Stronghold 1 was a lot of fun a very long time ago. I may have to pick up the new set to see how far it's come. It was a fun little castle-building game.

Spec Ops: The Line is 50% off less than a week after release, impressive. Picked it up due to reading some good reviews of it's storyline, which I really did not expect.

Yea, I've been considering picking it up. Probably read the same things you have. Gameplay is fairly standard FPS, if not below average, but the story is supposed to be pretty forward thinking as far as FPS game go.

The Steam Midweek Special ends at 1PM EST Thursday. That's not the usual time, right? That all but confirms that we should get our Paypal, Credit Cards, Steam Wallets ready to explode, amirite?
edit: Apparently they normally end at 4PM PST. The Summer Sales last year switch every day at 1PM EST. I'm going to guess this Thursday is the day.
I don't know why this makes me really excited, but it does.

Have some games I'm waiting for a sale to spring on, hope they make it. The already named bundles didn't excite me much though.
I'm prepped up with about 30 games on my wishlist (includes a lot of DLC). Never know what's gonna be for sale!

I don't have much more time than I used to have but my son and I both just bought ourselves each a new XPS laptop with an i7 and a decent enough videocard. Might be interesting to jump into some of the newer games for once. He's already given me a wishlist of his own...

I'm fairly certain there are more packs still to be added before the sale starts, we're still missing Valve, PopCap, MumboJumbo, Epic, id, Lucasarts, Konami, Rockstar, Sega, WB, Ubisoft and possibly EA.

If you play a little bit of Xbox live, let your account go Silver. Chances are if you don't use the XBox for a few days that when you get back there will be a 1 Month for $1 offer or a 2 Months for $2. Purchase that, but turn off auto renewal in a few days. Repeat process again. Now at 7 Months for $7 sO far this year.

That includes the entire first game and the entire second game with DLC and the newest "house divided" expansion. Or you can just by the expansion for $11.99 on it's own (and that's marked down from $19.99.) Your choice.

Anyone else subscribe to Best Buy's @gamer magazine?
The magazine itself isn't anything special, but your $16 yearly subscription gets you access to tons of coupons.
Last month would have netted you SSX for $9.99($30 off coupon + $20 off sale price, yes these DO stack with sale prices), Deadliest Warrior for $9.99, and Dragon Age 2 for $9.99.
This month nets you a $25 off coupon for Tiger Woods 13 and $30 off Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning(making it $9.99).
So far in my experience they seem to discount a fairly new game to $9.99 each month, and give you a big discount on other newish games.
They also toss in a couple of pre-owned coupons in as well. This month you save on Fable 3 and The Show. As well as a catch all coupon covering any pre-owned games $9.99 to $19.99.
They also tend to toss in a coupon for an accessory. This month it is $50 off the turtle beach PX3 headset.
The coupons are always good for about a month so you can watch for sales to save the most money.
The coupons are in store only.
I don't tend to use the pre-owned coupons, but the big $30 off new you get each month are awesome.

I'd say for a game like Borderlands you should probably go with the ability to play with your friends. Plus if you like it enough and end up wanting it on PC later on it will probably be available for $5 to $10 within a year and a half. Only decent deal I've seen for Borderland 2 on console is the $10 credit from Amazon, though there's still time for someone to do some sort of discount.

So I bust this CKII game out after trying to play it a few times and not "getting it". Well I got it this go around.
Here's the Chris Berman 2-minute of my entire dynasty...
I took a southern Ireland Count and slowly built up a duchy that covered all of southern Ireland. I sent my daughter off to England to shack up with the Prince of England. My brother, who has claim to one county disses me and picks a fight...so while I'm fighting him...my long-lost daughter shows back up to back up my brother(!) in this civil war with an army from her husband...who is now King of England...perfect...She wipes me out and relagates me to one county...but my dickhead brother...being a dickhead attacks my daughter, the Queen of Fucking England...so I figure I can get some of that action and attack my daughter too...who promptly surrenders to me and gives me all my land back. So I of course attack my brother and kick his ass. Meanwhile my wife is banging some asshole from Sweden and my lineage gets all fucked up. If I want the game to continue I have to go on a serious killing spree. So I assassinate my wife so I can marry this young dame from Germany to have lots of kids...but the Swedes are having kids too and I have three bastard sons and a grandson I have to kill in order to get claim to my duchy back...I kill the oldest son on a stroke of luck...I plot to have the grandson killed and that succeeds...another son mysteriously dies on his own...and the last son catches my assassins and sends his own assassins over and kills me....game over.
Holy shit...great game!

I think this one lasts until the end of the month, though it seems they almost always have a 20% off coupon going around.
I may have to use this for Dark Souls also, just finished Sleeping Dogs which I'd picked up using one of their previous coupons. GMG has been a great place to preorder games with at least 20% off along with other discounts for preorders (I'd picked up Sleeping Dogs for about $30 and Borderland for $40) with a lot of the big titles activating on Steam.
They did have a slight screw up on the Sleeping Dogs preorder keys and I didn't get one for about 18 hours after release so you might not be able to play right away, but saving $20 was well worth it.
EDIT: Also, you can use the coupon more than once, but only once per order.

