NBA 2K13 News Post


The NBA 2K13 patch has arrived for PS3 and 360. The details on the patch haven't been released yet, but we'll update this post as soon as they are available.

UPDATE: NBA 2K13 Patch Details

GAMEPLAY
  • Improved AI rebounding logic to balance out offensive rebound frequency.
  • Tuned AI transition defense; users will now have more fast break opportunities against the CPU. Additionally, CPU teammates are now more able to guard their opponents on the break.
  • Long range passes are now less accurate and will result in more fumbled and missed catches.
  • Passing successfully out of a double team has been tuned to be slightly more difficult.
  • Tuned the logic behind Charging calls so that they are properly called. Charges will now sometimes be called when the defender is in position and stationary, even if he is not in the “Take Charge” animation.
  • Tuned timing on block animations, and made the AI more vigilant about blocking layups and dunks.
  • Improved reach-in foul detection when defender continually swipes at the ball, results in more called fouls where appropriate.
  • AI now only calls for a full court press in appropriate situations (i.e. late in the game).
  • Addressed two dunk animations that were not counting for a score when they were converted.
  • Fixed an issue where Replay would show the incorrect play, rather than what actually happened on the court.
  • AI positioning when running plays has been tuned so that big men with limited shooting range will not move further away from the basket than what their range allows.
  • AI teammates will now remain in the Post Up position longer when a Quick Post play is called for them.
  • Tuned alley-oop and putback dunks such that only players who have a high tendency to perform either move are able to finish with one.
  • Removed the restrictions for the ‘Microwave’ Signature Skill such that it now works regardless of whether you are already on a hot or cold streak.
  • When a block is recorded for a player with the ‘Eraser’ Signature Skill, only the shooting attributes of the blocked player are lowered.
  • Fixed a rare issue where a traveling violation would be called on a pass fake.
  • Referee Review on last shot will no longer play if the shot has no effect on the outcome of the game.
  • A number of other smaller changes have been made to address issues and enhance the user experience.
  • Tuned three-point percentage.
GENERAL
  • NIKEiD shoes will now appear properly in-game after being equipped to a player.
  • Addressed an issue where the game score would disappear in Blacktop games when Signature Highlights were viewed in the pause menu.
  • Fixed an issue where Free Throw Feedback would no longer appear in games after playing an Online MyTEAM game.
  • Addressed an issue in Online MyTEAM games where the away team player would have the Signature Skills of the home team player if identical players were used in the game by both players.
  • Music will no longer be disabled and Game Settings will no longer revert back to Default when completing an online game in MyTEAM.
  • Changed the difficulty settings for all of the seeds in MyTEAM.
  • (360) Addressed a Kinect issue where a misleading overlay would appear when a timeout was called through a voice command when no timeouts were remaining.
MyCAREER
  • Added additional warning re: conversion of an online MyCAREER (one that earns VC) to an offline MyCAREER (one that earns Skill Points).
  • Fixed an issue where the remainder of the user’s schedule would appear empty after participating in the various All-Star Weekend events. This change also carries over to Association/Season modes.
  • ‘Run Plays’ and ‘PlayVision’ should now function properly (when activated), regardless of your MyPLAYER’s position.
  • Fixed an issue where all games in October would be simulated when ‘Play Next Game’ is selected after the start of a new season.
  • Users playing MyCAREERs that accrue Skill Points will no longer find themselves with negative skill points after played games (where a number of unlikely conditions were all met).
  • Addressed a rare hang that would occur if the “Defend Your Home Court” billboard commercial would play between quarters of the Rising Stars Challenge or All-Star game.
  • Addressed a number of issues with the Social Media feature, including one where the news feed would stop updating completely.
  • When changing teams via free agency in the offseason, your MyPLAYER will now receive the proper role (starter, sixth man, etc.) that was promised during the contract negotiation.
  • You will no longer fail the Dynamic Goal “Give your team the lead before the game ends” when subbed out before the end of the game.
  • The Teammate Chemistry rating on the “Play Next Game” loading screen should now display the correct value (as seen in the Social Media menu).
  • The volume of the menu music and sound effects will no longer become extremely quiet after playing consecutive games in MyCAREER.
ASSOCIATION
  • 3PT Tendency progression logic has been rewritten to correctly model the growth variances within each player type in the game. This change also carries over to MyCAREER mode.
  • Users will no longer lose their Scouting Reports after viewing the Recent Games tab of a player card.
  • Birth years can now be set to later than 1993 when editing Draft Classes after the first season of Association.
  • Addressed a rare hang that would occur when attempting to participate in the Dunk Contest with a created player assigned to a created team.
  • (Association: Online) Offense and Defense options should now save properly when using the Total Sim Control feature.
  • (Association: Online) Admins will now have access to appropriate Commissioner Tools during the offseason.
NOTE: All patch fixes will work in your existing game mode saves (MyCAREER, Association, etc.).

Haha wow man that all just sounds like "Wahhhhhhh!!! I can't mash the steal button and get 50 pts off of turnovers!!! Wahhhhhhh!!!!" I don't want a challenge or be competitive and actually LEARN how to play BASKETBALL ina BASKETBALL GAME!! Wahhhhhhh!! Listen bro I'm gonna help you out, instead of coming here and crying about not getting your way, go into the settings options in the game and turn down "reach in foul frequency" all the way down to 0, play a game and spam the X or square button till your thumb bleeds.
But if your playing online? Well too bad, get used to dissapointment. I might even play a game or 2 online now that people like you are either trying to play smarter by not reaching in 100 times a game or not online anymore period and leaving guys that know how to win without using cheap/boring tactics.

I agree with u 100% just like real life basketball if u can't play good on ball D u will be penalized so get used to it. So either learn how to play on ball D or all u steal spammers should go play NBA JAM!!!

