My personal favorite XFINITY scam they run is with the modem/router/no data cap plan they sell called Xfi Complete. It’s $25 a month add on, which honestly I don’t know what the going rate for a rental is (no data cap SHOULD be standard but isn’t.)
That isn’t the scam I’m talking about though. That comes if you want to use your own modem instead of doing the Xfi bundle rental ANd want no data cap they charge you $30 a month.

My discounts ran out and the bill went up $50. I called hoping to get on a new discount plan, and the woman said she could keep us on the same plan and drop our prices by more than the increase. We said great, signed up. Shortly got an email that my new phone was on the way. Nothing was ever said about a new phone or a new line. Called and canceled, and the guy said it was canceled and apologized. Then I got an email for my new internwt plan. It was a lower speed, no frills plan. Called again and canceled. Told them we were directly lied to. They claimed they listen back and agreed we were lied to, then canceled the contract.
Meanwhile, we signed up for AT&T fiber that just came to the neighborhood. Almost as cheap as the original, and that is just base price with no discount. While the guy was here he signed me up for AT&T mobile for less the Xfinity as well. Went to call to cancel the plan, it seems my contract was not canceled from the day before, and the phone was still on the way. I went ballistic. They kept apologizing and telling me they could get me a cheaper plan. I told them I would use a carrier pigeon before I ever sign up for their service again.

In Gmail, there's an "unsubscribe" button and you can pretty easily one-click and be done for majority of sites.
Then there are other sites where you have to sign-in to then unsubscribe. Frak that, I just "report spam" on them.

It is kind of annoying when you remember a random person from your past and decide to google their name to see whatever happened to them and it turns out that they share a name with a mildly famous person so you will never be able to find them

The worst part about VRBO ads is their insistence on calling themselves "Verbo" as opposed to V.R.B.O. I get it that V.R.B.O. doesn't really roll off the tongue, but "Verbo" sounds ridiculous.

Having only read the headline about the Ole Miss freshman who supposedly slept with her boyfriend's father months ago and not giving it at second thoughts and then reading the piece in The Athletic and now seeing Pat McAfee and Dave Portnoy trying not to get sued, I am struggling to understand what was the sports angle that led to this being content for Pat McAfee and the guys at Barstool Sports. Yes I do get why it would be content for them. I just assumed that the boyfriend was either Jaxson Dart or someone on the basketball team and how it was some distraction going into the draft or the tournament which is why it was a thing for them. Why choose this "story" over a similar one from whatever today's version of Maury or Jerry Springer show?

Anybody remember Urban Dead? An online web-based zombie game that was a big thing around here and on FOBL back in the day (2006-ish)?
Apparently it came to an end last month, changes in the UK laws left the guy who ran it open to big fines so he closed it down. Only a couple of months short of it's 20 years, not bad for a web game.

My five year old daughter has been completely obsessed with Leprechauns the last two days. On Sunday, we spent two hours looking for Leprechauns, Leprechaun homes, and Leprechaun portals in our backyard. Then she set a Leprechaun trap in our yard, making paper gold coins and trying to lure one in using potatoes - since the internet told us they like potatoes.
So, of course, I had my dog eat the potatoes, took the gold coins, and used green marker to create "Leprechaun footprints" Sunday night. That just threw her into more of a frenzy last night, where she largely replicated her efforts, but added more bells and whistles and this time used pistachios, since the internet told her Leprechauns, also, like nuts.
She was so worked up about Leprechauns that she had trouble going to sleep, so my wife told me we had to shut the whole operation down. So, I had the Leprechaun write her a note thanking her for everything and saying he was going back to his land for a while.
She is convinced the Leprechaun in our backyard is named Jeremy. When she catches the Leprechaun her three wishes are:
1. 1,000 squishmallows
2. To make the Earth a better place for everyone
3. To be able fly

Happy Birthday Will! And yes we are all old!;)
On a semi related note, with youngest getting ready to start his senior year in HS in a few months, shout out to the men and women who having children later in life. I went to a varsity baseball playoff game and it finally dawned on me that four members of my son's team have parents that are 50+ and also have at least one sibling below the age of 5. I was exhausted for those parents.

