NBA 2K13 News Post


The NBA 2K13 patch has arrived for PS3 and 360. The details on the patch haven't been released yet, but we'll update this post as soon as they are available.

UPDATE: NBA 2K13 Patch Details

GAMEPLAY
  • Improved AI rebounding logic to balance out offensive rebound frequency.
  • Tuned AI transition defense; users will now have more fast break opportunities against the CPU. Additionally, CPU teammates are now more able to guard their opponents on the break.
  • Long range passes are now less accurate and will result in more fumbled and missed catches.
  • Passing successfully out of a double team has been tuned to be slightly more difficult.
  • Tuned the logic behind Charging calls so that they are properly called. Charges will now sometimes be called when the defender is in position and stationary, even if he is not in the “Take Charge” animation.
  • Tuned timing on block animations, and made the AI more vigilant about blocking layups and dunks.
  • Improved reach-in foul detection when defender continually swipes at the ball, results in more called fouls where appropriate.
  • AI now only calls for a full court press in appropriate situations (i.e. late in the game).
  • Addressed two dunk animations that were not counting for a score when they were converted.
  • Fixed an issue where Replay would show the incorrect play, rather than what actually happened on the court.
  • AI positioning when running plays has been tuned so that big men with limited shooting range will not move further away from the basket than what their range allows.
  • AI teammates will now remain in the Post Up position longer when a Quick Post play is called for them.
  • Tuned alley-oop and putback dunks such that only players who have a high tendency to perform either move are able to finish with one.
  • Removed the restrictions for the ‘Microwave’ Signature Skill such that it now works regardless of whether you are already on a hot or cold streak.
  • When a block is recorded for a player with the ‘Eraser’ Signature Skill, only the shooting attributes of the blocked player are lowered.
  • Fixed a rare issue where a traveling violation would be called on a pass fake.
  • Referee Review on last shot will no longer play if the shot has no effect on the outcome of the game.
  • A number of other smaller changes have been made to address issues and enhance the user experience.
  • Tuned three-point percentage.
GENERAL
  • NIKEiD shoes will now appear properly in-game after being equipped to a player.
  • Addressed an issue where the game score would disappear in Blacktop games when Signature Highlights were viewed in the pause menu.
  • Fixed an issue where Free Throw Feedback would no longer appear in games after playing an Online MyTEAM game.
  • Addressed an issue in Online MyTEAM games where the away team player would have the Signature Skills of the home team player if identical players were used in the game by both players.
  • Music will no longer be disabled and Game Settings will no longer revert back to Default when completing an online game in MyTEAM.
  • Changed the difficulty settings for all of the seeds in MyTEAM.
  • (360) Addressed a Kinect issue where a misleading overlay would appear when a timeout was called through a voice command when no timeouts were remaining.
MyCAREER
  • Added additional warning re: conversion of an online MyCAREER (one that earns VC) to an offline MyCAREER (one that earns Skill Points).
  • Fixed an issue where the remainder of the user’s schedule would appear empty after participating in the various All-Star Weekend events. This change also carries over to Association/Season modes.
  • ‘Run Plays’ and ‘PlayVision’ should now function properly (when activated), regardless of your MyPLAYER’s position.
  • Fixed an issue where all games in October would be simulated when ‘Play Next Game’ is selected after the start of a new season.
  • Users playing MyCAREERs that accrue Skill Points will no longer find themselves with negative skill points after played games (where a number of unlikely conditions were all met).
  • Addressed a rare hang that would occur if the “Defend Your Home Court” billboard commercial would play between quarters of the Rising Stars Challenge or All-Star game.
  • Addressed a number of issues with the Social Media feature, including one where the news feed would stop updating completely.
  • When changing teams via free agency in the offseason, your MyPLAYER will now receive the proper role (starter, sixth man, etc.) that was promised during the contract negotiation.
  • You will no longer fail the Dynamic Goal “Give your team the lead before the game ends” when subbed out before the end of the game.
  • The Teammate Chemistry rating on the “Play Next Game” loading screen should now display the correct value (as seen in the Social Media menu).
  • The volume of the menu music and sound effects will no longer become extremely quiet after playing consecutive games in MyCAREER.
ASSOCIATION
  • 3PT Tendency progression logic has been rewritten to correctly model the growth variances within each player type in the game. This change also carries over to MyCAREER mode.
  • Users will no longer lose their Scouting Reports after viewing the Recent Games tab of a player card.
  • Birth years can now be set to later than 1993 when editing Draft Classes after the first season of Association.
  • Addressed a rare hang that would occur when attempting to participate in the Dunk Contest with a created player assigned to a created team.
  • (Association: Online) Offense and Defense options should now save properly when using the Total Sim Control feature.
  • (Association: Online) Admins will now have access to appropriate Commissioner Tools during the offseason.
NOTE: All patch fixes will work in your existing game mode saves (MyCAREER, Association, etc.).