This is false. I waited on playing the allstar weekend and now it sims the rest of the season to the playoffs and there are no games on the calender. The patch did not help this. If I have to start over I want my VC back. Does any one know how to fix this?

Just played a beautiful, legit low scoring NBA basketball game.

Final score was 83-81, I won off a last second mid range jumper off an inbounds screen with Andre Igoudala.

Both teams had trouble finding the bucket in this one, shooting 44 and 39% from the field. Before the patch I never thought I would see such a beautiful low scoring game.

After the patch, I'm seeing games with such variety I absolutely love it. Fouls, points, everything is varied. I finally feel like I can play a full season in association and every game will be different.

I can't thank 2K enough for this patch. They've taken care of the offline player with this one and I really appreciate it

How do I get the patch? I have the game for 360 so I thought I would get the update available message to download it but I still haven't got it.

I have downloaded the patch a week ago but only have this chance to try it out. I am currently playing a cpu v. cpu game (Hornets v. Suns) and the patch seems to be alright except one glaring issue.

Hornet starting point guard Greivis Vasquez committed his 4th personal foul barely 2 minutes in the 3rd quarter (12 minutes), no response from the AI coach. Vasquez eventually got foul no.5 7 minutes thereafter and continues to play.

AI coach wont sub players out in foul trouble, sure, 2k ”fixed” fouls. But did they really? Now, good players foul out early cause the AI coach has his head in the sand. Really hope this gets fixed.

The reach calls are too sensitive. One swipe at the ball handler and seven out of ten times you'll get called for a reach.

im really happy with how the game plays after the patch.no complaints here.game is really flowin in my opinion.

Why? It's not fair or realistic at all. The calls are completely up to chance and really take away aggressive defense. Even when the ball is being dribbled in plain sight of the defender I get called on the first steal attempt. It's ridiculous.

To be honest....I find that many of the people who complained bout steals pre patch just dont know how to protect the ball very well....i think post patch the foul calls are a bit too excessive but i guess its cause of the excessive steal button mashing that took place that ruined it for everybody....

If possible, i think 2K should have kept the steal:foul call ratio the same for half court offensive dribbling and regular isomotion and dribbling moves and heightened the sensitivity (the way it is post patch) for post moves only .....i think the steals were only true bs when it came to posting cats up cause it would be damn near impossible some games to have a successful post match up without a CP3 or Rondo roaming and abusing the steal every possession...

by no means am i a steal abuser.....but some calls i get are plain ridiculous and im sure plenty of straight up ballers can agree to as well

Dang 2K!

What's up with all loose ball turnovers?
Majority of the times I pass the ball to a cutter or in the paint my player (user) bobbles the ball off the CPU's body and it's a turnover 90% of the time.

It will hit off the CPU's face or body and of course my player goes into that I got shot in the back animation for a turnover. Rarely happens to the CPU though.

Can we get another patch that will fix all the glitches, freezing, passing, blocks (dunks also) non contact fouls please?

Madden, CoD, NCAA, etc.. does 3-5 updates to fix issues, can we get at least one more?

Yeah I am playing the Spurs with the Grizz and I can't get 1 off rebound yet the Spurs have 11 in the 1st half.

I wish I could upload the pic from my phone.

Yeah I understand why people would want to keep it the way it is because of the online cheese-rs and spammers. But, it created an imbalance when playing against the CPU offline. In My Career mode I'm fouling out of every game because I swipe at the ball once or twice a quarter and I get called for a foul each and every time. Has to be toned down just a bit.

I also don't understand why online and offline gameplay don't have their own sliders instead of effecting all modes that don't particularly need these fixes.

first game after patch i hit 12 3's with kyrie. (22 as a team). then after that game, i never hit a 3 again lol

reach in fouls definitely got buffed which is a plus. still, i miss getting those 'semi-reach in foul' animations. really puts a lot of pressure on the ball.

the annual "long range pass" patch is yet AGAIN over done. felton missed the inbound pass at the top of the key. smh

anyone else still getting brutalized on the boards?

the replay glitch isn't fixed for me.

next patch could we please get an option to remove sig skills from players?

and now that there's no VC for association (unless 12min) then can i get an option to turn off autosave? thanks. it's screwed me over 5 times already.

The first thing I did was just set everything up to for All star SIM no changes to any of the sliders. The game plays better overall.
  • The CPU pacing after the rebounds is much better.
  • 3pt sucess has definitely been tuned
  • There are more chances for blocks now
  • CPU reaction time has been changed to be a little bit more realistically at times when there is a loose ball. Not in all situations but you should notice this if the ball gets loose on the perimeter.
  • Reach in fouls are called much more I like this. I recommend all you steal spammers to adjust your game. Even though the ball is in your face unprotected you have to remember the ball is not "live" so you will need to do less reaching.
  • Rebounding is improved some but still seeing too much offensive boards grabbed by the CPU that they have no business getting. Especially for runs guards coming out of nowhere, ball warping to the CPU hand. I think the whole rebounding system needs to be reworked to be more random but that is not happening until 2K14 hopefully.
  • CPU now does much more jump passes in the paint. This is ok in theory but the CPU is warping too many passes through my players. I am seeing too many passes get to spaces they have no business going in traffic.
  • I did notice they did add more contact in the paint but much more is needed. There are certain layups that can't be blocked and of course the dunks can't be changed, or altered. It is like a forcefield around the players at certain times when the CPU drives to the paint and you have little resistance. Up and unders can very rarely create contact. The only way to insure contact is you need a double team in the paint.
  • It is too easy to dribble in the paint around multiple defenders again the ball is warping through players at times with players rarely having to pick up their dribble.