Thanks for the shout out! I'm 51 and my daughter doesn't turn 6 until July. I got a late start on this for a variety of reasons and it's definitely exhausting, less so now than the very early years, but it's still tough when you combine the fact that both my wife and I are older and are at a time in our careers where we are both quite busy and have pretty demanding roles. We do a good job managing and covering for one another, but it's not always easy, especially when it takes two hours to get our daughter to fall asleep because she's too wound up about Leprechauns.

Yeah, no way here either. Our oldest will be a HS senior next year and our youngest will be a HS freshman next year. That's exhausting enough (we're 51). Of course, I also feel like I'm parenting my parents at this point, so that probably doesn't help.

That is the other side to this. Both my parents and my wife's parents are, at this stage, too old to provide any kind of childcare coverage. Our 13 year old can spend time with them and be fine, but our 5 year old has too much energy and not quite self sufficient enough to be alone with them. Also, my wife spend a ton of time "parenting" her parents. She spends at least one day a week driving and hour each way to be with them and then spends a lot of time at home taking care of their various medical issues. It's a part-time job on top of raising our kids and having our own pretty high-demand jobs.
It's a lot.

Athens doesn't have a Culver's (oddly enough) but the only one I'm ever around -- fairly near to a friend's house -- is so bad that they've stopped going entirely.
Athens DOES, however, have THE worst CFA on the planet. It's like they intentionally break almost every rule we know about CFA. Employees who put no greater effort into anything than finding ways to stand around and do nothing (except talk about their dates and look at their phones) and zero indication of ANY adult leadership whatsoever.

That's a shame about the Culvers. Part of their charm in the Midwest is how nice the employees are and how fully staffed their restaurants are. The only time I had an issue was one time they took a long time because fries weren't ready and they made me a free frozen custard for the troubles without even asking.

I feel like they've probably expanded a little too far out of their base honestly.
I've eaten at ... three (I think) ... in Georgia, all were mediocre at best although none anywhere near as bad as that particular one.
That's kind of a somewhat recurring theme I've found with franchises that expand into new territory here (Whattaburger as a prime example): the employees really don't seem to get what the standard people expect is so there really IS no standard to speak of.
Then again, that's a Georgia issue too. I had a road trip last year that took me through some very rural parts of Alabama as well as into northwest Florida. The worst service I got anywhere over three days traveling was better than what would be high end good luck here.

My town has one of the absolute worst Taco Bell’s I’ve ever been to. The employees all gather at the dumpster to smoke and you can see them taking your order outside while smoking and then running inside. They are also always out of stuff.
One time i went there on lunch and got a combo with some soft tacos in it. They said we are out of hamburger meat and cheese is that ok? I said sure just make them however you need to. I was expecting a different meat on them at the very least but no, they gave me lettuce tacos.

Last time I went to Culver's was just for dessert. Because the car lines are always so packed, we usually just park and I run in. Way quicker, if you're just going for dessert.
Anyway, I ordered and was waiting by the freezer of to-go custard, obviously a to-go order, when a woman brought out 3 desserts on a tray. Naturally, I tried to grab them off the tray but for some reason, she tried to hand me the tray. She spilled the entire thing on me, and I got raspberry sauce on my shirt, jeans and shoes that didn't quite come out in the wash.
Worst fast food experience since I went to a 5 Guys before one of Mack's softball games a few years back and had the Coke Freestyle machine shoot colored syrup all over my pants and shoes when I tried to get a drink.

My mail carrier friend tells me that management has recently implemented a system where 'guaranteed' express mail is showing up at the stations like an hour after the carriers have already left for the day, and they are then explicitly told they can't deliver those letters until the next day (after the 'guaranteed' date has passed).
Doesn't sound like your situation, but should give you an idea of how things are running.