So did the patch cause the posterize Sig to stop working? I paid all the vc to get it bug the moment I got the patch its dnt work anymore, and even if it does the animation looks terrible now! Has anybody else had this problem?

this patch just seems that much more natural and organic

greatest sports game I have ever played.

It just polished it to a shine. I love it

I really am against the concept of not being able to use injured players online. It really kills me to not be able to pick a team like Bulls (my best team in 2k12) to use online because Rose is injured. I love how a game like Madden deals with this where you can set your lineup outside of matchup (sometimes i'll hit button at same time and not be able to adjust my lineup, I rather have auto subs then manual alot) That's been my biggest gripe with game besides well just glitches. The elite teams are not going to be missing like Lebron off injuries anytime soon because he doesn't get hurt so why have T'wolves without Love/rubio who will use them?

Hello guys,

maybe someone could help me by providing info where exactly I should upload downloaded patch file into my X-360 HDD? I don't have online access and my X-360 has been updated from "standard" to JTAG (RGH).
For example for rosters updates I use flash FXP soft I just drop file into appropriate folder.
So which "correct" folder should be for successful patch update?

i haven't played the game in like 4 weeks cause do OAs and it was unplayable pre-patch, i downloaded the patch now and played a few games here are my thoughts:

-LOVE LOVE LOVE the reach in fouls, its about time 2k... stop these cheesers online from breaking their x buttons. i love it, reach in fouls are amazing, no more spamming the steal button online.

-long passes and reaction to long passes still need to be addressed a little more, people are still throwing full court passes like they are tom brady(pats fan). it is so annoying, all these full court passing even after made baskets.

-which leads into transition defense, still bad. teammates jogging back, its so annoying. most of the time i just sprint back by myself with my center and they still some how complete those long passes it's ridiculous.

-defense, defense, defense. its terrible. from AI teammates just starring at the ball while its in the air to not reactions to full court passes, it has to be addressed.

-rebounding as been fixed i can say that, i actually see people boxing out now and grabbing rebounds which was not the case pre patch.

-my biggest problem with this game still is the releases. its really really needs to be addressed. my thumb hurts from having the hold the shoot button down 5 seconds just to get a perfect release. 2k11 and 2k12 had it perfect. i do not understand why the releases are so delayed this year it doesnt feel natural. even kevin martin and shawn marion have long releases thats when you know your release system is broken...

overall i like the patch because it fixed a lot of thing gameplay wise but there is still a lot of work to be done to get it 2k11 status or even 2k12 for that matter.

thoughts???

That is great bc people like you who all you do is mash the steal button are the only one's complaining. Learn to play defense use hands up animation and slide in front of guy your guarding. I still get a few steal here and there if guys are not paying attention to there dribble. Watch an NBA game and the only steals that happen are intercepting passes most of the time. No one straight steals from the guy dribbling more than once a game if that. So 2K has decided that people like you are cheesers and should be penalized for mashing steal button. Most real 2K players will agree.

