REDWOOD CITY, Calif., - October 19, 2010 – Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS), announced that EA SPORTS™ MMA is available in stores throughout North America starting today and will launch worldwide beginning October 22 and in Japan on November 11. EA SPORTS MMA, offering the most authentic, intense and broadest mixed martial arts experience to date, allows players to travel the world and learn a multitude of fighting techniques and skills. The game features a vast array of world-class fighters, and players can extend their gaming experience online through a first-of-its-kind feature - EA SPORTS Live Broadcast.

Fighters can further showcase their MMA skills to the world through EA SPORTS Live Broadcast in which players can create their own fighter and then produce a hype video to get noticed by an actual EA SPORTS promoter. Once selected by the EA SPORTS promoter, players will be able to have their fight broadcast online through EA SPORTS Live Broadcast, while a live commentator calls every move made during the fight. Moreover, each EA SPORTS Live Broadcast fight can be viewed on game consoles or online via the web.

“EA SPORTS MMA is the most immersive and authentic mixed martial arts experience available, bringing together great fighters, opportunities to train and fight internationally and features that allow players to prove their skills online to a wide audience,” said EA SPORTS MMA Executive Producer Dale Jackson. “EA SPORTS is excited to bring this highly anticipated title to mixed martial arts fans and help grow the popularity of the sport worldwide.”

EA SPORTS MMA provides the definitive mixed martial arts experience, featuring multiple disciplines, rule sets, locations and fighters from all over the world. Players can fight in a ring, hexagonal or circular cage, and the MMA environment comes to life with ring girls, corner men and referees. Ring announcer Jimmy Lennon Jr. provides fighter introductions while Big John McCarthy officiates fights and MMA legend Frank Shamrock and commentator Mauro Ranallo call the action.

Through career mode, fighters will be able to train in locations around the world with legends of the sport such as Randy Couture, Pat Miletich, Rickson Gracie and Bas Rutten, visiting gyms in Japan, Brazil, Thailand and the U.S. While training internationally, players will teach their fighter new skills as they rise up the ranks to make it to one of the biggest stages in MMA – STRIKEFORCE.

Other key features within EA SPORTS MMA include:
  • Fighter Share – Players can put themselves into the world of MMA training and fighting and begin the quest to become a champion. They can upload photos of themselves and use Photo Game Face to create their own, personalized roster of fighters. Display and share these create-a-fighters via Fighter Share by uploading and browsing other created fighters. In addition, through Fighter Share players can download and try out any fighters created by the passionate EA SPORTS MMA community.
  • Customize Your Own Fight Card – Become a promoter and set up a night of fights with your friends. With the ability to host four fights per card with up to 10 people connected*, players can challenge each other to fights, and talk trash while friends provide commentary to the fight.
  • Total Strike Control – Through an intuitive control system for striking, elbow, knees and kicks, players can go on the offensive with Total Strike Control, providing the utmost flexibility for their fighters. EA SPORTS MMA also provides the flexibility for those who prefer fighting using face buttons with the Classic Control scheme.
Sherdog MMA Fighter Exchange Program brought to you by EA SPORTS MMA

Announced on October 11, EA SPORTS will be sponsoring the Sherdog MMA Fighter Exchange program, which mirrors EA SPORTS MMA’s career mode where young fighters travel the globe to learn various martial arts disciplines.

The program gives four up-and-coming fighters the opportunity to learn new fighting techniques and disciplines while training with STRIKEFORCE MMA superstars that appear in EA SPORTS MMA. Two North American fighters will train in Japan and Brazil under the tutelage of Luke Rockhold and Jason “Mayhem” Miller, while two international fighters, will be mentored by Gegard Mousasi and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza in the U.S.

Sherdog.com will provide a behind-the-scenes look throughout the fight camps with blog and video coverage of the fighters. After weeks of training, the four fighters will make their STRIKEFORCE debut, as an undercard, during the December 4 fight featuring Dan Henderson vs. Renato “Babalu” Sobral, which will be streamed online by Sherdog.com.

EA SPORTS MMA will be available on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system, the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, the iPhone® and iPod® touch.

All you have to do is win the sub battle to unlock the armbar, so just finish without gassing.

I had a hook spammer tell me I suck because I repeatedly took him down. I told him he was terrible because at least most no skill hook button mashers still know how to sprawl. He couldn't do that. He claimed he wasn't but Noone with tsc was comboing hooks together the way he did. Felt good to beat one of them suckers.

I haven't had the misfortune of facing a button spammer yet thank god. Way to kick his @$$ though. Stupid spammers

I love fighting guys that spam hooks. I can parry most hooks, but even if you cant parry, a good jab stuffs them... Once you get momentum if they keep spamming you can own them with thought out combos (I also will sometimes clinch them after I parry, you will get a knee off then let go and work em).

Lesnar is the equivalent of a button spammer. You gotta calmly weigh through them use skill and pick em apart. I have only lost to one of those guys when they are Fedor and manage a flash KO. Otherwise my record is perfect against them.

You have more respect from me than almost every game company representative on OS. Not only do you know your game, you know the sport itself.

it's not move unlock.. it's arm sub level 2 to build up your attributes and it says you have to get them in armbar, starts you in full mount with no where to go.