In YouTube a couple of ponzi-scheme scam ads kept popping up, so I decided to report one to Google. The complaint got turned down, so I reported it again. Of course it got turned down again, so I reported it again. I've also tried to dispute the decision, but the link provided in their e-mail goes to a deadlink on the google.co.uk website.
And now, every time I start anything in Youtube, I get force-fed an ad from those a-holes and after every single minute within any video I (try to) watch, I get another 3 minute ad from those imposters. I've cursed out loud a couple of times today, over this annoyance. Now, I wonder how much money have those imposters sent to Google to force-feed their ponzi scheme commercials. Ugh.
Is there a better place to report these scam commercials? How about that: after at least 9 different reports, they (Google) finally let me know they will take action because one of the ads is indeed against their policy. I do wonder when they take action, as I still had to witness the a-hole's latest 3 ads earlier today.

I could have sworn we had a random catch-all world sport thread, but can't find it right now.
Anyway, a 14 year old just hit the second fastest century (100 runs) in Indian Premier League cricket history. In by far the best, richest and most watched 20/20 cricket league in the world. Against the team top of the table right now to boot.
I don't know quite what the exact US sport equivalent would be, but I'd imagine it would be something like a 14 year old Dominican kid walks into the WBC final and goes 5/5 with 4 HR against the US and Chris Sale or something in a winning effort. It's hard to describe just how utterly insane and off the charts what happened is.

That was amazing to watch. To be fair, he's probably closer to 16 than 14 based on his prior interviews, but it's still insane. And his partner at the other wicket is pretty much the heir apparent to the crown of best Indian batter. And somehow their team was in next to last place.

So I started a new office job last week. Wasn't super enthused about returning to the office, but the pay couldn't be turned down.
But theres a woman in the office who smacks and clicks her gum ALL DAY. I don't know how someone hasn't said something by now. They have an open door policy here and I have to listen to my earbuds fairly loud not to hear her. But it honestly gets tiring wearing ear buds all day. How do people make it to adulthood without learning to not smack their gum?
I overhead a coworker talking to someone about their lunch and they said that it contained "chai seeds". I jumped in (I really should have stayed out of it) and said, "Are you talking about chia seeds?" She was adamant that they were "chai seeds" like "chai lattes". I realized that I wasn't going to convince her so I left.

I ordered DoorDash today for my daughter and her friend for a 5:30-5:50 delivery. I got the notice that the food had been picked up a little after 5:30 for a 5:45 or so delivery. The place is pretty close. A little six the food hasn’t arrived. So, I check the app and the driver is miles from my house and heading the wrong way.
So, I text the driver letting them know that they are headed the wrong way and if everything is okay. The guy eventually texts me back that they “had to drop off an Uber person” and then would come with our food.
They ended up delivering the food 40 minutes late. I get folks are trying to hustle and make a buck and things are tough, but that was pretty outrageous. I almost always give 5 star ratings, but couldn’t this time around.

I’d report them to Door Dash. It’s possible for Door Dash to give you multiple orders at once and that is completely reasonable but it’s actualy a contract violation with both Uber and Door Dash to use both apps at the same time.
The actual way to multi app is to log out or go on break with the other app as soon as you accept a delivery with one of them.
It’s also extremely poor customer service.

It's really cheap advertising for the store. The city or state wants store info on the sign to get people to exit, and they don't charge a ton. They do give preference to the closest stores, so there must not be a closer store that is willing to pay for that advertising so that store gets it.

Speaking of such, I've been semi-obsessed with pre-plane crash Lynyrd Skynyrd recently since I saw a live performance of Free Bird on YouTube. Bought Street Survivors in multichannel and it rocks. My favorite single of theirs has to be Gimme Three Steps.
Admittingly, I didn’t really give them the time of day growing up because they were largely symbolized by the Confederate Flag. But they were freaking hippies and it seems like while they loved their southern roots (hence their response to Neil Young), it was the record company that pushed the flag and southern narrative to differentiate them from other American bands.

