If you'll Google the site(s) that it's hijacking to, more often than not it seems that between a few bulletin board posts around the net you'll find someone who has a step-by-step solution. Just be careful that the "solution" makes sense, occasionally there'll be further viruses linked posing as anti-viral software promising to "fix" the problem. On the whole though, I've had good luck solving those sorts of things with a few searches.
Sends me to a different site every time. It's odd.

I went for a few months with my old XBox 360 having an issue of some sort (wasn't a red ring, but wasn't functioning, either). Finally replaced it but never looked to see that the new one (one of the new black ones) was working 100%, as I'd been playing some downloadables.
Yeah, went to stick a game in the drive today and found that the drive neither opens fully nor closes fully. Awesome.

I was watching some Sopranos recently, started reading about that finale episode, and was surprised to read that David Chase has pretty much confirmed that Tony was killed at the end. (he compared it to the restaurant shooting scene where Silvio was covered with blood before you even heard a gunshot, and also the Tony/Bobby conversation about "things going to black") - it's clear Chase is a little obsessed with what it's like to die in this manner, and the ending was his clumsy expression of that.
Which would be fine if there was anyone left who was a threat to Tony by the end of the series. But I guess that's the point. Sometimes you don't see it coming.

First I've heard of this. Isn't that a complete 180 from his original position following the end of the series?

David Chase reveals the truth behind 'The Sopranos' ending (http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv/2007/10/23/2007-10-23_david_chase_reveals_the_truth_behind_the.html)
David Chase has broken his self-imposed omerta. The creator of "The Sopranos" came clean about the show's ambiguous ending in book published this week.
So were those onion rings Tony's last meal?
Chase says that Tony did not get whacked, as many fans speculated when their screens faded to black following the restaurant scene

As for rumors that the ending was setting up a Sopranos movie? "I don't think about (a movie) much," Chase said. "I never say never. An idea could pop into my head where I would go, 'Wow, that would make a great movie,' but I doubt it.
"I'm not being coy," he added. "If something appeared that really made a good 'Sopranos' movie and you could invest in it and everybody else wanted to do it, I would do it.

It's possible David Chase keeps changing his mind. Below is just one of the interviews I saw (and before that, a youtube video of the Silvio/dinner whacking that he specifically references as well)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ys_4XiNnJ0
R.Belzer: I was working with Steve Schirripa recently, we were judging Last Coming Standing for NBC and we were talking about a lot of things and he was saying he heard all of these theories for the show that had nothing to do with your intention and wasn't anything the actors thought, like little hints along the way, like a word, like when Tony and Steve are on the boat at the lake and they say "you never know it's gonna happen" or "you never know it's gonna hit you."
D.Chase: That was part of the ending.
R.Belzer: Oh, it was? See, what do I know? Were there other things in previous episodes that were hints towards it?
D.Chase: There was that and there was a shooting which Silvio was a witness, well he wasn't a witness, he was eating dinner with a couple of hookers and with some other guy and there was some visual stuff that went on there which sort of amplified Tony's remarks to Bacala about you know "you don't know it's happened" or "you won't know it happened when it hits you". That's about it."
....
So many other clues that Tony was killed - like all three family members eating onion rings in one bite, like a communion wafer, instead of anything resembling how people actually eat onion rings. I was convinced after watching it lately, but now, I'm just back to having no idea.
Took a little work but I finally think I got this beast taken care of. cr0zybaner.com was doing the hijacking and taking me to various sites. I found someone that had a similar issue. Using Hitman Pro, I found out it was a rootkit causing the issue. The person with the similar issue had the same problem as well. She sent me to kasperskys (?) and I downloaded tdsskiller...which took care of it.
Crossing my fingers, but so far so good!
I think the groomsmen and I will be strolling into the sanctuary a few minutes before the start of the wedding ceremony to the "Pink Panther" theme song.
With hat and cane, we'll walk in and I'll greet people as I walk/strut up to the front of the church. By the end of the song, we'll stash our hats and canes behind the organ and continue "business as usual."
There's a good chance our wedding is going to be featured in a local wedding-type magazine.