I agree 100%. I pretty much only play offline association or versus my friends offline. I use a slider set, but either way offline is amazing. Most of complaint on here are about online or my career. Offline has very few issues and I am a realistic person and understand that programmers can't make a perfect simulation game. People that play offline and complain usually will complain no matter what they fix there will be another issue for them. This is definitely my favorite sports game ever and all I play are sports games.

It's Nearly Impossible To Stop Dunkers..Once They Get A Step In The FT Line, Nothing You Can Really Do..3pt Shooting Still Somewhat Easy; In My OA People Are Breaking League Records Every Game On 7 Min Quarters

Hope Sub rotation for cpu and auto fixed. Subbing players with foul trouble and not always play 12 players for cpu in a game.

The patch SUCKS !
1) can't get VC points on NBA TODAY and PICK AND WIN.
2) the 3pt shooting in online/my team is ridiculous (way to easy !) the game is ruined...
3) in my career - as a 6'3 PG ! the coach still play me sometimes as SF and PF ! i doubt that tom thibodeau would do that...

FIX IT ASAP

*sigh* A little searching would result in finding a workaround for the above. Simply switch your controller to the opposite team, go to the game temporarily, then switch the controller back before the game starts and you'll get VC. I've done it as late as the 3rd quarter and gotten VC.

I have a couple problems with the patch. 1 myplayer turnovers and fouls are up but steals are down. I get that I am not going to get as many steals due to the patch but it should be constant. The cpu has a grreater advantage now despite my 99 steal rating and pick pocket SS. Even big men who have no business dribbling are hard to strip. 2 that same type of unbalance occurs on double teams. since myplayer is highly rated and goes off for a huge game often he is double teamed most of the game. I already had issue with the AI not coming too the ball or making cuts or getting to open shooting spots or whatever the right choice would be during the particular double team. They just kind of stand around or often bunch up near the other 3 defenders without smart movements to help me get the ball to the open man. Now since the patch the cpu's double teams are more likely to work and are harder to pass from. Inversely, it is harder to trap a man when I am on defense and it often results in it being split or blown past something usually only few great players can do regularly. 4. freezes, disappearing social feed on home screen, disappearing myplayer teammate grade bar and myplayer rating online and offline are different. idk why that is or what i can do to change it.

Thats all im done gripping

I commend you for admitting you actually WANT to be able to spam steal. How do you feel when someone is doing that you though? The game has always strives to be as sim as possible and it will do what's most realistic. I'm sure you can respect that goal although you may not agree with it.

The lack of on/off ball contact on defense is something I'm disappointed didn't get addressed more for this patch. I'm hoping for the next patch Visual Concept developers can work on this a little bit. I would really hate to have to wait untill 2k14 to actually have good contact on defense.

Inside the paint off-ball trying to defend bigs, there is almost no body contact at all so people can easily get right under the basket.

The off-ball bumping/bouncing animations are so annoying when you run into someone. On defense when this bumping animation happens it wont let you jump/move at all.

On-ball defense there isn't enough body contact and ball handlers can simply slide off your defenders body or just keep trying to ram their way into the paint with little consequences, such as lossing the ball or picking up their dribble more. I would like to see the on-ball defense attribute raised like it was in 2k11.

Dunks and on some layups there should be some contact/collision animations with the defender, with the possibility of being able to block some dunks without your hand morphing through the ball. On-ball defenders on dunks and some layups shouldn't be simply getting moved/pushed out of the way so easily. I don't expect this to be addressed however untill 2k14 probably, since they need to work alot more on their contact/collision physics system and add more animations.

Played my first online game post patch. Was playing a guy who had the Lakers and Kobe was raining 3s on me all game. The only way to stop him was to steal the ball before he got a shot off but they ruined this by calling fouls on every steal attempt !