I hate the traffic lights on my daily commute (which admittedly is only between 10-20 minutes). I could live with them if they were consistent - even consistently bad - but they vary from clear runs where traffic moves freely to cars being backed up for a mile or two and barely moving at crawling speed.
I used to think it was weather-related. I thought it would get worse on rainy days where people drove instead of public transport but it doesn't seem to matter the conditions now. All I can put it down to is the synchronization of the lights getting out of whack.

Agreed! Until it gains consciousness and realizes the most effective way to make traffic flow is to reduce the number of vehicles on the roads and the most effective way to do that is to reduce the number of humans driving those vehicles and then it starts to manipulate our traffic lights to cause as many accidents as possible to injure/kill as many humans as possible and so it begins...

I mean, I would assume they could analyze traffic patterns without cameras - pressure sensors, etc. Something smarter than this scenario:
I'm heading westbound toward a three-way light. Car heading northbound pulls up to the light wanting to take a right, eastbound. Sensor picks this up, immediately cycles east/west light to stop traffic to allow car to turn right...which they already did, as taking a right on red with not a lot of eastbound traffic to hamper them. Meanwhile, I am stopped at the light FOR NO EFFING REASON.
This has happened, oh, dozens of times? Stupidest shit imaginable. You'd think if AI is any good at all it could figure out not to have the light do that.

I think it's kinda ... both?
I know a couple of marriages (well, one + one upcoming) that resulted from Tinder.
I don't quite know the exact phrase I'd use for the users ... something more elegant than "hey, one night or one lifetime, who knows" but that's kind of the gist of what I'm thinking of here.
The users I know - mostly female - kind of seem to approach it with something like "worst case, I get my ego fluffed. I likely get a night out. I probably get laid. All of those are a win, anything more is gravy"

Got a call from the "sheriff's office" about missing jury duty. New people from the ones who tried the scam 7 months ago. I missed the call originally but they left me a message. Before I called them back I took the time to come up with a back story on why I missed jury duty.
I let him go through his sell and then explained that I was told by judge something or other that I wasn't currently allowed to serve on a jury while I was out on bail and awaiting trial for a bullshit sexual assault case. I told him all about it and went into great detail and gave him an attorneys name and number to call.
I guess they really stick to the scripts these days because he just ignored it and went right back to whatever he was scripted to say. The I thanked him for his time and asked if he could mark my name off their list so I don't get called again in 6 months and then just hung up.

Mack got a bit more information from some friends. Sounds like a confluence of events. The anniversary of her brother's death was big, as was the fact that she recently lost her job working nights at UPS in Louisville where she was a full-time college student for sleeping on the job. Likely because she was trying to support herself through school and was not getting enough sleep.
Apparently there's some bridge in Louisville where she would go to run when she wanted to get away from the world, and everyone knew to leave her alone when she went out there. She had told her mom things weren't going well, and when her mom didn't hear from her for hours last night, she drove out there this morning and apparently the police had been called and were already there. They found her parked on the bridge dead from a suspected OD in the car.
My wife took various pics of Mack playing ball during games, and Mack apparently was going through pics and found one that was of her and this girl on the court during a game and texted thank you to my wife for taking it.
Sad shit.

Also the concept that self-checkout means no workers are needed and everything works seamlessly is about as far fetched as you can imagine, so there's probably a staffing piece as well.
I'd guess there's a 75% hit rate at best that somebody using a self-checkout manages to actually self-checkout at the places with the most intelligent clientele, and Walmart sure as hell isn't that.

There was some major grocery chain that said they were going to scale back on self-checkout because a combination of a) theft and b) needing more staffing to deal with its problems than originally anticipated, resulted in considerably less costs saved than originally anticipated.