You should get an activation key in your order confirmation that you use on Steam by going to the Games tab at the top of Steam and then selecting Activate a Game on Steam.
If it's a preorder you probably won't get the activation code until the game unlocks on Steam in your region.

So it downloads with GMG's downloader and then you use Steam to activate it?
Do the patches come from Steam then? OR do you just pay for the key and then once you input that into Steam, it downloads from Steam.
Thank you.

For products that activate on Steam they just buy a bunch of keys from the publisher. You'll get a key and need to activate it on Steam, you won't use their Capsule program at all.

For you and anyone else playing Dark Souls, there's someone working on a resolution fix for the game (it's only designed to render at 1024x720, then it upscales to whatever resolution you use). It's still a work in progress as the message text doesn't display with it currently, so you should play through the early parts where it tells you the controls before using it.

I think it is worth $10. I am not a big fan of rts games, but this one has pretty cool gameplay and a neat way to view the map and such with slick controls. It is not an easy game by any means but if your looking for something in the cold war, I think you might get some enjoyment out of it, especially for only $10.

Yep, I would agree.....for $10, you could do a lot worse. Just have to take the game for what it is an RTS that will have increased difficulty as the game progresses. I still stand by worth $10, I believe I purchased when it was $25 or so and I still think that was a good deal.

How is it on PC?
Controls well with a mouse and keyboard aside from a few problems in the first couple episodes where the target where you have to click being slightly off the person or object and a few weird parts where the mouse is emulating control of a thumb stick. It was mostly in the first episode so they cleaned most of that up in the following episodes. You can also use a controller if you'd like.
It ran without any problems for me and it I don't think the system requirements are that high.
And I second CleBrownsfan's recommendation, it's one of the best games you'll play this year.
I will say though that in a lot of ways it's more of an interactive visual novel than a game. If you're hoping for action you'll be disappointed as there isn't any outside of a few quick time events. And there are puzzles, but they're secondary and take a back seat to the interactions between the characters. The story and characters are more than enough to carry the game in my eyes though.

$15 is a good price. Granted, if you wait another 6 months you'll likely be able to get it for $10. Still, $15 for one of the best games of the year is a good deal.

For The Walking Dead it's the cheapest you'll see it until a little while after all of the episodes are released. Some others like New Vegas have been on better deals before, and probably will be again.

Laughing about this because I found Tom Clancy's EndWar while scrolling through my Steam library the other day. I thought I'd been given a free game and was happy. Went through my email and found that I had purchased it for 2 bucks during the Steam summer sale but forgot about it.

No, nothing else they've done is as good as it. I love the atmosphere of the Puzzle Agent games, but it's not really in the same league as The Walking Dead. To be honest I wasn't expecting much when I heard Telltale was doing a Walking Dead game since before it they'd had a run of pretty bad releases.
Not to say that some of their other games aren't good adventure games, but none of them compare to the quality of The Walking Dead.
EDIT: For an example of the kind of atmosphere it has, Puzzle Agent is based on this.

I'm thinking about getting the 200 dollar PS3 bundle with Uncharted collection and Infamous collection on black Friday. Any thoughts? Good deal? The main concern is are the PS3 exclusives good enough to warrant purchase because I already have a 360. I hate the mlb2k series though and kind of want a decent baseball option and mlb on PS3 looks like it could scratch that itch

Just my 2 cents...
A ps3 and The Show for ~$260 is worth it without getting the bonus games in the bundle IMHO. Of course it's easy for me to spend your money:) but I do think The Show is that good.
As for other ps3 exclusives I don't really know. I mostly play sports titles, and don't have any other ps3 exclusive games, so can't comment there.

I always liked 2 better than 1. Probably because I played 2 before I played 1 though. But it had more options during conversations as well. Plus it really went out of its way to have an equivalent of each major SW character around. I think what I liked most though was how the story started. YOu started as jedi right off the bat, albeit one without a memory or something like that that had to build up. And being a jedi I think was the best part of this stuff.

yeah, no real timeline issues although it echoes a lot of the themes of the show / comics (perhaps a little too much IMO). I feel it's a lot like the show itself - great story (better than the show, actually) but some of the characters will get on your nerves (and by "some" I mean "almost all"). Like the show, there are moments of brilliance and moments of meh.
definitely worth playing through. oh, and as an FYI there is a quick scene after the final credits of the last episode.

Walking Dead is $12.49 and the last episode is out.
Ugh. The wife went to see Twilight on Tuesday night, so I decided to finally purchase TWD from Amazon and take it for a spin. It took longer to download than I figured, so I never actually got to play it. Then I woke up on Wednesday to find it 50% off!
Amazon was very cool about it and offered to refund my money so I could re-purchase, but it doesn't appear as though you can uninstall and re-install the same game on Steam.

