Madden 2010 News Post

This week we are starting to go through the rosters and tune each individual player's body to match their real life counter part.

I know as a fan when one of your favorite players is wrong it can take you out of the experience.

So the question to you is: Which players need the most work? Please give specifics. On the flip side are there any players you wouldn't touch?

Thanks as always,

Mike Y

Also more cleats and gloves options would be beneficial. I think the message is clear: we want expanded player customization options. Players who play your game long-term are much more drawn to the customization aspect, so making sure this particular aspect is up to par will be beneficial to all. Take for example Pro Evolution Soccer's player editor, and make it pervasive.

A gazillion of options = good. More cleats, helmets, gloves, shirt styles, pant styles etc. And making it easily changeable as per the user, at all times.

Tnx for reading. At least consider some of our ideas for implementation. I'm close to buying a new playstation3, and may just be drawn to your game again if the customization aspects is up to par. (not to mention the rest of the elements of the game, such as the line officials measuring a 4th-and-inches, cheerleaders, halftime shows, etc.)

The key to all of this is putting the FULL EDITOR in for us users.
And also allowing us to edit players on every team during a Franchise.
I dont wanna edit ratings (as much) after a franchise starts, but I wanna be able to Edit Names, Jersey Numbers, and All of the Body Specific Physical Attributes of Every Player on Every Team.
Great point! Just make sure that it doesn't erase their draft information in the process. Off topic, I don't know if this happens to everyone, but when I edit the jersey numbers and equipment on players I can no longer see their draft selection information (just says free agent). I hate that so much, to the point that I try not even adjusting these things.

Oh yeah. I don't remember editing anyone's ratings the past couple of years, but the last time I did, changing their ratings changed their salary. If this hasn't already been removed from the game, PLEASE DISCONNNECT THE RATINGS & SALARIES FOR EXISTING PLAYERS. When we edit ratings, it's because we disagree with your ratings, not the salary.

Terrell Owens is a bit too small in the game, IMO.

That's all I got right now.

Does anyone at EA realize that the Manning brothers have had the wrong facemasks for the last 4 years in a row? I'm neither a Colts or Giants fan, but if I was having to adjust this every year would bug the hell out of me.

stop putting wristbands on linemen and use the tape....what lineman wears wristbands.....matter of fact who wears them at all except for qb's

# 107 seriousluboy83 @ 02/09/09 01:43 PM
get the new helmets and all facemasks too......more options and customations.....ex. body type: average/muscular/large/larger/skinny.....more glove and cleat/ helmet variations with all facemasks......just making sure ya'll heard me the 1st time

Donovan McNabb is BALD now - you might want to update his Face-Card in the game with his new smooth-glow bald head, instead of that mini-fro he had.

General Comments:
I agree with the posters on here that say that a full-body editor should be added to the feature set. BUT I wan to also stress that is is still VERY important that the team gets the players looking as accurate as possible for the default rosters. Reason being, when playing online games, we are forced to use the systems roster and settings, so we can end up modifying all of these players on our own local rosters, but once go online...

Specific Comments:
I mainly use the Redskins when playing, so I can comment on them the best.

Jason Campbell

Any way to add this "half-sleeve" look to the accessories. Currently there is a "half-sleeve" for the bottom half of the arm, but not the top.
Also, he's a bit slim overall, in the game. If his bulk could be upped just a bit overall, that would be great.

Mike Sellers

This dude is a BIG imposing monster of a football player (6'3" 284), yet on the game, he is not nearly as imposing looking. he basically looks like another tailback, very close in size to their back-up HB, Ladell Betts. As you can see in the following photo his size in relation to the rest of the Redskins backs...

Anyway to get this helmet in the game?

One other item I'd like to address is the glove/accessory color. We normally get blac/white/team color as options. Any way to get a secondary team color in for those accessories. Mostly for gloves and bands, as I believe there are restrictions for the shirt sleeves, not sure though.

Just for example, the Skins have the White/Black/Burgundy option, can there shade of Gold, be added to the color tree?

Thanks for coming here and asking for feedback, by the way. It is much appreciated!

Peace.

I'm all for refining the gameplay and making it the most realistic experience possible but there's another part of the real NFL which really makes it fun and attracts me to watching it too. It's the personalities, the drama, and just players and teams getting notoriety around the league and in the media. Adding some of this is what would give this game some life. I know there's been some efforts here and there but to me it needs more life added to it. It just doesn't feel alive like it's lacking a heartbeat. I liked the radioshow from the dynasty mode a couple years back. Stuff like that gave the game more life. I just have a hard time playing a game that feels repetitive and yes, lifeless.

I think I might have just posted in the wrong thread....

1. Much of the lineman are very large in the NFl. Make lineman have bellys and d lineman as well. I.E. Vince Wilford has a huge belly.

Jevon Kearse has freakishly long arms and big hands - would be cool to see that! I would guess he stands to feature in the Titans D again next season significantly enough to get some attention.

