After doing all the tutorials, in my first fight against the computer, i pulled off a standing guillotine from muay thai clinch with Gunnar Nelson. Thing of beauty.

After that, jumped right into online, 5-0, 3 decisions, 1 knockout, 1 sub. I still don't feel too good, no where near as good as UFC 1 yet obviously. I still feel like a noob, but it's easy to see this game is really good IMO.

I'm having some trouble on the ground though, i can hardly block a transition. It feels like i'm doing it on time and going in the right direction, but it's not blocking it. Especially when i transition into mount and the person already loaded up their transition to get back to half guard, and i see it from time, and i input my block to the correct side and it does nothing. Anytime i get mount, the person almost always regains half guard instantly.

Anyone have any tips on blocking transitions on the ground?

Looks like I was flat out wrong.

Practice mode does have the AI installed and I'm liking it so far.

Turn on "Skilled Free Sparring" and Health and Stamina "On"

I fought Lawler, GSP and Maia. All 3 fought significantly differently. Lawler threw mostly punches with a few leg kicks and no TD attempts. GSP mixed it up: Kick based strikes, TD attempts and Clinches. Maia with basic punches and used the clinch to take me down.

There were even differences on the ground. GSP was determined to get me into the Crucifix (Bug: He purposely got out of the Crucifix a few times and went to North South)and wore me down before attempting a sub. Maia was more aggressive with his subs and attempted them once he was in side control.

Well pdandy I think you may have be right about Hughes. The ground moves are all packaged together. I'm trying to figure out which ground move rubber guard is in. They may not be able to remove that one ground move but I'm trying to see if there are other options.

I just had a KO and it looked like the ref stepped in and waived it off. Could have sworn I didn't see that yesterday.

Gotta hit the practice mode and get my ground game right. Had a nice one with Aholbert earlier, but he controlled me on the ground a bit more than I'd like.

I feel that's common theme with you.

Hey man, I won the fight. I'm not a ground guy lol. You know what it feels like to wake up from a nap after getting knocked out, though.

Fair enough. Woodley looked like he slept 8 hours on a memory foam mattress.

After playing for a couple of hours one thing that seems really off.....the "finish the fight" moments are really slow/awkward/weird for standing and ground finishes.

Great fights Pappy. My ground control is decent but my subs D absolutely sucks.

No doubt, man. Getting that sub with 3 seconds left felt good lol. Means felt super sluggish when using him on the feet, though. I thought he'd be a bit better there.

Tim Means body type is all wrong. Hes extremely lanky in real life. I tried using him. Feels so slow. I just starting playing tonite. But the game doesn't feel near as bad as some streams made it look. U can keep a realistic pace if you want. I definitely see an improvement in AI behaviour. Lombard was frickin ridiculous to fight on the harder setting.

I stand corrected. Matt Hughes has the move in the takedown section, not as part of wrestling package section.
From my testing, at the very least, the opponent needs to have very low stamina when you initiate the move. It is also a power takedown which is easier to counter. I believe the penalty for this one is a sprawl bottom.

Note there may be one more requirement on the opponent side. When testing, the opponent didn't attempt to block the takedown at all.

How are you fighting A.I. opponents OTHER than the ghost Created Fighters in Ultimate Team? You can actually do one on one matches with A.I. controlled real world roster fighters? In the mean time I'll check, as its probably something simple that I'm overlooking.

so in the words of brock lesnar i took the horseshoe out his ... and beat him over the head with it
sign
"the champ is here"

lol sorry im just so pumped up in a close fight win (split dec.) that actually awarded me the takedown and ground strikes bout time

I believe it's timing-based/contextual. I was able to do this now 3 times with Matt in the last 10 mins just spamming the power singles/doubles and experimenting with the results in practice mode. Twice when the AI missed with a high kick and I timed my power takedown just right (foot at the peak of the kick), I did the power single to full mount. Then once when the AI missed with a hook and again I timed it right, I did the double to full mount. Now I'm not sure if those were just regular high kicks and hooks that the AI missed with, or maybe they were modified strikes and when countered properly we get the takedowns to mount? Would be easier to experiment with if I had a 2nd controller, but I don't.

Maybe GPD or aholbert can chime in. Also to note, the AI didn't have any damage and was at near full stamina still at this point. (although having low stamina would of course make it harder for him to defend/deny the takedown)

Stamina plays a role but its more timing and context. With that said, you shouldnt be able to initiate this move at the higher levels.

I love online gaming.

So I was fighting this guy with Rick Story and he was using Neil Magny. He was using Magny's length pretty well so I decided to take it to the ground. I'm just hanging in half guard and side control and just lay and praying on the guy. I have top control for 3 minutes of each round.

He isnt on his mic but with about 10 seconds left in the third, he gets frustrated and says "Yo you a bitch *****". LOL. I just laughed. This is the third time in 2 days I've been called a bitch for controlling people on the ground.

I wouldn't mind if the clinch defense was given maybe a fraction of second longer to be executed. I admit that maybe I just suck but it seems a little easy to get people in the clinch in my very humble opinion
