'll probably think it's kind of cool while you play around with it for 10 to 15 minutes before you exit out never to load it up again.

Hey guys is Rage worth 17.99? I've always been tempted.

I like Rage, but it wasn't really anything special as far as first person shooters go. It'd also been available cheaper than that before, so if you're willing to wait for either later in this sale or for another deal to pop up after the summer sale you could probably find it for a bit less.

A couple good deals on shooters that activate on Steam are The Darkness 2 (http://www.amazon.com/2K-Games-40884Darkness-II2-Darkness/dp/B006JA7EWW/) for $12.49 and Spec Ops: The Line (http://www.amazon.com/Spec-Ops-The-Line-Download/dp/B0085NTITS/) for $24.99.

Spec Ops: The Line is a modern military shooter which when I first heard about it kind of wrote off as just another man shooter. As far as gameplay is concerned it's a third person shooter with poor cover mechanics, but the story is exceptional and makes it one of the best games to come out this year. If it's something you want to play anytime soon you probably won't find a better price than $24.99 being it came out three weeks ago.

I like the tourneys. As for other events, I would have to think about that.

Also, I noticed that the inheritence law for the Royce's (and many others I presume) was gavelkind, where, I am pretty sure, for most noble families in Westeros (save Dorne) it's straight up primogeniture.

For example, Yohn Royce has three sons. Andar, the eldest is set to inherit Runestone. Robar, the second eldest, joins up with Renly to make a name for himself and Waymar, the youngest, joins the Night's Watch.

Should stay away from Steam during sales. I picked up the "Theater of War" bundle for $12.49 in the Flash Sale. No idea when I'll have to play:) Oh, well flash deal ended and now back to $24.99 regular price $49.99.

Theater of War
Theater of War 2 Battle for Caen
Theater of War 2 Africa 1943
Theater of War 2 Centauro
Theater of War 2 Kursk 1943
Theater of War 3 Korea

Not sure if I'll have to contact Steam or if its a "getting hammered" issue but Caen, and Centauro haven't shown up in my library.

Caen and Centauro are DLC so they won't show up on your games list. You can check to see that they're there by right clicking on Theater of War 2 and viewing the DLC you have for it.

Very cool game, its all Multiplayer. You and a group of guys try and kill hordes of creatures. You go through i think 5 rounds, upgrading weapons along the way and then you have to face the boss at the end who is really hard, i've only beat him a couple times. But it takes a lot of team work. I'd get it if you enjoy online coop or horror games.

Thanks for the link, I just bought the game today and some of these look pretty cool.

Anyone wanting to replace the Thunder with the Sonics in association mode, you'll need to use the unlocked settings mod (or earn the 96-97 Sonics the hard way) and then use them to replace the Thunder. Before you do, you should replace the Thunder roster with scrubs, put their entire team into FA and then you can clear out your Sonics roster however you choose, pick up those FAs and can play with them should you choose to.

Just figured I'd save possibly someone a bit of time.

Back when 2K12 was released someone created a spreadsheet for the purpose of having an "expansion draft" to fit the Sonics back in. Basically the guy went through and selected 8 or 9 guys that each team would realistically hold on to, the rest you could draft for your Sonics squad. I played through a few seasons myself, was lots of fun.

Walking Dead Question: How often does the game go into first person mode for any kind of movement/action?

I get pretty bad motion sickness with some games, I can't play any first person shooters, ever. The opening of Skyrim is in first person and should take what, 20 minutes? I had to leave it and come back to it for ~2 hours to get past that intro to when it would let me go into 3rd person. Even games like Grand Theft Auto will fuck me up if I don't take ginger capsules (if I do I can play GTA forever). The video review on IGN doesn't really make it clear but seems to show a scene here or there with some first person action.

Any guesses on whether I'll be able to get through this game?

Age of Empires III complete for $10?
EUIII Complete for $9?

I loved AOE2, though I was the resource and tech guy in any successful multiplayer alliance (left the fighting to the other guys as much as possible). I love creating my own "win conditions" (taking on BSR teams in FM, etc.), which makes EUIII seem appealing for all those tiny principalities. Also know jack about the two extra expansions (Heir to the Throne and Divine Wind) in the costlier EUIII package.

Any suggestions?

In other news, none of my games will sync with the Steam Cloud, rendering them useless to play at the moment. Is Steam that busy?

One of their central data servers went down which lead to problems playing Dota 2, so it may have hit Steam Cloud service too. You should still be able to play though, Steam Cloud for most game saves both on your PC and online so you have your save locally. The service also checks to see if your local save is more recent than the cloud save and if that is the case it shouldn't replace your local save without asking if you want to. Unless of course you're continuing a game from a different PC than you were last time.

Steam Cloud seems to be working for me, so hopefully it's back up for you or will be soon.

The nice thing about Steam sales is I get to look at my wishlist, see games listed for $1.99, still feel no urge to buy them, and thus I went and did a near clean purge. I go and add a couple in.

I'm in for about $50 this year, which is pretty good, I think.

Nothing I was tremendously excited about, but some games I wanted to give a shot at a steep discount.

Having said that, I picked up Saints Row 3. I'm not really into the whole GTA/be-a-gangsta gaming thing, but I've had entirely too much fun ignoring the script, firing up a bunch of cheats and just killing shit/blowing shit up. I might not ever actually play the game itself (apparently, there's a plot or something), but as a $10 stress ball, it seems like money well-spent at this point.

I did the same thing with one of the GTA games a few years ago (one set in Miami, if I remember correctly)...and that was sort of a hoot, but SR3 is just so much more over-the-top, it's like they're begging you to use the cheat menu and find creative ways to just kill things.

Saw it yesterday, was tempted, then told myself I had spent enough. Then woke up this morning, still telling myself it was enough. Went to work and decided the whole Ultimate version was quite a good deal and bought it with the Steam app on my iPhone... sigh :)

All in all, after spending no more than maybe 10 bucks on each of the last 2 or 3 Steam sales, I'm up to $100 so far for about $340 of stuff at regular price.

Giggled like a little kid when playing Tropico 4. I know I'll have these little moments for a little while as I get accustomed to all the new games I just added to my library: Tropico 4, Skyrim, Civ 5, Assassin's Creed (first one), Dragon Age, Recettear, L4D2, Shogun 2, Witcher 1, FM2012...

I've had this game for years. If you like the Civ franchise, you'll enjoy GalCiv. It's a little dated these days, but still great.