Just watched Triumph The Insult Comic Dog at the premiere of Star Wars Episode 2: Attack of the Clones from years ago. Still laugh the entire time, including the very end when it cuts back to Conan. The look on his face is priceless.
A tragic shooting yesterday in my "home town" of Bonne Terre MO has left four dead. It's quite likely another victim will be added once the connection is confirmed.
One of my boys went in for surgery Tuesday to relieve swelling in his cheek. Fortunately it wasn't infection, it was lymphatic fluid. Most likely facing another surgery next week or so to try and fix the source of the problem. :(

Having seen a couple of the classic Charlie Brown specials in the last couple of weeks, I've come to a crazy conclusion: Lucy is the literary forerunner to Cartman. She's a total bastard but you couldn't push the envelope in the same way that you could in the 90s.
Oh, and the voice acting (and some of he animation) in a Charlie Brown Christmas is pretty darn bad. The timing is just atrocious and it's pretty rough around the edges. Still, a classic.

I read this before about the Peanuts specials, though I don't know accurate this is:
"The characters were originally voiced in the animated specials by actual kids - young kids who couldn't even read well and so had to learn their lines phonetically and recite them one line at a time, giving their readings a curiously stilted quality. This unique style became part of the Peanuts tradition, and continued even as the voice actors grew older (and were eventually replaced by a new set of kids). "

1. Migraines becoming more of a nuisance. I'm currently taking Magnesium to help ward them off.
2. Had a spa date with the wife, the massage was excellent, I've been dealing with a lot of neck tension, especially when I try to sleep (this with a temperpedic pillow and mattress). Trying hard to eliminate whatever issues are causing the migraines. My sleep habits are to be mourned, I used to sleep hours, and wake up great...now it's just business, get eight but not fully rested, the more I stay in bed, the less rested I feel...
3. Watched Fight Club followed by the Big Lebowski without anyone interupting me, it was bliss.
4. I like the new Kanye album, my wife finds it odd that I like rap, which I really don't, but the difference between Kanye and say Jay-Z, is that I don't think Jay-Z would ever show weakness in his lyrics. I still think Runaway is just an amazing song, and Kanye makes it less about rap and more about music. I'll play this and then kick in Grindman 2, so my music tastes can go all over the place.
5. Work has become a slog. I have vacation time still left but I cannot use it (5 days will carry over next year). I used to love vacation too, I'd always take Thanksgiving week off and do nothing. Now when I take vacation time I have to go somewhere, I love staycations because I could refresh, now I'm always on the go. This I do not like.
6. One of my projects that needs to get done before the end of the year will be delivered on Christmas weekend or New Year's Weekend, I'm assuming it'll be a nightmare if my boss expects installation on those weekends.
7. Currently enjoying Keith Richards "autobiography"

Thanks, I actually did get them check and got new glasses back in May. Truely, I've tried to rule out tons of things. I know red wine has been the cause of certain triggers in me. I believe it may be stress related.
Migraines:
1)I have had my eyes checked
2)Exercise (though lately been slacking)
3)New mattress (Temperpedic)
4)New pillow (again Temperpedic)
5)8 hours sleep minimum
6)Better diet, little or no caffeine near bed, nor sugar
7)Magnesium (the newest contender 500mg)
8)Visiting allergist today (some of the migraines have been more of a sinus related issue in that I get a lot of sinus pressure, that travels underneath the eyes, behind the eyes and then rises up to the temples, and from there I get a terrible headache).
My migraines can be just a dull pulsing, difficultly concentrating, light sensitivity, exhaustion...to the full bore vomiting, sleeping an entire day, no appetite, light sensitivity, need to be drugged to sleep...neck tension has been something new but I'm assuming it's stress related...(lots of stressful things going on in my life lately).

I really minimize what I provide on facebook...solidarity is all well and good but it does very little to solving the actual issue.
I hated, /hated/ back at college where they would spring up "wear blue jeans in support of" a certain lifestyle...now mind you, I wasn't averse to other people's lifestyle choices, but it was to me a very lame attempt. Most college students wear jeans, so we're you really shooting for support or just claiming that because a ton of people were wearing jeans that they supported your cause...
My wife just was chatting about PETA and how she was feeling guilty about eating meat and I stated that it's people like PETA that turn me "conservative", I mean the ultimate goal of PETA is control which is no different than a right winger. She started to spout whatever was in the brochure but I waved it off....food is food. I stated that killing is killing, and while I could support that certain processes were probably not the best (stacking chickens on top of chickens) that that was a corporate structure issue...but ultimate PETA wants to guilt trip me into not eating meat at all which isn't going to happen. Needless to say, we're having brisket tomorrow.

