Nope. Havn't ever checked it out, but I understand it simplifies things and makes for a faster, less detail-oriented game.

My stash so far:
Orcs Must Die: Franchise Pack ($8.72)
FM13 (was going to buy FM14 in the fall as part of my every other year thing, but $10 is hard to pass up)
Deus Ex Collection ($5.99)
Kerbal Space Program ($13.49)
Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 Platinum ($4.99)
Lots of gaming goodness for around $43.

There were just a couple mods I used when I played, most important being a party chest at the campsite. It is a game that controls much better with a mouse and keyboard than gamepad if you're debating which system to get it on.

I think that's one of the barriers I am facing. I strongly prefer turn-based as well. Maybe I'll fire up Gal Civ II sometime.

Yes! Join the Nexus Community. There's something like twice the game with mods. It's not quite as broad as the Skyrim Nexus community. But there's a lot there.

New Classes
New Quests
New Spells

To be fair if you click through to the metacritic reviews you see that that 92 is just for one of the expansions in the pack - not sure what the whole game is rated - just a quibble.

Took the plunge on Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes for $13 as it looks like something I would like. Also got Company of Heroes for 50% off. The question is they just put the original Fallen Enchantress on sale for 75% off ($7.49) - is it worth getting for that price or just stick with the expansion? I checked and I don't think you need the original to play FE: Legendary Heroes.

I did see skyrim on the flash sale for the legendary edition.
I'm holding out hope that the standard will go for less than the $20 it is listed at now. I couldn't see pulling the trigger on the legendary edition for $31, when the standard goes for $29 every day.
I'll probably end up dropping the $20 on the final day of the sale, but I'm willing to hold out.

I think XCom is a better game overall. It's really quite excellent.
That said, at least for me, it lacks much in the way of re-playability. I played through it, really enjoyed it, beat it and then moved on.
I think Fallen Enchantress has much more re-playability, because it's more of a Civ type game and really allows for vast customization. So, if you end up liking it, you may get a little more bang for your buck.

After reading a bit about, I get the feeling it's pretty bad... Still, can it be that bad that even getting it for $3.74 is not worth it?

Hadn't seen this until now, but everything I've seen about it has it being a terrible game. On Metacritic is has a 20 with a 1.5 user score (http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/infestation-survivor-stories), and if you want to see for yourself...

It was likely quickly made with the title The War Z so people would confuse it with DayZ, though the name change came after the trademark for the name was denied after being too close to World War Z.

I think XCom is a better game overall. It's really quite excellent.
That said, at least for me, it lacks much in the way of re-playability. I played through it, really enjoyed it, beat it and then moved on.
The issue with X-Com right now is the teleporting aliens issue. I had one game destroyed by this (battleship capture-the-overlord mission) where I was eking it out, then an alien teleported into the middle of a group and destroyed what chance I had left, and another one ruined when aliens appeared in a cleared area (played the "wake-up" cutscene with them gutting a body everything).
The thing to remember is XCom is not a tactical combat game, it's a chess game. Trying to use flanking tactics will just wake enemies up and make it near impossible to win, you have to advance, destroy the aliens you wake up, then advance more. As a chess game, it's pretty fun, once you figure out it's a chess game and play it that way rather than trying to use "good tactics". The problem is, every now and then the aliens get to violate all the rules through the teleport bug, and it's no fun playing chess against someone who cheats.
This issue actually got worse for me (I didn't have the bad cases until the latest patch), and I've put the game away until they release a patch that fixes it. To me it's a game-killing bug, which is disappointing because the rest is so very well done. One little thing just kills it for me.

