NBA 2K13 News Post


The NBA 2K13 patch has arrived for PS3 and 360. The details on the patch haven't been released yet, but we'll update this post as soon as they are available.

UPDATE: NBA 2K13 Patch Details

GAMEPLAY
  • Improved AI rebounding logic to balance out offensive rebound frequency.
  • Tuned AI transition defense; users will now have more fast break opportunities against the CPU. Additionally, CPU teammates are now more able to guard their opponents on the break.
  • Long range passes are now less accurate and will result in more fumbled and missed catches.
  • Passing successfully out of a double team has been tuned to be slightly more difficult.
  • Tuned the logic behind Charging calls so that they are properly called. Charges will now sometimes be called when the defender is in position and stationary, even if he is not in the “Take Charge” animation.
  • Tuned timing on block animations, and made the AI more vigilant about blocking layups and dunks.
  • Improved reach-in foul detection when defender continually swipes at the ball, results in more called fouls where appropriate.
  • AI now only calls for a full court press in appropriate situations (i.e. late in the game).
  • Addressed two dunk animations that were not counting for a score when they were converted.
  • Fixed an issue where Replay would show the incorrect play, rather than what actually happened on the court.
  • AI positioning when running plays has been tuned so that big men with limited shooting range will not move further away from the basket than what their range allows.
  • AI teammates will now remain in the Post Up position longer when a Quick Post play is called for them.
  • Tuned alley-oop and putback dunks such that only players who have a high tendency to perform either move are able to finish with one.
  • Removed the restrictions for the ‘Microwave’ Signature Skill such that it now works regardless of whether you are already on a hot or cold streak.
  • When a block is recorded for a player with the ‘Eraser’ Signature Skill, only the shooting attributes of the blocked player are lowered.
  • Fixed a rare issue where a traveling violation would be called on a pass fake.
  • Referee Review on last shot will no longer play if the shot has no effect on the outcome of the game.
  • A number of other smaller changes have been made to address issues and enhance the user experience.
  • Tuned three-point percentage.
GENERAL
  • NIKEiD shoes will now appear properly in-game after being equipped to a player.
  • Addressed an issue where the game score would disappear in Blacktop games when Signature Highlights were viewed in the pause menu.
  • Fixed an issue where Free Throw Feedback would no longer appear in games after playing an Online MyTEAM game.
  • Addressed an issue in Online MyTEAM games where the away team player would have the Signature Skills of the home team player if identical players were used in the game by both players.
  • Music will no longer be disabled and Game Settings will no longer revert back to Default when completing an online game in MyTEAM.
  • Changed the difficulty settings for all of the seeds in MyTEAM.
  • (360) Addressed a Kinect issue where a misleading overlay would appear when a timeout was called through a voice command when no timeouts were remaining.
MyCAREER
  • Added additional warning re: conversion of an online MyCAREER (one that earns VC) to an offline MyCAREER (one that earns Skill Points).
  • Fixed an issue where the remainder of the user’s schedule would appear empty after participating in the various All-Star Weekend events. This change also carries over to Association/Season modes.
  • ‘Run Plays’ and ‘PlayVision’ should now function properly (when activated), regardless of your MyPLAYER’s position.
  • Fixed an issue where all games in October would be simulated when ‘Play Next Game’ is selected after the start of a new season.
  • Users playing MyCAREERs that accrue Skill Points will no longer find themselves with negative skill points after played games (where a number of unlikely conditions were all met).
  • Addressed a rare hang that would occur if the “Defend Your Home Court” billboard commercial would play between quarters of the Rising Stars Challenge or All-Star game.
  • Addressed a number of issues with the Social Media feature, including one where the news feed would stop updating completely.
  • When changing teams via free agency in the offseason, your MyPLAYER will now receive the proper role (starter, sixth man, etc.) that was promised during the contract negotiation.
  • You will no longer fail the Dynamic Goal “Give your team the lead before the game ends” when subbed out before the end of the game.
  • The Teammate Chemistry rating on the “Play Next Game” loading screen should now display the correct value (as seen in the Social Media menu).
  • The volume of the menu music and sound effects will no longer become extremely quiet after playing consecutive games in MyCAREER.
ASSOCIATION
  • 3PT Tendency progression logic has been rewritten to correctly model the growth variances within each player type in the game. This change also carries over to MyCAREER mode.
  • Users will no longer lose their Scouting Reports after viewing the Recent Games tab of a player card.
  • Birth years can now be set to later than 1993 when editing Draft Classes after the first season of Association.
  • Addressed a rare hang that would occur when attempting to participate in the Dunk Contest with a created player assigned to a created team.
  • (Association: Online) Offense and Defense options should now save properly when using the Total Sim Control feature.
  • (Association: Online) Admins will now have access to appropriate Commissioner Tools during the offseason.
NOTE: All patch fixes will work in your existing game mode saves (MyCAREER, Association, etc.).

