Defensive Tips

I've been playing a closed legacy for a while, simulating most of the seasons and only playing my games early in the legacy, and somwhere in the middle, i usually recruited and only played tournament games. I'm in something like 2029-2030 now, and I have been at St Francis NY, Boston College, Arizona, and now Duke. We have a 97 D rating, and full team unity, so it can't be that I just had bad defenders.

For some reason, my defense has gotten worse each and every year. Its to the point where I get so frustrated I can barely play cause I know I'll give up 80 and lose to Northern Colorado by 18.

Does anyone have any tips for playing solid D? I've tried Man, 2-3, 3-2, and 1-3-1, but none have gotten any good results.

Re: Defensive Tips

While I'm not the greatest CHoops player by any stretch of the imagination, I do have a few tips when it comes to defense (learned from my growing pains in the game).

Use the defensive sets that counter what you are having problems with. If it's the post game giving you problems go into a 2-3 zone to get easy double teams on the post players. I find learning how to play as the big man on D helps a TON. Learn to anticipate shot release for better contests/block attempts.

Also make sure to use your pressure settings wisely. If a PG is giving you problems in the paint but not the 3, don't play him tight or he'll just blow by the defender. Vice versa if he's giving you trouble on the perimeter.

Granted most of these are just common knowledge and probably won't help you much but it's a start.

Re: Defensive Tips

If you are getting beaten in the Post, don't double. If you like using man D then stay that way, just control your post player that isn't getting posted up and challenge the shot with him when it goes up, he won't block it but 23 people challenging the shot means it won't go in and your not giving up the open three, plus your weakside defender can recover quicker if there is a pass
