I did that after checking that I didn't have it. The Saxons pack is still $9.99 while they complete pack was only about $5.50.

So did I. Then I saw Gamersgate had Saxons for $2.50. I'm not complaining but I wonder if the Gamersgate expansion would work with the Steam game and would it then be recognized by Steam and autoupdated. Anyone know?

If Quentin Tarantino made a side scroller... It's the kind of gruesome fighting kind of action. It is easier with a controller. I still may remap my buttons though. There is a short demo of it around as well.

Yep, Witcher and Lara Croft I missed out on. Witcher is a easy pickup. Still not sure how I feel about the Lara Croft one after playing the demo a little bit. I think using the controller will help and another poster on a different forum said he loved it.

You can back up the game files and burn them to DVD, so you don't need to redownload gigabytes of data. Go to the Steam menu, then select the backup option. Steam automatically splits the files to make sure they fit on a regular dvd.

just wanted to thank you VERY MUCH for this tip. I did not know of this option but just tried and it is ridiculously easy. Backed up a game, uninstalled it and reinstalled it from the disk. The DVD even comes with an autorun with a little menu prompting me to which game I'd want to reinstall. Nice! :)

With all these sales with Steam, I wanted to try new games but was getting stuck with a lack on HD space. Now I can temporarily back up a game without being annoyed that I'd have to redownload it if I ever want to play it. Reinstall of a 2GB game took maybe 5 minutes, sure beats the long download time...

Thanks again!

I even have two copies of the game(XBox, PC), but I'm trying to go disk free so I would only get it at a cheap price. So far everything else looks nice to have, but I ODed on week one so it's going to take something extra to really stand out. Neverwinter Nights 2, Mirror's Edge, and Machinarium would also be easy pick ups if I wasn't so set as is.

Hmmm. I don't have a lot of time lately .. yet I'm snowed in tonight at hotel and find myself tempted by multiple games in the paradox pack. Am I crazy for considering buying the whole pack? There are a lot of games in there I don't own and have always wanted to play like Victoria II, Hearts of Iron 3, Majesty 2, among others. It's either the pack or just one of those games.

Edit: Add Sword of the Stars and a few other games in there that have always interested me, but I've never bought. Hopefully, I find time to play them all because I just bought the Paradox pack.

One other suggestion, for people using windows 7 (and maybe vista), the game has a horrible issue when you go from full screen and alt-tab out. Often it would stop working for me. So I always play in windows mode now to compensate for that.

Greed Corp. Maybe it was due to the tutorial, but this looks to be as basic of a turn based strategy game you can come across with the ability to destroy land as the key standout tactic. I'll hopefully assume that things open up after you get past the initial starter group. Saying that, it still looks interesting enough with about 24 maps to pick from to get a decent bang for buck out of it and that's not even considering it's on sale for $2.50. It would be nice to see the game do well enough that expansion pack type content is added later on. I love some of the ideas they have in the game. They just need more of them. Tomorrow I'll kick the campaign tires and see where it goes.

I'm roughly in the "Play when a new issue comes out for a bit and then go back to other stuff until the next issue comes out" phase, but I haven't really logged in for the newest issue(blames Titan Quest), but it's on my gaming to do list since there are certain characters I like playing a lot and I'm getting the itch again. Freedom is the busiest server, and Virtue is the second biggest and the unofficial RP server, but you don't have to RP. While you can find your crowd on just about any server, to me those two are by far the ideal servers for new players if they want decent teaming options. I'm off today, but I'll log by 9pm, so if you want to do run running around let me know.

I'm a bit annoyed that it's likely to take the full day before Impulse sends me the serial for Academagia. But I did notice while reading the Academagia forums that Year 1 is just the first one. They're planning on releasing up to Year 5 and you can move your character from Year 1 into future years if you want.

someone want to sell me or unsell me on Europa Universalis III?

I'm interested in the responses you get to this...

This is a tricky one for me, though - it's a game I've heard lots of good things about, and is available at a very nice price, but I really don't have the time to play a game like this...

Hmm. Academagia isn't showing up in my past orders, yet I know I ordered it yesterday. When I go to my account, it's sitting in my cart, but I remember seeing the purchased screen.

I'm tempted to say fuck it and just buy it again, because I'm impatient, but I already have the support ticket in to Stardock.

OTOH it's Friday on fucking New Year's Eve and they probably won't get back to me until Monday at the earliest.

I picked it up. I already owned the original version, so I figured $5 for the two expansions was a bargain.

Warning: The tutorials have not been updated for the expansions so there will be problems when you do the military trial. It tells you to move a unit that you don't have. Mine also crashed after every tutorial. I think that is a Win7 64 thing.

FarCry2 is on sale for $4.99 today.

Checking out the little blurb under the game title, it says this.

"You are a gun for hire, trapped in a war-torn African state, stricken with malaria and forced to make deals with corrupt warlords on both sides of the conflict in order to make this country your home."

Wait? Who has malaria?

I must suggest the greatest mod for the first game of the series, STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl, and that is STALKER Complete 2009 1.4.4. (http://artistpavel.blogspot.com/2009/04/stalker-complete-2009.html) Believe me, you would prefer this mod over the vanilla version.

