Like someone already said, this reminds me of ESPN NFL Football (2K4). A solid base and a good effort to build on...but how does it play? That's one question that still needs to be answered.
Looks decent but not as good as 2k7 so it's step down 2 years later which ISN'T good. Looks to play better than 2k8 but seems to have the hiccup from 2k7 but not the hiccup from 2k8.

SO...If i had to start saying what's right about 2k9 it would be by breaking down the game this way.

It looks like....

Graphics - 2K8 (minus the better color palette and better advertisements)
Gameplay - 2K7
Framerate - 2k7
Commentary - 2K9
Presentation - 2K9

odd

Khalil Green does have a strong arm though, so he could get it over there like that.

This looks quite a bit better than 2K8. For instance, the grass in 2K8 was basically painted on (and neon green), so this grass looks much more realistic. Also the rest of the stadium looks better too, as well as the players themselves.

This has been in the game since 2K5, and somehow it went right by me because it's one of my biggest concerns (that is, ball-grass physics as well as lack of air friction). I think it's because I'm so accustomed to it in these games that it just felt standard to me.

Definitely a big no-no. This is part of the reason that balls down the line are never automatic doubles, and is the excuse many people give for "rocket arms."

Agreed 100%!!!! After the mess called 2K8 and the 2K7 OTB problems as well, they need to throw us a bone here. I could live with a $40 price point, like NBA 2k9. Regardless of price, this is still a rent and see game for me.............with the previous disappointing games in the series driving that

Dude, are you serious............2K8's graphics better than 2K9?? Or am I just misreading this?? Maybe we played two different versions of 2K8.....LOL

I know everybody is entitled to their opinion but this comment is a real head scratcher for me

The immersion is huge for me, and the "real world" looks like it is going to deliver on that aspect. As far as the bat sounds and other little quirks, it's just not an issue for me. Its a video game, and I just want to have fun playing it. I understand that these may be big for some, and I respect that, but they are just minor to me.

For the first time in 3 years, I feel like I will not have to defend or explain why I enjoy the 2k baseball game. Maybe if I only had a 360, I might have a different point of view, but for now, I am very happy with what I have seen from the small examples of what we have been shown.
Well said Bluengold!! I agree with you in that I want a decent playable game as a second option to The Show. Would be nice to mix it up some. Like you, I can look past the minor things in 2K9 as long as the game delivers a fun experience and has a problem free online component.

The "other game" has me really concerned in the area of online performance. I just dont have a lot of confidence that they have corrected the issues from last year. BUT I HOPE I'M WRONG ABOUT THAT!! Would be nice to get into a few online leagues this year (on both games)

Can somebody post the video here? For some reason I can't watch videos or enlarge pics on this site.

Is there another site where I can see the video?

I am in LOVE. Game looks very playable. Certainly needs some work (you can see it already) but WOW... looks really damn cool.

Next year could be something special but the foundation seems to be there!

I just LOVE LOVE LOVE the delay in camera change after the ball goes into the play. Freakin' fantastic.

Yeah I noticed that too Theriot didn't have a stance Neither did Shumaker etc... but with 300 sig styles I'm sure we can find some stances for them.

# 56 HK-47 @ 02/13/09 03:48 PM
James Loney didin't have his stance in the other video either.

Which 300 players did they focus on?The Rob Quinlan types?

Haha Yeah I was gonna mention Loney and Kemp as well. I'm not sure probably some of teh big name players they didn't have in last year probably. EXAMPLE: Longoria, Carlos Pena etc.... But don't worry I know a few stances to use from last year on the players seen in the videos without a sig style.

Yeah Hoos, my concerns are right there with you on the "other" games on line ability. I am hoping that we see something similar as far as leagues go, that we have seen in NBA 2k9. I am still in my 3rd league with the same group of guys really( Kodiak, Auburn Alum, Stewatt, Roch, Ruff, JohnDoe, bornindamecca) and half of the reason we still play this game is because the coolness that is the on line support and leagues website.

I did have a question...twice now I have either read or heard that this is last year for MLB 2k9....( I just heard and saw it with my own eyes in the in house video that EB plays in their stores.

Does anyone have any insight to this, I have a hard time beleiving that EB made this big of a mistake in their own in house video???

For those complaining about the bat noises upon contact not being varied I'd say you're wrong. Some of you were saying that it affects gameplay because sometimes the sound of the bat is all you need to hear to know whether you got "good wood" on the ball or not. I agree that it can be a very viceral part of the batting experience.

I would point those people to the double play portion of the vid where Theriot does not get good wood on the ball and instead pounds the ball into the ground for the double play. When you hear the sound of the bat, not only is that a DIFFERENT sound from the usual complaints some of you have had about the bat sounding like a kendo stick, but it actually sounds like he didn't get good wood on the ball.

I think some people are giving 2K7 a little TOO much credit. The graphics in 2K7 definitely jumped out at you, but the overall gameplay wasn't all that mind-blowing. I'd definitely take the pitching and hitting mechanics used from 2K8 on over what 2K7 offered, and as far as the graphics went, a lot of the graphical features they added to that game were pretty unrealistic (the extreme bloom effect which was very unnatural).

Not to mention the fact that 2K7 was at 30 fps as apposed to 2K9 which is 60 fps. I don't even know how you could compare the two framerate-wise knowing that information. To say that 2K8 had the better graphics is a little questionable considering most would agree the game is probably the most graphically DOWNGRADED of the three recent iterations 2K has produced.

MLB 2K9 seems to just have much more natural and believable color schemes for the environment, unis and skin textures. I think VC went with a more "simple" visual presentation with this game similar to what they did with NBA 2K9, and I think everything just looks more natural and better because of that.