I’d say we have maybe like a 15% success rate with the self checkout kiosks at our Kroger’s because the self bagging anlmost always triggers. There is usually one high school or college kid maintaining 12-16 areas and they never check a thing. Just swipe a card and don’t talk to us.

I hadn't had McDonald's in ages (even though I live about three doors from one). I was coming home one night and felt like a strawberry shake so I decided to drive home and walk to get it rather than going through the drive-thru. After ordering at the kiosk, I patiently (and foolishly) waited about 20 minutes before asking at the counter for my shake. They prioritized the drive-thru orders and seemingly ignored the in-store customers. I don't know how their computer system works but how could an order just disappear.

I couldn't stay up past the 7th last night. I was happy to see UF embarrassed and go 2 & Q, though.
Speaking of playing with/against girls on certain teams, bonkers that Canady played for a while with the Louisville Sluggers against whom Mack played some lower level travel ball (and in HS against several of them). There's a Lexington area girl committed to UGA she played against when the girl was in like 8th grade. And our current HS SS, a sophomore, was already a great player in 7th grade Mack's senior year. I have no clue what her travel ball or recruiting situation is, but I'd be shocked if she didn't end up playing D1.

I will continue to blame Panera for the fast food price hikes. Before Panera was a thing, you could easily get combo meals at most fast food places for $6-8, tops. Now a $25 gift card will barely cover lunch for 2.

Tho it's not really that out of whack. I mean, I'm surrounded by $8-$10 fancy breakfast biscuit places that are the busiest joints in town. (And that's before any side, drink, anything else)

Sorry to hear that, GD. Unsolicited advice from having worked with PE firms for years: if you're offered a buyout/early retirement, the first cycle is almost always the most generous, as it's usually the only planned one (even if it happens in phases). Being offered a packaged 1 year in means something isn't working and they're looking to shed costs.

I have so many questions:
Why would a betting site offer bets on a track and field race?
Why would someone make a parlay based off an athlete LOSING a race?
Why would someone think it's a good plan to heckle someone in an attempt to lose a race and win your parlay..
And finally, why would you give yourself the nickname of "the track and field bully".. and POST a video of you heckling the athlete, and boasting it helped you hit your parlay..
FanDuel bans bettor for heckling Gabby Thomas at track event - ESPN (https://www.espn.com/espn/betting/story/_/id/45449723/fanduel-bans-bettor-heckling-gabby-thomas-track-event)

Moving this to the random thread, as this is more random than anything political:
In the divorce, do we get to keep all the white South Africans?
Was just reminded of college; there was a girl in our class who was from South Africa (though I don't really recall her having much of an accent). Blonde named Nicola - quite cute. (Can't remember her last name.) Was playing against her in one of our intramural football games*; I received a kick and was mostly in the clear but she had an angle on me. My first inclination was to stiffarm to the chest -- then I realized that, ah, I probably couldn't do that to a cute blonde girl, so I pulled back my arm and she ended up getting my flag. I think she did rip a nail in the process though.
(Man, what was her name??)
* teams were coed, though not many women participated, was kind of odd that she did

TV went out. Went and bought a new one. Mounted it after testing it and it went out on day 2. They really don’t make TVs like they used to anymore. Two of the last three I’ve purchased have either been dead out of the box or dead on day 2. The other one lasted 8 years(the one DOA out of the box was purchased just a few days before this one) but considering I have other flat screens in the house that are 15 and 12 years old I guess I’m just not impressed with the new crop of TVs.
Maybe brand has something to do with it. 15 year old TV is a LG. 12 year old is Samsung. Dead out of the box was a RCA. Dead day 2 and the one that lasted 8 years were both Vizios.

I think all the big premium electronics brands have taken the Apple approach recently, which is build brand loyalty based on actual or perceived awesomeness, and then build planned physical obsolescence into everything. New sales will outweigh the any negative sentiment and there aren’t that many players in the space anyway.
Maybe that sounds like a crazy tin foil hat theory, but having owned multiple LG, Sony and Samsung TVs in the last 10-15 years they sure do seem to have some critical function die easily some point after all the warranties expire.