I love that. It's crazy how they start complaining because you stop them. Just shows you how lame they really are.

the problem is off of your parry if they take fedor or custom fighter or anyone with high range and speed is if they use the button controls the parry doesnt screw up timing they can continue with a right if the left was parried no problem or with a left if the right was parried no problem. if these were jabs and crosses being parried it wouldnt be as big of a deal, but with power punches like hooks, the spamers should be forced to have the animation reset before the commencement of the spam, as it stands now, trying to parry and counter one of the numbskulls is actually leading to the opposite hand of the one that was parried getting there first and countering and rocking you. this is where the imbalance comes in. I dont care about how fast they can put combos together as long as with power punches a successful parry disrupts said combo. this is only an issue with classic control users, if the opponent is using total strike, the parry does interrupt them. a guy who goes by the handle "xix Fate xix" on ea's forums actually posted a video of this with the parries doing nothing to disrupt the combo

I don't know what to tell ya. It's the exact same parry animation, I have no problem stuffing these guys with repeated cross, body shot, headshot, whatever. You just get that one parry and you will have time for a jab or cross before they can hit you again. (maybe you aren't letting go of block?) I don't know. I honestly fight these guys all the time and really love to wreck them.

I will admit if it's Fedor, it's not as easy, I usually try to dash out of his range and head kick him right after I parry Fedor. Or parry and immediately clinch him, rock him with a knee (if they don't ease up on buttons I just keep hammering them with knees). Fedor's strikes are not as deadly in clinch and ground and guys with buttons have a very large disadvantage in clinch and ground game.

thats the thing its usually fedor, or a custom fighter with maxed out hand speed and range, i think lengthening the recovery time slightly on power shots that are parried in the patch would fix the problem. and make them have to reset then throw, not just branch in the next punch animation off after having a hook parried.

QUESTIONS, one which has the biggest community for this game ps3 or 360? how do you do the different transitions when you are on the ground? i know it said to click in the r3 button to do submission but why is it when i do it,it never works?

Got my copy today so I'll post some quick impressions along with a couple questions I have. Online, I'm a little disappointed that there's no option for unranked fights. I'd like to be able to get some practice in before ruining my record (even though it's too late for that now lol). Fight cards seem to be the only option for unranked matches. Not a big deal I guess, but would have been nice to include that option for quick matches.

As far as the gameplay goes I'm very impressed, against a skilled opponent you can really see a good chess match taking place, which is my favorite aspect of the game. Honestly though when standing (outside of the clinch) stamina seems pretty irrelevant to me. Which is the number one thing that allows for spamming, if your landing punches your guy won't tire out which is unrealistic. Also, punch and kick totals are far outside of a realistic range in general. Stamina needs to have a bigger impact through the course of an entire fight. Meaning if I throw 100 punches in round 1, I should be sucking wind for the rest of the fight.

Overall, the game would be a lot more strategic if stamina played a bigger factor in the striking game.

Secondly, I should be able to block when I'm getting hit, if I'm not stunned. Once a spammer starts unloading on you the game won't let you bring your guard up and I don't understand why that is. Sure make my guard less effective, but don't stop me from being able to get it up in those situations.

If those two things are addressed this game will be a true winner.

Now the question I have is how do you block to the body? Standing and on the ground? Also any tips on defending the choke subs would be a great help as well, I haven't won a single battle yet.

thx

Not even 2 days since I've got the game, I had fun while playing the solo mode (completed the career mode once) and did a few fights in Fight Now against the AI but I'm now thinking I'm going to go and sell the game or exchange it (I didn't use the online code pass, just did the free trial)

The online is always the same, people always pick the best fighters, my last 4 fights were against bass rutten classic, who can take a beating like there's no tomorrow : knocked him down twice in a round and he completly recovered only to KO punch me later on.

I actually don't mind losing but fighting the same people using the same fighters and fighting strategies gets quite stale.

For what it's worth I enjoyed a lot more this game than UFC2010 which didn't get a lot of playtime from me either.

I do hope they'll do an MMA 2 cause if they build on the first one it could truly be a great fighting/mma game.

EDIT : I also think they should have locked the online to total punch control, like someone else said on this board you cannot evade/dodge Fedor spamming straight punches.

What's up? I was wondering if anyone can give me some pointers on wearing down the comp?

Well after getting a PS3 copy of the game, which was supposed to be the Xbox 360 copy for $35 I was pretty upset and contacted the seller who apologized like crazy begging for me to let him make it up to me. Low and behold someone is knocking at my door and it is the mailman with a package. This guy sent me a copy for the 360, overnight I might add. He never gave me a tracking # or anything. It just showed up!!!!

I was so floored by this rare kindness that I paypaled the guy another $35 just for him taking responsibility for the original mistake. Basically I got 2 copies for $70 when I really got 2 for $35. What a way to take care of your customer and it's also good to know "GOOD PEOPLE" still exist on this earth.

I hear ya. To add to that no one seems to fight at the lower weight levels, it takes forever to find a match below MW, if you're lucky enough to find one at all.

That was real nice of that guy to do that ... and also nice of you to pay him when you really didn't owe him anything.

Are you going to keep both copies? I could take the PS3 version off your hands

My guy at Gamestop said I could trade it straight across for another game/store credit so I think I am gonna take it and either get Fable 3 or save the credit. My 7 year old wants a DS for X-mas so I might do apply the credit to that.