I'll look into the turkey...we rarely have hot dogs. I think the biggest challenge is that I love chicken and would routinely eat chicken and vegetables...my wife hates chicken unless it's coated in some slurry of sauce. I do need to regulate the diet, I'm not fat, hovering around 178 lbs and 5feet7, but it's lean muscle...I have to get back to lifting to get into a better shape.
I think a lot of it anymore is the hour commute, gonna have to move closer to work...there are home and work stresses that probably aggravate...the neck tension/pain is new, been around for the past few months....the massages have helped.

Chen has a daily routine—waking up at 3am, she makes her way to the vegetable wholesaler and sets up her stall, which she tends till seven or eight in the evening. The first to arrive in the dark, damp market and the last to leave, other stall-owners have fondly nicknamed her ‘market manager.’ Chen holds the stall her father left her dearly. Yuan-Jin Vegetables is her everything. Selling at “a bundle for 30 dollars*, three bundles for 50,” Chen earns only marginal profits. Yet, her frugality has allowed her to donate about NT$10 million (nearly Rs1.5 crore) [approx. US$330,000] towards various charitable causes, including helping schools, orphanages and poor children.

Speaking of lame things on facebook and people getting up in arms for no reason, a couple family members have posted this (well, I'll just skip straight to the snopes link):
snopes.com: Hanukkah Hams (http://www.snopes.com/photos/signs/hanukkah.asp)
Basically, the idea is that someone at Walmart put a sign that said "Delicious for Chanukah" in front of a ham. Okay, pretty funny, sure. But since it's Walmart, people are talking about boycotts and how their upper management is stupid. But man:
1. Get off your f'in high horse. It's probably some minimum wage worker who messed it up. Mistakes happen. You're really going to hold an entire company responsible because some moron working behind the deli counter messed up?
2. You're a minority, get used to it. My family likes to make a big deal out of the fact that they're Jewish, IMO they think that makes them special somehow and not just another white middle-class family. Then this happens and they're all, "WTF how can people not realize Jews don't eat pork?" Meanwhile, what they don't know about other religions (for example, Islam) is pretty sad.
3. Except for the vegetarians, no one in my family actually refrains from pork. EDIT: And I'm curious what percent of Jews actually keep kosher. In the strictest sense of kashrut, I'm sure it's extremely low, but I wonder what percent don't eat pork.
4. Turns out, as the snopes link indicates, it's not even from a Walmart in Arizona like the story claims. It's from a grocery store in New York City called Balducci's -- I guess someone figured the story would spread better if it was the evil Walmart behind it all.

I see a small claims court case in my future.
Went with a contractor back in October to do our windows. Signed the contract, paid the 1/3 upfront, was supposed to have the windows order and in their hands in 4 weeks and installation before Thanksgiving.
Hey, guess who doesn't have their windows installed yet? Ya.. this guy.
For the last few weeks it has been nothing, but one thing or another. They are finishing up this job or that job.. should be soon. Oh, we can come over tomorrow. (Nevermind that it is 4:30 PM and I'm not around tomorrow and I'm not comfortable just leaving someone have the run of the house). Now one guy was injured and another guy is sick.
Monday was scheduled.. now Monday might be too cold so they have to push it. Push it to when? I have no idea since their communication skills are for complete shit. Had no concerns this being done by 12/31 for the tax credit stuff.. but now?

We didn't do a HSFB thread this year, but I'm watching an awesome game on GPB Home (http://www.gpb.org/)
Calhoun just tied it at 24 to force OT vs Buford. Buford going for their 4th straight state title, Calhoun has come from 17 down in the 2nd half to get this far.
JonInMiddleGA
12-10-2010, 06:37 PM
Buford wins it 31-24, RB Dominique Swope (considering Aub, UGA, GT) gets a TD (turf toe & all), Wolves defense holds on 3rd & short and 4th & 10.
4th straight title, only the 2nd team in state history to accomplish that feat (West Rome early 80's the other). And btw, most of the key players for Buford this year were juniors so they'll be favored to go for #5 next year.