Where did you find the WTF podcast?
I was just listening to itunes while playing. There is some kind of integrated radio stuff but I'm not terribly interested in that.
I'd also like to hear some more of your impressions of the game (or anyone else's for that matter).
So far all I've done are some "quick jobs" which involve driving from city to city for someone else to earn cash. The reviews I've read make it sound like the business side of things once you can start to buy your own trucks is well done, but I'm still a ways from getting to that I think.
I go through phases where I like to listen to a lot of podcasts, and I watch a ton of league of legends matches, but if teams I'm not quite as interested in are playing I like having something light and somewhat mindless to do. This game seems like it will fill that need for a little while at least. Perhaps once I get further into it I'll find there's more there, but for now that's where it sits for me.

I played through the entire game and never really ran across this issue. Maybe I finished it before the latest patch came up and made it worse. I heard about this happening a few times here and there, but nothing systemic or game breaking. Then again, not sure when the latest patch was released.
That said, I do agree that the game does "punish" you in a way for trying to flank enemies or advance quickly because it "pops" a set of aliens on you.

It's probably the most fun I've had with a co-op game. Still alright but not nearly as good on its own. Fairly unique in that it can actually get harder the more people you are playing with.

I wish I could. There were two Civ IV's in my inventory. I thought, "I'll just add one to my library and I'll still have one to give away." When I added it, they both went to my library. The second one says "not available on your current platform." I think maybe it was one PC and one Mac. Sorry to yank your chain. Yeah, it's one PC and one Mac.
You get both if you buy Civ V too, it just doesn't show up as different entries in your library.
If a game says SteamPlay above it's Add to Cart button on its store page and has the Windows, Mac or Linux logos you can play it on any of those operating systems if you purchase it. Nearly every game that is available on multiple operating systems is like this. There are a few exceptions that I think are almost all games with different publishers on Mac and PC like the original Borderlands.

It's good with an Xbox controller as well. I play it that way. It's probably one of my most played games of 2013 on Steam, haha. Then I realized how much I hate driving 2 hours each day to/from work and I stopped playing it. It is pretty relaxing though. Seems like that's what I enjoy in gaming, as I usually only get to play later at night and I'm usually pretty exhausted already. It's my wind down time.

it has a variety of bugs of various states. Due to atari's bankruptcy, there are legal questions surrounding the game. The devs pulled it from all of their sale outlets and cannot release any patches. Atari, because they need the money badly, choose to leave it on Steam, where only they make money from the sale, and the dev gets none. That's the short story.

I grabbed it when it was half of earlier in the sale. Love the mechanics of the swapper device and it has some really challenging and excellently designed puzzles. The story is about what you would expect given the nature of the swapper device you use and it takes around four and a half hours to complete. Definitely recommend it to a fan of puzzle games.

Right now you don't have a video card but are using the integrated graphics on your CPU. You'll need a free PCI express port which likely won't be an issue, but the stumbling block you may run into is power supply. Even the lowest end of Tom's Hardware's Best Entry Level Graphics For the Money (http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-2.html) requires a 400W PSU. If you need an upgrade a new PSU might run at least $50 or so. You could run into some trouble there as some manufacturers use proprietary designs for PSU where a standard model may not easily fit in the case, though I have no idea if Acer does this.

I am pretty much finding myself in the same boat. I have a Dell box with an i5 processor, but it's still running on the integrated graphics card which I'm now finding inadequete to play games like Just Cause 2 and I think can't run Sleeping Dogs (I'm getting the dreaded HKShip.exe error which I think it's doing because I don't have a video card to handle it). I'm not really needing to get the super duper top of the line since I don't buy games on day one, but usually months or years after release during Steam sales. I was looking at getting something like this (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008Y8PON8/ref=s9_simh_gw_p147_d1_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-3&pf_rd_r=16NQ635C00DVPYGA4207&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938811&pf_rd_i=507846) as a starting point. Really enjoying the Prison Architect game. It feels a lot like Classic SimCity in how you build things, but it's pretty intuitive. Needless to say, that didn't end well. Back to the drawing board.