Kills me that there still is no way to create contact on layups and dunks to prevent the animation from completing.

If it's really that hard for you to 'relearn' your shot, maybe you should go and find an easier one. Seriously. I ran a couple of games with a friend of mine and found no trouble in hitting 4-7 from the three point line. All it takes is good, smart ball movement and being able to move around off the ball.

Nowhere did 2k say Blacktop was meant to be the "NBA Jam" mode. Plus, it's still easy to dunk at will on people. Seriously, just play real basketball. It seems they want it to play more like a semi-realistic pick-up game, which this patch really helped do. Defense is more effective on Blacktop now, allowing the defensive signature skills to actually mean something.

It's a simulation basketball game. Try playing it like a real basketball game. This isn't MyPlayer on Pro settings where you can drop as many points as you can with such ease. That's cheap and boring if you ask me.. (and most likely 70% of other OS members.)

Hello guys,

maybe someone could help me by providing info where exactly I should upload downloaded patch file into my X-360 HDD? I don't have online access and my X-360 has been updated from "standard" to JTAG (RGH).
For example for rosters updates I use flash FXP soft I just drop file into appropriate folder.
So which "correct" folder should be for successful patch update?

I am a keen my Career player. this is not a big issue and im not whining....but will we have to hear our players nickname 80% of the time for the next year?

A little annoying trend since the patch is that i'm finding it impossible for me to hold the CPU under 50% shooting. in 4 games with various teams they have all shot over 50%.

Yes, and it's because while the arena announcer says your player's last name if it's one already pre-programmed, that's because the arena announcer is the same for all situations & game modes and paid only to read out the preloaded names and the NBA roster names. The announcers though (Kerr, Clark, and Kevin, as well as Doris Burke) are paid a lot of money for their commentary and 2k understandably isn't going to pay them all that extra money to record the names of countless preprogrammed last names when they could just record the 10 or 12 nicknames instead and save time and money.

It makes sense honestly.

I don't have that problem the announcers and the pa announcer says both my last name Mckenzie and nickname black hole 50-50 the lady says my nickname only but everybody else is 50-50 I like it

Why players pc version no longer need to wait for the patch. Just buy the game and have the same problems to tire. What did the patch in March, as the game I manage to get bored already ...

FOR ONLINE PLAYERS:

I play exclusively online and I must say THERE IS HARDLY ANYTHING DIFFERENT in gameplay after the patch dropped!

I stopped playing ranked matches altogether because of the cheese and knowing it was set on the PRO difficulty and just focused on our sim league just to get a good clean game in. I recently started playing ranked matches again bc my subs liked seeing me beat the 95% of cheese heads you come across in quick matches, and I wanted to get a feel of the bs in the gameplay before the patch dropped so I can really feel the difference after they released the patch.

The Good:
The spamming of the steal button is NO MORE! They upped the foul calls so on almost every steal attempt you will get the foul call. What I don't like about this however is if you're not the type that pounds the X button (or square for ps3) and stay disciplined on D, you still get fouls called against you because the damn cpu will do all the reaching for you! And sorry to say but this is all that's good about the patch...