Well yeah, it seems pretty likely he was killed by another cop inside the house (even if semi unintentionally from a fight where he hit his head while falling) and they knew the whole time. How many times do the cops investigate a dead body on someone's lawn and never talk to to the homeowners unless you did over the phone? If the police and EMT's are outside your house for hours because someone you invited to a party was dead on the lawn why wouldn't you ever come outside to talk to them unless you know what happened? Definitely unbelievable it got to a 2nd trial though, you've even got jurors from the first one saying they rendered a Not Guilty verdict and the Judge just didn't allow it just like she won't allow in the fact that ARCCA was hired by the FBI not the defense, and now the DA is attacking the credibility of the (neighboring) state pathologist he's used as an expert witness on the same topic, I can't even imagine how many other cases that is opening up grounds for appeal on. The prosecution's star expert witness after 2 years they could have found someone better was lying about having a college degree on the stand and his own company marked him on their website as Not For Expert Testimony as he was in the middle of it, I'm not expecting the actual cops to go down for manslaughter or the cover up but this is a complete clown show and waste of taxpayer dollars.

The State isn't even calling their crash expert for rebuttal because it seems they never told him that there were X-rays of the decedent's arms showing there were no fractures. The case was flimsy to begin with and it has totally fallen apart.
My theory is that the decedent went into the garage by accident. The garage door is next to the side door and he just got mixed up. The dog jumped on him and he fell back and hit his head. The problem with that theory is that it seems strange that there would be a cover up in that situation. Maybe there was a fight that caused the dog to jump on him.

What are the sport specific equivalents to the feeling a fan gets when your team brings a relief pitcher into a game where his team has muti run lead. The pitcher walks the bases loaded and then gets hooked from the game?
The only thing I can thing of is a soccer player getting subbed in with a similar lead, scoring an own goal and then getting a red card.

Anyways O'Keefe came into the Alberts house after they were all drinking at the townie Waterfall bar and Read dropped him off, got sucker punched or just punched, fell backwards and hit his head, at some point Chloe the dog also bit his arm during that struggle, they dragged the body outside and initially planned to blame it on the tow truck driver Lucky until they realized Read was blackout drunk when she dropped him off (and I think she probably did say oh my god I hit him that morning thinking she may have hit him the night before, but none of the science backs up him lying in the snow dying of hypothermia), expecting she'd plead guilty to involuntary manslaughter or commit suicide quickly enough.
The dog has been "rehomed to a nice farm in upstate Vermont", the basement had a new cement foundation poured before it was sold, the State Police's lead investigator from the first one Michael Proctor had blatant conflicts of interest due to his relationship with the Alberts and has been fired with cause for his actions in the case and wasn't called in this trial (wasn't allowed to be called?), the DOJ and FBI confirmed they had an open investigation into this and the Norfolk County DA office (the jury is not allowed to know that this trial), the Alberts kids have rented a beach home from "Aunt Bev" who is the presiding Judge in both trials and the brother of the officer is the head Town Selectman (basically the Mayor), the police officer from another neighboring town who watched her vehicle get towed has testified the tail light was not broken then and the dispatcher who testified initially the officers involved and the town police captain were in the garage with the vehicle for a very long time has been promoted and given massive raises with the Boston PD since then, members of the initial jury have said they found her Not Guilty of Murder (but were hung on Manslaughter) before Aunt Bev declared a mistrial on all charges in the first one, everyone involved on the Albert side has consistently lied and withheld information about texts and phone calls with multiple police officers destroying their phones by throwing them in separate places of a decommissioned Air Force base the day before they received a subpoena ordering them to hand them over, and all this happened before the first trial was even over and doesn't get into all the blatant lying and incredibly bad science happening from the Prosecution's side as the corrupt Judge rules in their favor for every motion and continues allowing them to withhold material evidence from the jurors. I want to go back and watch the first part of the prosecution's case this weekend since I came after the first couple witnesses. Some of the most damning witnesses haven't even been allowed to be called (or weren't in Proctor's case). The state has literally not called the lead detective in the case, they have not attacked the expertise of a state medical examiner this exact DA has used in other cases, they have gone and paid hundreds of thousands to unqualified "experts" who did not perform the accident reconstruction tests they said they did because nobody in the state's own accident reconstruction team would touch any of this, they have gotten the judge to ban mention of names of family members who were in the house that night and have evidence of injuries on their knuckles from that night. You've got federal investigations into it and most of this stuff only came out in the Tuohy stuff the prosecution tried to suppress, even the fact that ARCCA who is testifying in the defense's favor was hired by the FBI and the US Attorney's Office is not being allowed in at trial, truth is not the goal. But honestly I get why the officers at that house or in the immediate aftermath tried to cover it up and thought they could, I don't know why the state and feds have continued to allow this to happen into a 2nd trial wasting millions of dollars now.