It's actually pretty good at this point. I've played through a few times. Seen a couple things that were a bit odd, but nothing that hinders the game much. I don't have any doubt that I will sink a chunk of time into it. It's a fun concept and designed pretty well.
I will say that the opening introduction to the game was pretty intense. Was a bit surprised, pleasantly so without giving anything away. Hope they continue to develop the story aspect of the game.

Going to end up missing the Expeditions: Conquistador 50% off deal too as the encore day ends tomorrow morning and I won't be back on a secured network until tomorrow night.
Oh well.
Why not just have someone buy it for you and just paypal them the $ for it?

Weird, can't find that Expedition: Conquistadors game in steam, googled it, clicked on the steam url and it said it's not available in my region... wtf? i thought the only difference in steam regions was the currency, not the games released.

Yeah, that's why I think it includes "worth" instead of "spend".
I could probably go back and look at all of my Paypal payments to Valve (I think I've pretty much always used Paypal) and that would give me a good sense of how much I've spent on Steam.

Like Pilotman, most of my gaming isn't on steam. I've probably got 2500 legitimate hours into league of legends (which has nothing at all to do with steam, was just curious once we started talking hours played)

A couple of games I play offline, X3 Terran Conflict, and X3 Albion Prelude, as I've modded the games and don't want to have Steam overwrite the Mods.
X3TC I bought a long time ago, but in order to purchase Albion Prelude, I had to register it with Steam, so that saved me from having to download the base game, as it just downloaded the X3AP portion I was missing.

OTOH, it says 'free or no price' for games quite a few games in my list, and it's weird. Some were gifts or are just otherwise free-to-play, but some games I know were gifted to me, like FM13, are showing up with a price (whereas FM12, which I bought, it showing up as 'free or no price). Some other games I know I bought, like Civ IV + expansions, are showing up 'free or no price.' And the Civ IV bundle I actually acquired during a sale so I wouldn't have to fuck with my hard copy any longer.
Then there's the fact that, yeah, I didn't pay near full price for many of these.

It's going off the current store price for anything in your library so FM12 isn't going to show up with a price because it is no longer for sale in the Steam store. Civ IV probably has another entry on your list that shows a price while there's a duplicate entry without one due to how it handles PC and Mac version for that game.

What's interesting about my stats is that it doesn't record my CK1 hours (was all Pre-Steam) and I haven't played CK2 nearly as much. But despite that, the top 5 games are as follows in terms of playtime:
1. Crusader Kings 2: 348.8 hours

3. Tropico 3: 17.7 hours
4. Simcity 4: 12.9 hours

Dust is pretty fantastic. Got through the intro, chapter one and part of chapter two so far. It's like Metroidvania meets Mega Man, with witty dialogue and beautiful graphics. Gameplay is good, albeit hectic - I find myself mashing buttons more than I'd like because the combo system is pretty tight so you have to hit the buttons quite rapidly.
The story uses the amnesia trope, but it's been fairly interesting thus far despite that. Stylistically it's very anime-like, with the characters all being anthropomorphized animals.
So far, it's excellent, enjoying myself immensely.

Eurogamer with one of the first review for Shadowrun Returns, giving it an 8/10 (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-07-25-shadowrun-returns-review)
For those who just want to relive the isometric action of the SNES and Megadrive days, Shadowrun Returns easily delivers. It's not the deepest or most flexible game of its type, but there's a lot to be said for simple ideas realised intuitively. Add in some excellent writing and, judged purely as a standalone game, it's an unambiguous success.
There's more to Shadowrun Returns though. Much more. And it won't be until the community gets its hands on the editor, starts remixing the current material and generating its own, that the game will really begin to blossom. When it does, the patience of the hardcore will be well rewarded.

<i>It's probably what you were hoping for if you were are into Shadowrun. I think this is the kind of thing that you were praying for.
It feels old in a good way. Very reminiscent of RPGs of old.
The fact that it doesn't have voice acting is a strength of it...It forces you to read and the writing is good<i>

I suppose it will depend on how well the game does, but are there plans to expand beyond Seattle and Berlin? I know what drew my attention about the original RPG though I didn't play it much was sourcebooks like the Neo-Anarchist's Guide to North America, which gave a whole bunch of information about places across the continent and how they'd been affected by the changed world of the Shadowrun future.

