EA UFC/WMMA 5 Universe Mode Tutorial

So instead of mixing the tutorial in with the other WMMA therad, I decided to start a new one. That way people can discuss the game without my tutorial getting in the way

Here is part one of the my WMMA FAQ/Tutorial:

Is this a replacement for a franchise mode? No. The way to look at using WMMA 5 with UFC 3 is WMMA is a record database/injury generator/matchmaking software.

Why cant I use it as a franchise mode replacement? Well, WMMA5 isnt built to be a companion piece to UFC 3. Its is its own game. The issue is that there is no way to control who wins (or how they win) in a game save unless you know how to hex edit a save. So if you play a game in UFC 3 and McGregor wins but when you run the sim and Diaz wins, your save now doesn’t reflect what happened.

So is using the WMMA straight forward and easy? Nope, it’s a bit of work but its absolutely worth it. Career mode for UFC3 is straightforward and frankly gets boring after the first few times. Using WMMA will allow you to not only utilize the entire roster but it adds depth to the game that isn’t there.

Setup:
1. Buy WMMA and go to the Grey Dog Software forums (WMMA 5 Mods section)

2. Download the Modern Warriors 3 mod (.http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum...d.php?t=542635). This mod has a thousands of real life fighters and organizations.

3. Start the game and click on the database icon (icon looks like a barrel) and select the MW 3 mod

4. Click on the Edit Database icon (looks like a pen writing on a pad and is right below the database icon.)

a. Go to the Characters section and using the Mass Delete function all of the fighters who are not in UFC 3 (Deselecting each UFC fighter can take a while)

b. Do the same for any other information you want. If you want to make it so that the UFC is the only org in your Universe, Mass Delete the rest of them. Same goes for past fight events or past fights.

c. Make sure that the fighters in the game are in signed to the UFC and in the right weight classes.

5. Once you have the database the way you want it, you are ready to start using the game.

Getting Started:

So Ill explain this by detailing how I do it. You don’t have to go into the lengths that I do but the way I do it results in more depth. So lets say you are starting a new universe today:

1. You are going to have to manage 2 saves. Start with one called “July 2020”.

a. Every new save requires that you book your first card no sooner than 1 month from the start of the game so if your game starts in June, you wont be able to run your first card until the first week of July.

2. Go into the Match Making section of the game and start to book fights:

Matchmaking rules: If you really want to make matchmaking challenging here are my rules:

i. No means No: If a fighter refuses a fight, I don’t offer them the same fight again EVEN if they are willing to fight if I pay them more. The only exception is if you are looking to book a short notice replacement fighter.

ii. Don’t book fighters until they are 100% healthy.

Re: EA UFC/WMMA 5 Universe Mode Tutorial

Ok….so you have just set up your cards for the month and you are ready to get going, right? Well here comes the hard part. So, here is what I’m going to do. I’m going to show you an easy way and a hard way (in bold). The easy way is for people who are OK without all the depth the game can provide. The hard way provides all the depth but requires a lot more legwork from the player.

Freeze the Fighters
: One thing you need to remember is that you have 2 saves and a database. So you have booked all of your fights in July in the “July 2020” save BUT those fights aren’t reflected in the second save “August 2020” or the database. For example, let’s say you book Conor in July against Diaz. Your July save will have Conor and Diaz booked….but August 2020 wont. So you run the risk of accidently booking them for an August fight too.

The way to avoid that is after you have booked your July card, go to your database and use the Pre-game Incidents section. Click on “Add”, select the fighter, under incident type choose “Fighter on Hiatus” and choose 2 mos. This will insure that those fighters are not available in your August 2020 sim.

Start your sim: Advance (arrow button on the left menu) until you get to your first card. If someone is injured, you can replace them with any available fighter or cancel the fight.

(Hard Way: If someone is injured, they have to be replaced. Sometimes you will see a fighter that drops out of a fight 3 weeks from now but he is only injured for a week. Under these rules, that fighter CANNOT fight on that card. If he drops out, he drops out.)

Run the card: You don’t have to watch the fights…because the results of the fights don’t matter. Here are the things that do matter:

Odds: You can look at the odds of each fight even before you run the card in the Match Making section. (Hard Way: The odds are SUPER important under these rules. They determine how many points a fighter gets in the rankings (I will explain more in the Rankings section).

Post fight interviews
: The winner will occasionally call out a future opponent which is helpful when deciding future matchups.

Post Fight:

Here is where the hard work starts.

Injuries: Go to the Characters screen and highlight a fighter who just fought. If they have an injury they will have a “red cross” icon on the right side of the screen. Move your mouse over the icon and it will tell them how long they are out for (Hard Way: I always use the longest amount of time. If a fighter is only injured for 1 mos but recuperating for 3, that means he is out for 3 mos). Write down the injuries and time out on piece of paper.

Pre-fight Incidents: Remember when you put all of the July fighters on hiatus? Time to change that. Change the entries of the fighters who are injured to “Fighter “No Contact” Suspension and change it to the number of months they are out. Fighters who aren’t injured….delete their entries.

Fight Results: Time to enter the fight results. Go to the database screen and look to the bottom left. Click on “Quick Add Entries” and enter in the fight card results. After that go to “Pre-Game Results” and click on each fight on the card. On each fight entry, input the fighter rankings, check the “Update Momentum” box, double check the weight class and input if it was a fight, submission or KO of the night.

Characters: Click on each fighter who fought on the card. Here is where you enter their rankings points (I’ll get into that in Part 3). It’s also where you can adjust their popularity in the Marketability section. This is key because it helps determine if someone will take a fight. For example, Adesnaya could have a 6-fight streak in your universe but Anderson Silva won’t accept a fight with him if he isn’t at a certain level of popularity. (Hard Way: After each card, I give the winners of the co-main and the main event a big popularity boost in the territory they fought in and in the US and the losers a small one).

So that’s Part 2. Part 3 will be about what you do once the month is over and the rankings system.

Thanks for taking the time to make this for those interested, but wouldn't it be better to actually share your edited database so people won't have to go through step 4 of your setup (which is really timeconsuming)? If you already done the work, that'd save major time.

Please note that you can turn off non-fight-related injuries altogether in the Game Options, for those that merely want to use it as a guide (though it's not really a "universe" without them imho).

The problem is my edited database has 10 yrs of data (I’ve been tracking my universe since Undisputed 1) and fighters who aren’t in the game.

I don’t have a problem with sharing it at all but there would be significant editing that needs to be done in other areas if they used mine.

Since you put so much effort into this and under the assumption you would know about new game modes (Correct me if I’m wrong there), I’m guessing there won’t be a universe type mode in the upcoming game. I wouldn’t think you’d do such an in depth write up if there was a similar in game mode coming soon. But maybe I’m wrong and I hope I am.

WMMA 5 seems like good stuff, but I would much rather have a franchise mode. Seems to be the most requested offline feature.
