What is the best way to play NBA 2k16 myLeague right now?

I'm about to start a myLeague save with my favorite NBA team ever (2015-16 Detroit Pistons) on NBA 2k16. It's my favorite 2k ever between the gameplay, soundtrack and atmosphere. This year's edition doesn't do it for me.

Is there anything I can do to make my experience better even though the servers are down? Or is my only option to run the game vanilla and play with sliders?

I'd welcome some suggestions.

2k16 was not heavily modded, but still, play on PC so you can use mods. Also learn to mod somewhat so you can create what you need as you go along.

I just went back to 2k14 on Xbox 360, since they ruined 2k23 with Patches. I am loving the CPU AI on 2k14.
