NBA 2K16 News Post

A pet peeve in a video game is just a little thing that drives you crazy. It’s not really a “game killer” or anything like that to me, it’s just that one thing you wish was better. It can be something small like a player's signature shot being slightly off, or it can even be a bit bigger like an inability to import a draft class.

The point is this pet peeve gnaws at you even though you actively try to ignore it. It’s that big brother who pokes you in that spot between your chest and shoulder (come on, you know the spot). He just keeps doing it over and over trying to get a rise out of you. You try to pretend it doesn’t bother you, but inside your own head you’re screaming. Finally, you snap and check him through the wall. From there, you have a moment of jubilation, only to then realize you’ve sealed your own fate and the pummeling of a lifetime. So you immediately sprint out of the house and plan to hide in the small wooded area until your mom gets home from work. Only you realize your mom is going to be pissed about the brother-sized hole in the living room wall, so you do the math on how long you need to stay out before she’s just happy you’re home and totally forgets about the wall. However, somewhere along the line you realize you’re a 10-year-old kid who's totally not cool with being in the woods when it gets dark. This realization ends with a sad slink home as you accept your doomed fate.

...Oh, uh yeah sorry, got a bit off track there I guess.

The point is we all have these pet peeves in our video games. I’m going to highlight just a couple of my own in NBA 2K16, and then maybe you all will have some to share as well. Let’s do it.

My biggest pet peeve is that lack of bad shots by the CPU, they always wait until the last mili-second of the 24 second clock, my other pet peeve is when the CPU makes an acrobatic pass to someone that should be completely out of their line of sight.

The fact that all you read on boards from everyone is how much they hate this game and how cheesy it can be makes you question yhe motive of the reviewer. Most overrated game in a LONG TIME! Live 16 doesn't have all the bell and whistles of 2k16, but at least while offline I can actually play dynasty and rising star season and SAVE MY GAME with my game face player! 2k16 doesn't even let you SAVE your creation if you're offline! Unacceptable.
Have you tried disabling your internet on your system? Go into your network settings and disable your internet connection all together. Not just what WiFi you are connected too. I just tested this to be sure and I was able to create and save a MyGM offline, and then was able to load it while offline

A pet peeve is more of a minor annoyance. Not huge flaws that the majority of OS or 2K users are already aware of. Even the OP said it well "A pet peeve in a video game is just a little thing that drives you crazy. It’s not really a “game killer” or anything like that to me, it’s just that one thing you wish was better." We already know transition D and help D is flawed

I think this thread is more to inform the devs than "OS or 2k users." If they see a conplaint come up enough times they might fix it next year. Wouldn't you rather see them fix the bug issues over the small?

No, the thread had a specific purpose.

Yes of course.. just saying that my point was that I think the reason for this thread was it was supposed to be the small things, and it got turned into just listing your cons about the game. They are all viable reasons and complaints, just not all small, pet peeve type things as I think the OP intended

The attempted side stepped 3, that is turned into a fall away 3!!!

Staff who refuse to sign with you during the season no matter how good your team is.

Missing WIDE open shots with 85+
Getting stripped
Getting blocked on a dunk cause of an awful animation

2k16 has eliminated or improved many of my pet peeves of the past, and I can't think of any that really drive me crazy this year but there are still some annoyances.

I agree with the awkward slide and will add the touchy movement on the offensive side. Again I think this was improved this year but it is still difficult to stop where you want and position your player where you want. An example would be trying to make sure your player is behind the arc when attempting a 3. There are times where I will either step over the line when approaching the arc or end up taking a deep 3 when moving my player outside the arc.

Also agree about some of the defensive logic and help defense. There are times where players are wide open for seemingly no logical reason.

One that I will add is mismatches. This could be more or an error on my side but I can't stand when I see a juicy mismatch, like a big guarding a pg, and I can't take advantage. Try to cross him and blow by him and I can't get around him. Try to create space for an open jumper and end up with a contested shot. Perhaps it is me not approaching these situations correctly but there have been plenty of times where I thought I had an easy mismatch to exploit only for it to backfire in my face.

as an "offline" player, pet peeves are:

Gameplay - off top: transition D, cherry-picking, and, i agree with strawberryshortcake regarding Players/Big Man guarding the crowd/standing out of the bounds under the basket instead of guarding the paint; on the animation part of this equation, body-warping into another player/the basket stand/the sidelines

Graphics - the biggest gripe is the color inconsistency, primarily with most of the players' skin colors, and in addition, color/saturation/hue of uniforms/courts... claiming to have used body scanning for player models, but still only using a limited set of body types (5 or 6, maybe) for some 400 NBA players (i'd rather, use body scan on all players to get the right body type/physical dimensions/ratios and not be able to edit them, OR, using the limited set of body types we have now but making them fully edit-able so we can best approximate what's real)

Definitely no post game highlights on ps4 is my biggest pet peeve

# 37 bluedevil515151 @ 02/09/16 11:51 PM
when they call fouls even though you just pressing L2 and contesting shots well

# 38 Khaos_Kiwi @ 02/10/16 01:16 AM
Mine would have to be refs getting in the way when running down the sideline (getting sucked into the collision animation).

And also getting sucked into a screen even when you clearly move your player around it.

How quickly the CPU reacts to loose balls kills me every time. Also when the ball magnetically goes into their hands while my guy is going for the ball and is in better position.

*The way Rosters work.

I spend months on end editing my roster only for 2k to keep releasing new content which I then cannot use because they don't allow you to integrate it into anything other than the most current official roster file they put out.

Jerseys. Player movements. Player appearances etc - all are basically unusable unless you insist on playing with 2k's generic, unaltered roster update.

*The fact that almost everything is customizable yet 2k still can't give us the ability to edit sock colour or short length......REALLY?

*Zero authentic arena sounds/music for classic teams. It's been missing since 2k12 - retro team arenas feel empty and pointless.

Yeah, I know that's 3 peeves, but what ever.