Gotta love minor league basketball.
Saw the Idaho Stampede tonight. At an early stoppage of play, they had a pepsi max chugging contest. This was a bad idea, and the result was predictable. One of the kids just kind of stopped, and was grabbing his stomach. He puked a little into a towel, and then let loose when they got a bucket out to him. The other kid won by default.
At halftime, there was a 5 foot tall acrobat/tightrope guy - he had a portable tight rope thing where he was only maybe 10-15 feet off the ground, but there was no net or other precautions. He's jumping around on the wire, riding a unicycle, jumping rope, and then - the big finale - a backflip on the tightrope. He missed, crotched himself on the wire, and then just kind of crumpled to the floor. Fortunately, I think he knows how to fall safely, and after a few seconds in a fetal position, he was back up there to try again, and he nailed it.
Antoine Walker was out there for the Stampede, and he looked SLOW.

What are the five "fruits" in generic school lunch fruit cocktail?
(Also, I don't care what if your school decided to "spruce things up" by adding something odd like watermelon. We're talking about what is the standard Del Monte fruit cup that schools imitated.)
Cherries (of course)
Grapes (cut into little pieces)
Peaches (the orange squares)
Pineapple (the yellow squares)
Pears (the white squares)
Both my wife and a friend listed oranges. I knew that was right but I couldn't remember the other thing. My wife and I forgot peaches while my friend forgot pineapple.

I can't freakin take the intrusion of ads everywhere. Here is the latest brainchild:
The marketing world is drawing up plans to invade one of the last bastions of media that is largely advertising-free: books.
As e-books proliferate, advertisers are experimenting with ways to pitch to consumers while they read, a trend that could change the publishing business but faces opposition from some traditionalists.
Marketers are exploring a variety of formats, including sponsorships that give readers free books. Videos, graphics or text with an advertiser's message that appear when a person first starts a book or along the border of the digital pages are also in the works. Ads can be targeted based on the book's content and the demographic and profile information of the reader.

You just spiral the bacon strip down and it adheres to the pretzel rod fairly well. (also works well with the hard style breadsticks). Just need to cook on top of paper towels so the grease soaks into the towels. The pretzel rods will soften a little bit from the bacon grease, but not alot. Of course, assuming you use center cut..

If this (http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/19/wireless-carriers-openly-considering-charging-per-service/) happens, I will absolutely turn in my smartphone and buy just a regular phone with no apps. This is complete bullshit!
That slide above is no joke -- it comes from a marketing webinar put on by two companies that count Verizon, AT&T and Vodafone as clients, and it describes a system that identifies customer internet activity and charges a different rate for using Facebook than watching YouTube, while allowing access to Vodafone services for free. Yes, that's basically the nightmare scenario for net neutrality advocates. The two companies behind the slide are Allot Communications and Openet, which sell subscriber-management tools to carriers around the world -- tools that Allot's director of marketing says can scan even encrypted packets to determine what service customers are using and charge accordingly. We're not making this up -- here's the direct quote from the webinar:
[We use] a number of different methods to accurately identify the application -- methods like heuristic analysis, behavioral and historical analysis, deep packet inspection, and a number of other techniques. What's key is that we have the best application identification available on the market, which means that even applications that are encrypted or use other methods to evade detection will be correctly identified and classified... We essentially feed this real-time information about traffic and application usage into the policy and charging system. Each subscriber has a particular service plan that they sign up for, and they're as generic or as personalized as the operator wants.
Yeah, that's not how anyone actually wants the internet to work -- except carriers, who've been saying increasingly insane things about charging even smartphone manufacturers for customer data usage lately. What's more, it's rumored that the FCC will cave to Verizon and AT&T and exempt wireless internet service from major parts of net neutrality regulation it's expected to pass next week, so this nonsense could very well hit the US sooner rather than later.
Welp, that would end my interest in getting a smartphone immediately. Was thinking of getting a verizon iphone or a droid when my upgrade rolls around in July. Not going to happen if crap like that comes along. No chance.

I did something like that last year and popped a rib or something in my upper back. The pain was so bad, I could barely breathe.
Damn. That is definitely the kind of pain that will take your breath away. How long before if felt like it was somewhat back to normal? The most difficult thing to do right now is get in and out of my car, putting my seat belt on and of course, if I cough or sneeze again, the pain just starts all over from square one.