I've been following the Karen Read trial a bit too.
I don't think the prosecutors ever adequately explain the John's injuries on his arm. I don't see how that could be caused by a tail light.
On the other hand if it were caused by a dog, then shouldn't there have been some doggy DNA or something in the wounds?
I have no idea what happened and I wouldn't vote to convict.
Another point is that didn't an officer or two get rid of information on their phones despite being court ordered not to? Shouldn't these guys get charged with something or be in contempt of court?

My best friend in my town is a smoking hot single mom. Her and my wife are also really close and our daughters as well. Her and I go to the gym, walks, have started playing pickle ball and of course we are part of the same group of friends. My wife has zero issues with this
Other than a few off color jokes nothing even remotely sexual has ever passed between us (despite what I am sure some people think). I love my wife and would never be unfaithful to her.
My friend mentioned she is going to try a place called The Stretch Lab, which is just what it sounds like, and asked if I wanted to go.
This feels a bit too close to a couples massage to me and I declined. Thoughts?

When we let our lab onto our bed, he stretches and takes up all the space.

Nothing off about it per se, my friend adores my wife and would never, ever try anything. There has been plenty of opportunity for that over the years where lots of booze has been involved. It just feels a bridges too far for friends of the opposite sex to do together.

There's one in my town, and it looks more like an Orange Theory fitness place than a couples massage place. To me, it would be akin to going to a group yoga or pilates class.

My very friendly Chinese neighbors decided to one-up me and get one of the newly redesigned more rugged-looking Honda Passports. Thing looks fucking sweet. Makes my ‘24 look like a Subaru.
The response is I buy a set of new tires (needed to replace OEMs anyways) and a new set of alloy wheels dubbed Warlord. That’ll fucking show them. But yeah, nice neighbors. Had to back out the mom’s Audi past a workers truck that was in the driveway the other week. Sweet lady.

I thought Warlord would be sufficient, but I like your line of thinking. Perhaps that is the more appropriate level of 'uh uhh no you di'int'. I could turn my current place into an annoyingly cheap VRBO too.

If that lawyer was me, I would have simply stopped, turned around, and found the nearest/highest cliff to walk straight off of.
In fine social media form, that video has sparked comments that seem to align with gender, ranging from "this is a guy losing an argument with a woman naturally going into mansplaining and being condescending to a female without realizing/remembering who he was talking to," to "this guy obviously argues a lot with his wife/GF and simply went into auto-defense without thinking."
I guess because I'm a man, I tend to see this more like the latter circumstance, but I can also see the other side, I guess. My first thought when watching this is that it reminded me of those times in school when a classmate would accidentally call the teacher "mom." Embarrassing, yes, but not necessarily mean-spirited or with any ill will behind it.

