Re: Most strikeouts in a game
15, and that was with the best pitcher in the game. I think it probably has to do with the yellow bar being heavily reduced from the last version I played (08) where pitching poorly gave you the tiny sliver of yellow which is now normal in MLB 10: The Show. -
Re: Most strikeouts in a game
14 with Greinke in one of my earlier exhibition games I played when the game first came out. Most I have ever gotten in franchise mode with my set sliders and everything is 8 by Greinke.Comment

Re: Most strikeouts in a game
What skill level do you guys play on were you get 10 or more strikeouts? I played 08 on HoF difficulty and getting double digets in strikeouts is too hard! The CPU would foul off pitched it had no buisness making contact on. It has since gotten better.Comment

Re: Most strikeouts in a game
I let the CPU call the game for me and find that I get more strikeouts when I shrug off the CPU (with 2 strikes, they call for breaking stuff way too much) and try to pick corners with fastballs. Sometimes the API calls for too many fastballs with 2 strikes, too, which is when I throw the soft stuff. Basically, with 2 strikes, and API on, do the opposite of whatever it's telling you. Not all the time of course.
The key is to think along with the catcher and throw varying speeds with your fastballs (you should have 3 levels if youre using the meter for pitching. 1 in the yellow, 1 in the red and 1 full blast). I always start off with the slowest, trying to pick corners, and save the full-blast for 2-strike-counts. Also, if you're going to throw a fastball out of the zone then you should always be throwing it slower than full-blast. Save the big boy for when you're trying to pick corners with 2 strikes. You'll miss more often and probably walk a few more batters than you'd like, but any time it's on the corner it'll be a K 90% of the time.
An example of a sequence I'll throw:
1st pitch: slider, curve, something off-speed, strike 1
2nd pitch: yellow bar fastball, on the corner, strike 2
3rd pitch: yellow bar fastball, outside of the zone, ball 1
4th pitch: full blast fastball, on a corner, strike 3
You can basically do whatever you want with pitch 4 but for the most part the cpu is expecting something off-speed.
Here's something I was wondering though. Are there any ratings a catcher has that would influence the success a pitcher has? i.e. the ability to "call" a good game. Clutch is the only rating I can think of that might have an effect, but I doubt it.Last edited by The House; 03-21-2010, 11:49 AM.Comment

Re: Most strikeouts in a game
I got 16 last night with Andy Pettite of all pitchers. CG win too 99 pitches.Originally posted by Anthony BourdainThe celebrity chef culture is a remarkable and admittedly annoying phenomenon.