They are currently working on a mod for the 2nd game in the series, but that is projected to be out in 2012.

Having a Game of The Year edition doesn't really have anything to do with game of the year awards. It's just a way to repackage the game with it's DLC and sell it at full retail price again.

So I just finished off Mirror's Edge. I don't understand why it didn't make a larger splash than it did(or maybe I missed it?). I generally hate console type games, in fact this may be the first I've ever really enjoyed since the NES days.

God, I forgot how much I hate the Total War series. Every time one of them is on special on Steam I buy them, wait a couple days for them to download and then remember why I didn't have the previous 6 installed anymore.

Just bland, boring junk. Get money, build big army, win. Battles between nations just feel like a giant mass of men running into each other and then random units running away. Every nation basically plays exactly the same and get the same units at around the same time. I have to admit I do quite like the naval battles in the Empire/Napoleon series, those are quite fun and fresh. But I inevitably end up autoresolving the land battles and rolling over the CPU easily. First time through Napoleon I had mainland France conquered within 20 turns. Meh.

Definite Yay on Plants vs. Zombies. I have it on Xbox and the PC and have played both quite a bit. Fun game when you just want to relax.

I really want to get TW: Napoleon. I enjoy the battles for the most part, but I worry. I never really got into Empire. Barely played Medieval (and I liked it). I love playing the battles, but when it comes to strategy I'd rather play CIV or Europa.

Maybe it'll get down to $9.99 someday.

I am very intrigued by this one, but see a lot of stability issues among folks with Win 7 64-bit that seems to be helped (but not solved?) by installing some Microsoft updates. Anyone else have this that can comment on the stability? I'd buy the whole pack, not just the $2.99 bit, although maybe I'll take the plunge and give it a whirl for $2.99 anyway.

I have been a huge basher of BB for a while now. That said, in the end, I think I got my money's worth. A friend of mine finally convinced me to play on-line and I've been enjoying it. I am not great at it, but good enough. I love building teams, getting experienced guys and the like.

Most people you play against are decent, but there are some jack-offs and rage quitters, but they are the exception not the rule.

The single player game still sucks.

Anything Cyanide had a hand in blows. All that's good about the game is the basic Blood Bowl stuff.

Gamers Gate 5 Year Celebration Sale (http://www.gamersgate.com/5years) - Not a whole lot of good games included, but it does have the original Thief for $5, plus Mirror's Edge and Arkham Asylum are included. I think the Potato Sack is worth it, or at the very least Super Meat Boy half off for $7.49. Super Meat Boy is easily one of the best games to come out last year, for other games in the pack Defense Grid is the best tower defense game out there, Killing Floor is a good survival FPS, and AaAaAaAA!! is a fun base jumping game that is one of my favorite creative indie titles in the last few years.

I think Steam on the PS3 is going to include Steamworks features like achievements and cloud saves along with access to your Steam friends and cross platform multiplayer. Cloud saves will not be cross platform though. I'm guessing it will only be used for Valve games and kind of doubt many other games will have cross platform multiplayer.

I picked this up while it's been on sale. It's nice for the price.

I picked it up too. All I can say is India is royally screwed. I played the campaign where you keep drilling for oil and use the money to try and save the world from global warming. In the campaign description they are quick to say nothing could possibly go wrong with this plan (right?). Anyway that was close to case (who needs polar ice caps or endangered species?) up until I had a massive world financial collapse I couldn't pull the world out of...oh and India was really screwed the whole way.

In India I ignored overcrowding until famine became an issue. Then before I could solve famine the pollution(I created this as part of my "solution") there started to make China look like a tropical resort. At this point they started a civil war. My fix wasn't pretty, but this place had gotten completely out of control and I needed something drastic or I would fail this campaign.

I created a virus to "solve" the overcrowding and cracked down hard on the civil war with military might. Without the overcrowding problem "solved" I wouldn't have had a chance of ever getting that turned around. The campaign ended (time limit) before I could do anything else and I would have won the campaign, but India's HDI was too low and caused me to fail the critical goal of raising every country in the world's HDI above 75.

This is just one campaign. There are about 10 of them or so. I would say worth the money. I mean, it isn't much more than an app off the IStore. And there is alot more game here than most of those offer.

I bought from Steam (as I have on many occasions) for $54.98. Gamestop currently selling PC version of Portal 2 for $29.99 (digital download is $49.99 ). What a ridiculous discrepancy.

This has nothing to do with the quality of the game, just the price.

I have to say that what I've seen regarding The Witcher 2 (http://store.steampowered.com/app/20920/) looks pretty damn cool to me. I am, however, having a hard time understanding why someone would preorder 5 months in advance. Looks like the current deal would save 10%, but the digital premium bonuses seem to be regarding the version, and not that it is necessarily a preorder. Have any of you already placed an order and mind sharing why?
With one week to go, my preorder trigger finger is losing the battle. It just keeps looking better and better with the video and text previews. Just got an EMail from GOG that I can purchase now and go ahead and pre-download it. Resistance is futile...