Our office is large enough that we have standard rules for e-file storage. Naming conventions, consistent folder structures and the like.
I was in a hearing-prep meeting the other day, and we were trying to find some files on the network, and one of the lawyers said "Oh yeah. I don't understand our filing system, so I just put all my stuff in a folder under my name."
And I was able to glance at our IT person in the meeting quickly enough to see the look of pure hatred and disgust wash across her face before she put her professional mask back on.

I know. The "Men are from Mars and women are from Venus" is a very outdated trope. Honestly, it might not be about our sexes as much as just who we are, BUT....
I get home from work, and I need to decompress. Flip through the internet. Play a mindless game. Turn off my brain from work. I feel so much better after a good 20 minutes to an hour of quiet, and I usually get it as I get home before my wife. When she gets home, though, it is trauma dump time. Everything that went wrong on the day, every stress of the world, every negative thing she can think of cascades out of her mouth at a rate that is crazy heavy. That's fine when I have my decompress time, but days we get home at the same time? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.....

DOLA: Old man problem. The sound on my TV just isn’t loud enough. Any recommendations for affordable sound solutions that will allow me hear the TV? I can hear all the others so I assume a soundbar is maybe all I need?
When I say I can’t hear it I don’t mean can’t hear at all but at 100 I’m still wanting to turn it up. My other TVs in range from listening to at 30-70. Yes I know I can’t hear as well as I used to but it’s not like I need a hearing aide or anything, this thing just literally just isn’t loud at all.

I have moved on from soundbars to dedicated speakers, but Sonos makes a very solid small soundbar called the Beam. Their stuff is a bit premium, but it’s worth it. I might even have a coupon to save tou some money
Edit: Meh, looks like the upgrade coupons are tied to your account

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.....How about the partner to this - getting home after a long shift and the SO's immediate desire for you to tell them about your day? Like if we need to talk instead of just letting me decompress for 20 minutes first we can talk about dinner, or other plans, or watch a show, or even what's bothering you, but it was hot, it was stressful, we killed it, and we'll be back to it again tomorrow or in a couple days and I'd rather enjoy my free time with you until then, ranting about work frustration doesn't help it just reminds me what I couldn't fix or have to fix next time :D

Mackeral and salmon currently. Never been a fan of sardines. Mostly did it because I need something semi-healthy to snack on and this gives me a bit of fish oil. Can put on a cracker with cream cheese or just dump it over a little rice.
Been mostly getting the cheap King Oscar stuff at the grocery store but did splurge on these two brands. Haven't tried them all yet.

A while ago my wife and I attended a pop up dinner at a restaurant that was all about sardines. The two chefs hosting it love sardines and every course involved them in some way. It was a great dinner and since then, we have sardines about once every two weeks or so for dinner.
We mash them up with some lemon juice, garlic and maybe some other stuff? My wife handles that. We soft boil some eggs and make sourdough toast. We spread the mushed up sardines on the toast, smush the egg on top of that and... it's delish! And easy.

For anybody who might have wondered what being the only human in a house is like, I just had a moment that could provide some insight.
To myself I just said "you don't need no damned Oreos, you've got Twist N Shouts at home"
I said that out loud. In my own basement. Not even the cat is down here at the moment, just me.
How squirrely I may be getting, well, my best hope is that squirrely is only a relative term.

Bro, it's almost 17 years since I have been alone in my own home for more than 8 hours. Keep the stories coming.
I have always done alone well. Very well even. I think probably the longest stint that wasn't, erm, uh, related to health issues here was maybe Will's summer overseas study. Wife went across the pond with him at the start of that trip and I was here with just the cats for like 8-9 days IIRC. Purely enjoyable.
But what I believe I'm discovering is that there might be an upper limit to even my skill at it.
Granted, an extremely high maintenance cat in the house is taxing my ability to cope (hell, to survive) very hard lately but damn, that little moment today was pretty stark. Pretty sure I said it aloud simply to hear a voice in the house.
And that was in spite of my bro-in-law being here just a few hours earlier to help with some household maintenance.
