I have never played rocket league before, and I just downloaded it since it's free this weekend, am I able to play co-op with two other users against three other online people ranked or is it only private match or going into a session and hoping that you get matched up with them

Pretty sure you can play co-op online.

You can play the 'standard' ranked class if you want to play 3v3 with only 2 of you... you'll get teamed up with a random to make your 3