There's plans for other DLC, not sure what if anything they have planned for other locations.

I've been watching the developer videos on Prison Architect tonight and I have to say I am highly impressed with the amount of input and feedback the designer and developer are taking in from people playing the alpha.
I'm seriously considering giving them a huge chunk of money for one of the higher support tiers because of these videos alone. If they're willing to put so much work in and are willing to make changes based on suggestions from the people putting down their money to play the game, I'm willing to make an investment to it.
Considering the $100 or $250 option.
I love the idea of getting my face in the game as a prisoner.

I rented it for the SNES and really enjoyed it, but never bought it for whatever reason.

Played a little bit of Shadowrun, definitely like the feel. Combat is very X-Com like (which is good) and the story grabs you right away. Very early impression is this will be a good one

If anyone was wondering about the Citadels game that showed up on Steam the other day...
Totalbiscuit @Totalbiscuit 16h
This Citadels game just came out of nowhere. Looks Russian, it's a gamble
Totalbiscuit @Totalbiscuit 16h
Oh dear lord unit selection is so horribly broken in this game. I've never seen a game do band-boxing so badly
Totalbiscuit @Totalbiscuit 16h
Ahh, this is a game about the Knights of the Round Table, so obviously all the peasants are speaking Russian
Totalbiscuit @Totalbiscuit 16h
Gather 100 of the four different resources. But we won't give you any Stone within about 2000 miles of your home base, enjoy
Totalbiscuit @Totalbiscuit 16h
I am happy to say that attempting to construct a wall causes an 85% drop in framerate
Totalbiscuit @Totalbiscuit 16h
And now it crashed. SAFE TO SAY YOU SHOULD NOT BE BUYING THIS THING RIGHT NOW
Totalbiscuit @Totalbiscuit 16h
My $35.99 died for your sins. I'll give it a more indepth look tomorrow when I summon up the courage

Totalbiscuit @Totalbiscuit 1h
Ok I swear half my workers just vanished in Citadels, nowhere to be seen
Totalbiscuit @Totalbiscuit 1h
OH RIGHT, units have no collosion detection so they infinitely stack up, great
Totalbiscuit @Totalbiscuit 1h
DO NOT BUY CITADELS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Video coming tomorrow showing you exactly why

Spelunky went on the Steam store finally and is $13.49. It's an awesome, ever-changing little platformer that is finally on PC after being, I believe, a PlayStation Online title.

It was previously on 360 with a simpler free version on 360, coming out on PSN later this year. Picked it up and haven't had a chance to play yet, but it definitely should be worth it going off the original on PC (available here (http://spelunkyworld.com/original.html). For the PC version it has a Daily Challenge mode. Papers, Please (free beta available here (http://dukope.com/)) and Guacamelee! (metroidvania game that came out last year on PSN to great reivews) also out today.

It really is... I wondered how he was going to expand the game from the demo/free version (which was fun but very limited) but the story is great and they packed in a ton of additional features

Starts off simple and then ramps up the difficulty, forcing you to make some quick, critical decisions. I had an hour pass without even batting an eye. The game absorbs you into its 16-bit world so effortlessly. You have an important job, but also have to balance your decisions with what's right vs making sure you make enough money to provide for your family. It's just well written and laid out.

What'd be really cool to increase replayability would be some sort of procedurally-generated code for it that would randomize who's coming through your line more.

Tried it on my phone, and gave up when it wouldn't let me save during the initial tutorial part, which I was like 20 minutes into. I deleted it, I don't typically game for stretches like that on my phone.
Maybe the other platforms will allow you to save more often, or it's easier to dedicate time to. The gameplay itself was fine, I just hate it when they don't think through things like the save system.