Not sure if it has been mentioned yet, but Kevin Williams looks too fat to me. In general, the league's top DT's could probably all use a good look at for accuracy as 300lb's of person can take a lot of forms, mostly not seen in Madden 09.

A lot of TE's look too skinny.

Some S's don't look bulky enough, like Sanders. Ditto for RB's.

Would be good to see proper dreads and hair like Troy P's, and a really strong effort to include all facemasks and accessoried like those top half sleeves mentioned before. Your coverboy Matt Ryan should fuel that as I think he wears them (did I guess right? lol).

Finally, could we possibly get a body editor like that in the old Madden? You could change a lot in that.

Wr's like Owens,Fitgerald,Boldin need to be a bit more thicker.

Some Dt's like Vince Wilfork/Casey Hampton need to look bigger (as in take up more space on the field)

As for the 49ers (my team)

Frank Gore- is not called the "Tank" for nothing. He has a thick bottom half and is very squared up top.

Vernon Davis- is a big Athletic body type kinda like T.O. but a tad thicker (not the current fat look in 09)

Patrick Willis- Is a Smaller Athletic sized LB---looks almost fat in 09. Or his shoulders are to wide that makes him look off.

Michael Lewis/Nate Clements- Should be a bit thicker and stronger looking. They both had a skinny looking body in 09.

Im so glad things like this are asked cause it does wonders for the game. I think of Nba2k9 and how well they make players resemble there real life counter parts. It makes you feel like you are really controlling that player. Keep up the great work guys

Ian, are we going to get an answer on whether or not mouthguards/hand warmers/towels are going to be in 10 or not? And while on that topic, let us place the towel in front/left side/right side/or back a la Hines Ward, and perhaps the option to layer that, like a towel under a hand warmer. Towel width sizes should an option as well, some players only have a strip, while some use the full width.

Also, how about letting us pick whatever color of the shoe we want. If a back has taped ankles, more times than not the team color on the front shell of the shoe shows. Mouthguards, again, multiple/all team color choices should be available. Same with gloves, don't limit our color choices to a few per team. Of course eye black, and how about one of the choices in eye black looks like the Mueller logo, make it say Madden or something in a similar style. Breathe right strips should be multiple colors as well. And to echo another user, those tight under armor half-sleeves that stick out from the jersey should be added. Just look at photos of Matt Ryan and A.J. Hawk to see what I'm talking about.

If you want Arizona Cardinal equipment and accessories adjustment help, I definitely can assist with that.

In general, most players look skinner and moe frail than they should. But on to the Cardinal players.....

+ Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan should be a bit thicker and muscular. Especially looking at the Super Bowl Madden commerical, they look to have the same build as Santonio Holmes. Boldin should be built more like an RB.

+ Larry Fitzgerald and Tim Hightower's dreadlocks are not as pronounced as they should be.

+ Adrian Wilson isn't as jacked as he should be.

+ Darnell Dockett is clearly not the fat tub of lard you portray him to be. Here is Dockett in all his beastly splendor:

Here is how you portray him in the game :

I'd say that there needs to be a bigger difference in body type between the really huge, run stuffing DTs (Wilfork, Rogers, Hampton, P. Williams, J. Williams) and the leaner, quicker DTs (Harris, Dockett, Sedrick Ellis).

# 118 MBash721 @ 02/10/09 12:12 AM
I agree with some of the DTs, especially Darnell Dockett. That was one of my biggest pet peeves in the game this year.

Above all else, and this has probably already been said somewhere in this thread, the problem is that there simply isn't enough variety amongst players in terms of height, weight, and proportions. Lineman are too small, skill-position players are too big. Wide receivers, running backs, QB's, and DB's all have the same body type in the game, whereas in real life receivers tend to be thinner in the middle and more lanky, running backs tend to be have much more built limbs, QB's are typically more top-heavy, and DB's are more balanced with slightly bigger torso's and very long legs, in general.

My addition/suggestion I guess is Hair. I tried to go through each post and see if anyone brought it up, and didn't see much, if any. So I'll talk about it.

Dreadlocks are usually in a few different styles. While most players let em loose:

In the game they tend to just stay in a ponytail form. Even just guys with long hair, its usually just loose. So I think in ADDITION to have long hair in a ponytail, we should be able to have it just hang. I also think Polamalu deserves his very own hair. Don't ya think?

Also, will we be seeing the most accessory filled Madden to date? Updated cleats(Nike, Reebok, Adidas, Under Armour all in low/mid/high variations), gloves, sleeves in certain lengths, team colored cleats, Mouth pieces, hand warmers, towels, different sock lengths, eye black(different forms worn thick, think, and crazy John Randle styled stuff), Improved visors(NCAA has MUCH better visors than Madden) Updated helmet styles & Facemasks, Jersey sleeves worn loose, tucked in, practically non existent lol, etc...

I really hope so. These things might not matter to a lot of people, but I guarantee a good percent of the Hardcore players would gladly welcome these things.