Yea, I have a Droid right now and I'll be able to upgrade around your time. Even though I swear by my phone, I'd drop it like a bad habit if this shit started.
What would happen if I got my phone in July and this stuff started in August? Would I be forced to pay their rates instantly or would it wait until my new contract two years down the road?

Four in 10 Americans Believe in Strict Creationism
Belief in evolutionary origins of humans slowly rising, however

PRINCETON, NJ -- Four in 10 Americans, slightly fewer today than in years past, believe God created humans in their present form about 10,000 years ago. Thirty-eight percent believe God guided a process by which humans developed over millions of years from less advanced life forms, while 16%, up slightly from years past, believe humans developed over millions of years, without God's involvement

Can't sleep, and it's not for the lack of sugar plums. I have to replace an old Dell desktop computer (Windows 98!) in about 6 hours. Before that, I have to drive an hour to our office. I then have to locate the computer and remove the hard drive and the video card. After that I have an hour drive to the site. Take out their hard drive and ARCNET card from their malfunctioning computer, place them in the computer I brought down. Make sure everything works. Back up the system.
If all goes well, I'm out of there by 9. Back to the office. Drop off the computer. Drive home.
I'm estimating 7 hours of double time pay on top of my 8 hours of holiday pay. I get paid my holiday pay regardless if I work or not. I get double time for the holiday call out from the time I leave the driveway until I return.
That's a bunch of dough.

Speaking of WTF moments, surely the following sorts of moments must occur to some of you here: those moments where you're standing there, in the middle of it, and you realize you're right in some sort of surreal WTF moment.
That happened to me tonight. I'm on my way home from seeing True Grit when I decided to stop in to get a quick bite from one of the fast foods spots that are actually open. I'm inside and ordering my food, when I hear some loud and slurred Spanish to my left. I turn and look and I see this guy who is clearly drunk and probably a bum. What struck me is he appeared to be begging in Spanish, which I had never seen. The target of his request was standing directly behind me, and this guy was a midget (and very plainly white, going with Spanish was probably not the best language choice on the part of the bum).
And that's the moment--seeing a drunk Mexican bum speaking only Spanish hit up a midget for some cash. Weird. And then as if that wasn't enough, when I turned back to the cashier, he gives me wadded up cash for change.

Driving for those couple of hours on Christmas Eve and passing truck drivers along the way reminded me of the sacrifice they give. It made me think (a random thought) that while I had to work that day a whole hour away from home that many of them may not make it home in time for Christmas.
My dad (well, stepdad, but dad to me) drove a truck for 30 years before starting up his own trucking company. He was home nearly every Christmas as I recall, but there were a few close calls. I never realized back then what being home for Christmas meant to him or to others in general.
Anyhow, my mind wandered (to another random thought). My dad started his trucking company after he was "born again" (not a topic I wish to delve in, please just indulge me). As such, we attended church every time the door was open. Mind you, I was about 12 at the time and not entirely interested in this process at all.
At one point, my dad decided to make it worse. He began driving out to a remote truck stop. This truck stop was apparently popular with the truckers but far enough out of Knoxville that there wasn't very much around that exit ramp other than the truck stop.
He would go in, every Sunday, to see if anyone would like to go to church. As I recall most trips were not very successful. To be honest, when they were I didn't realize the guys he brought back were strangers. I thought they probably worked for my dad.
It made me think of how far he went out of his comfort zone to reach out to a brotherhood that he spent 30 years of his life with. Here was a guy that up until a year before I had never seen in a church. A few years later he was out of church again but that sacrifice he gave obviously burned into my memory. Over 20 years ago and I can recall those trips to the truck stop.
I called him and thanked him. That was kind of a big deal for me since I rarely call or see him nowadays. The conversation back and forth nearly did me in. I'm not sure I can or have adequately covered this random thought. I just thought I'd share. That phone call meant a lot to me.