A couple notes on todays deals:
-If you're interested in DayZ you might be better off skipping Arma II and buying the stand alone that's coming out this year.
-Max Payne is available with the DLC season pass for $20 on Amazon right now and it comes with Steam activation, cheaper than you'll get them together on Steam

Noticing this more and more. It's making the Steam sales interesting in that I don't plan on exclusively using Steam. No more throwing 100 bucks onto a Steam account because there is a good chance steam will be undercut. Hell, GMG (Green Man Gaming) had Sleeping Dogs for $13 earlier this week. I missed it, but that just blows Steam away.

It's probably due to the difference in how the stores work. Steam let's the publisher set the base and sale prices and then takes a % cut (which I think is the same for both regular and sale prices) from every copy sold. Amazon and GMG will often buy up bulk lots of keys so the publishers don't care what they sell them for afterwards, so they can sell for a lower margin to drive traffic to their site.

It's been on sale for under $5 and that's a pretty weird game. Since it's kinda odd, I'd recommend peeps wait until it's $5 again to try.
This is with the expansion packs included, so the deal may be different in value than it was previously. Why is it a weird game? I see it as being kind of similar to XCOM, but dealing with world events rather than space aliens.

Company of Heroes question....I'm not a fan of RTS games so can you slow everything down to a snails pace? Pause and give orders? I hate being rushed so I'm terrible at RTS games.

XCOM is kind of a bad comparison for Fate of the World. It's a card game where you try to stop global warming.

It has zero in common with XCOM. One is a card game, the other is a squad-based combat game. That's like saying an umbrella is kind of similar to peanut butter.

You still deploy agents to various locations to combat things on a budget while trying to research new ways to defeat the problems you face. You also have to make sure to secure continued funding from those regions as well. Just because it is handled by a mechanic involving cards rather than fighting on a grid doesn't mean it is a lot different. I think the cards were an excellent way of simplifying the interface and making it easy to get into quickly. I mean I'm not even trying to defend the game here as much as I am trying to defend my description of it, I just wanted to know why you thought it was weird.

Yea. And the fucked up thing is that I put 95% of my time into god damn Counter-Strike while other games just sit there. I'll fire up another game and play it for a couple hours then go back to Counter-Strike. I think this sale and the winter sale I'll just buy super cheap games*. I spent $150+ on the Summer Sale and I will barely touch it.
* Watch me when the Christmas sale rolls around and Borderlands 2, Sleeping Dogs, Assassins Creed III, Dishonored, and Darksiders II are heavily discounted. I'll break. Also, right now I keep looking for FTL and Torchlight II to get a 50% discount.

How good/bad was Age of Empires 3? The complete edition is at 9.24 at steam.
and Jagged Alliance Back in Action? is it a good remake? similar to xcom?
Talking about unused games... I just decided to finally buy Simcity 4 as it's cheap... then Steam said... "you already have this game".

I guess I was just lucky. You can usually find someone up late here on Friday nights. So I tried to post the deal as soon as I saw it. But it was up on Slickdeals and Cheap Ass Gamer. That explains how it went so quickly. In between my first and second posts, the Cheap Ass Gamer thread where it was announced got over forty pages of posts.
I got in near the beginning, and I still missed out on Diablo III, Rocksmith, Lollipop Chainsaw and Lego Batman 2 for $10. I heard that Microsoft should have those deals at their brick and mortar stores if you're lucky enough to live near one.

I was away for Thanksgiving and so I didn't make any purchases. But this is the time of year I end up buying lots of games, and as others have pointed out, they sit uninstalled on Steam. I'm sure this year will be no exception (Christmas/New Years Deals await). But I also wish I could set that impulse aside and actually play some of the games I have already purchased. For example, I have been unable to get into Crusader Kings 2. I've read the other thread and see how many of you are enjoying it. I wish I knew what I was missing... Fallout New Vegas is sitting uninstalled. I've played the Faster Than Light tutorial three times now. I've only played 2 hours of XCOM. 86 minutes of Deus Ex. WTH is wrong with me... :banghead:

Helluva deal.
Do these have steam activation?

well, I'm a little annoyed. I paid $14.99 for Torchlight II and Witcher 2 earlier in the sale, and now they are $9.99 and $7.49 respectively. Not a huge amount of money, but still not thrilled about it
I don't remember them cutting prices like this during a sale and honestly it might make me hold off from pulling the trigger in the future.

The Pint Sized is the only one that doesn't list Steam in the description, though Warlock requires Steam and whenever I've bought CK2 DLC from Amazon I've received Steam keys.

Should, yes. There's a thread linked at the bottom of the Pint-Size page that asks and answers that question. Fozzie gifted me CKII over the weekend, so I'm thinking the pint-size is a must-buy for me. I've been wanting MotA for a while; the CKII DLC just sweetens the deal.

You can generally get an idea of what games might get further cuts by looking at what's on sale to start with. Prices don't generally go UP if they're on sale at the start of the sale, unless Steam sells through the number of agreed-upon keys for the game in question.
So if you see, say, Torchlight II on sale at $14.99 on day 1 of the sale, it's a fair bet that it will drop at some point, either via flash sale or a daily deal.