The UGLY!!!

1. 3's are back with a vengeance and it seems like it's gotten WORSE. I have played with almost every different type of team and play style from the Lakers to the Bobkittens and it's all the same! Jamal Crawford, Barganini, Terrance Ross, Harrison Barnes all the way down to Steve Blake just to name a few are RayAllenReggieMillerSteveKerrMarkPrice all rolled in to one DEADLY type shooters. It's just sad.

2. Offensive Rebounding is just...I played against the Celtics using the Pacers and I swear Jason Terry kept tipping the ball in the air over Hibbert grabbing 4 offensive rebounds in ONE possession and I will just leave it at that.

3. You are damn near helpless going against Lebron, Kobe, Melo (who is worst than Kobe) ect. so don't bother giving yourself a headache going against any of these superstars because if you don't know how to play the most effective defense using different adjustments and strategies as you go, don't even bother.

4. The sh!t is STILL on PRO!!!
Ronnie2k said the game starts off on pro to cater to the casuals but one of the changes they make when working on the patch is upping the difficulty but this clearly hasn't happened.

If you play online and a Sim head like myself your best bet is to do what I've done and start or join a sim league that caters best to your play style and leave the ranked matches to the virgin money tourney players because it's rare you get a decent game...im jus sayin.

People have been exploiting Coach Mode since launch, so my guess is turning on Coach Mode at any time during the game disables the ability to get VC for that game.

Now, if you played the whole game start to finish with the controller in your hands, and still didn't get it...yeah, that is a problem.

Yeah I play the today games manually I don't do coach mode...

My impressions:

+ Rebounding now works as it should.Boxing out is effective.
+ Cpu fast breaks now are more realistic both in numbers and flow.
+ D is improved especially in the paint.Contact is better (it's easy to see this because in my sliders I had the contact layup values at 100 - now it's back to sim values).
+ Help D is significally improved (moved back the specific slider at sim value).
+ Blocks are increased and the timing is better.
+ Number of fouls is increased, especially reach-in fouls.
+ Noticed new animations and on-the-fly camera cutscene in blocking fouls.
+ PiP are reduced but not so much (tweaks still needed).
+ Court-to-court passes are more realistic.
+ 3pt tendecies in Association are finally fixed.

- The cpu still abuses the paint. Slider tweak is required: Backdoor cuts for cpu at 0 is highly recommended. For now I left Attack The Basket at default but it needs more testing.
- Run plays bug in coach profiles is still not fixed. It's backwards again.So if you want the cpu to run more plays you need to even set the slider at 0 or calculate the difference from 100 (example: if the slider for a team is 75, change it to 25. If it is 95, set it to 5 etc).
- Cpu shot success is increased. Slider tweaking easily fixes that. (Playing on All-Star)
- Some questionable flash passes by cpu (Anyone remember that slider? It was removed after 2k11 if I'm not mistaken)

Blocking is still ineffective in this game (I even have 100 blocking in sliders).

Why the hell does your defensive player try to block with their opposite hand where the ball should be going???? Example, If opposition goes for layup to your right, your defensive player tries to block with their left hand. Also when the offensive player is going for a straight line layup and you're right in front, your defensive player doesn't go straight up, they kinda jump sideways then try to block.....I mean WHAT THE F**K 2K!!!!????!!!!???

This sucks I was planning on farming VC so I could start new my career with new patch, plus there are great rosters out now. And I actually play the games 11minute quarters, no coach mode farming. Might start playing association now or more halo 4.

Had so much fun playing quick games stopped me from jumping into association.

2k creates a new basketball gamem releases a patch and people could still hit fadeaway 3s glitches online. WTF 2ksports. Can you fix this? So i can enjoy the game.

IMO It IS effective. I've seen many shot,layup blocks in my first play after the update. Just give it some time

i don't know about dunks but you can certainly do it on layups

The terrific bug in Draft in Association mode is not been fixed !!!
The player with the best overall will be choose on 20 / 25th pick...