Watching LOTR: Twin Towers on TNT, and something occurred to me again that has occurred to me before.
In Helms Deep, after the orcs breach the outer wall with explosives, Aragorn leads a charge of elves into the breach to hold them off. In this charge, the orcs set up with their spears out in front of them, and one of the elves is shown getting skewered charging onto one of these spears.
Despite myself, this always makes me chuckle abit. I mean, here's this elf warrior, probably milleniae old, has no doubt been through hundreds of battles and thousands of individual moments of immense peril. This is a fighter who not only has all of that experience, but could not be more skilled with a sword or bow or in battle tactics, and has speed and agility that is matched by few. Despite all of that, this elf ends up skewered on an orc spear held simply at length.
Think about that. This immortal being has been through so much, and this is how he dies. I would think he would be lying there, run through and knowing he was dying, and thinking to himself, "By Valar, really? Really? This is how I'm going to die? How embarrassing! I hope everyone else dies then, too, so no one will tell my kin in Rivendell and Lothlorien."

I was kinda wondering what happened to Pumpy as well. Hope he is ok.
A little birdie asked me to check in. I'm fine, thanks. Post #466 in this very thread pretty much explains my absence.

Down to seventh place, less than 50 posts in the last six months, and the vast majority of my 200 posts in the year since my son was born were in the Google Earth game and the NFL Season Prediction game threads.
It's amazing how having a kid can suck up so much of your free time.

Approximately 20% of the posts I read on FOFC piss me off to no end and make me want to leave forever. If that number grows to 35%, I'm gone.
And I am measuring this.
So we reached 35%? Bummer.
Although, man, given the wide variety of relatively innocent and innocuous posts we have here, I am surprised you could find something that pisses you off no end in 35 out of every 100 posts.

After this one he only needs to find 34 more

I didn't think anything angered Pumpy. I always imagined that if he was the Incredible Hulk, he'd be really boring because he'd never change.

It depends. The mustache was the source of all of his power. If he shaved it, then who knows what could happen?!

I didn't think there was any material on Earth that could actually cut his mustache.

If they gave me a banhammer for one day, I'd wipe out the small group of people who are responsible for most of the 35%, but they ain't giving me that kind of power. Oh, well. On the bright side, I had some really good lasagna for dinner one night last week.

See, there's nothing a good lasagna can't beat. ;)
As for the banhammer, maybe Ignore is your friend.
Personally, even though we have never met, I would be sad to see less of you around. You're one of the coolest cats around this joint, IMO. Plus, you love to bowl.

Found a programming bug in assembler code.
I don't know assembler code. No one in our office knows assembler code. The stuff was coded back in 1985 where it has sat chugging along for 25 years.
It is like uncovering an ancient civilization's lost writings.

LOL...They have guys that know it...they are typically found in museums in the caveman exhibit ;)
I jest...my dad and I were talking about programming languages and me ramping back up and how he felt weird working in Microsoft Visual Studio with all he does is write in non oop languages.
I didn't think it was possible to agitate Pumpy.

Perhaps not being negative and actually repairing their food processors will turn that frown upside down.

Everything's cool. Let's get this place freshly stocked up with white women and we're good.

I should add that the women don't necessarily have to be white. I just said that before to be edgy.

So, my wife slices a piece off a brick of cheese for the little one, but doesn't put it back in the fridge. My wife gets busy and comes back and finds half the brick eaten (teeth marks all over).
My wife sees the brick of cheese, looks at the little one and my daughter goes... "TA DAAAA!!" and raises her arms.
She ain't gonna crap for awhile.

This makes the song "Brick House" go through my head, and I'm thankful for that.

Probably having surgery. :D
(actually, that's next week unless the doc finds more damage when I go on Tuesday...)
I was surprised to see myself in the Top 100 by post count (admittedly, I'm just barely in it). I thought I had less free time than that. ;)
By the way, the remastered Pretty Hate Machine is hella good.

UPS sucks sometimes. Was waiting on a package today and they did the whole "unable to deliver". Problem is that I have my packages delivered to a storefront that's open all day. Asked the guys there and they said they didn't see a driver and no note was left. Probably a replacement driver who got lazy and decided that people were "not home" instead of actually delivering them. This seems to happen a lot more than I remember.

So I have been watching this "documentary" on youtube which comes from the angle that the real Paul McCartney died back in 67. I don't believe it and find it full of silly little clues but at the same time it has proper creeped me out. I thought that at 35 I might be more evolved than to let words like decapitate and tricks of audio frighten me, but apparently not.
