NBA 2K14 News Post

2K Sports and Machinima streamed NBA 2K14 at 4:00 PM EST this afternoon. You can watch the stream now archived at the following link: Click here to open stream in a new tab.

We saw Oklahoma City and Houston played on sim settings as Chris Manning (@LD2K) talking through different features in the game.

After watching the game played on the stream, it definitely appears NBA 2K14 is a step forward for the franchise in a good way. The defenses are much better this year, but not so much so that they overpower the offenses. If you play good offense you will still score plenty of points. Blocks were nowhere near overdone from what I could tell, and the new play in the lane was a subtle improvement. There were some passes which were a bit crazy/odd -- but that's one of those things I'm very willing to forgive.

The shot percentages look much better, and the overall look of the game looks definitely improved. This isn't a complete overhaul, but there are subtle improvements across the board and the gameplay appeared much more balanced overall. My biggest gripe was the lack of fouls called in the game -- I'm hoping that's not a typical thing. Regardless, the game looked very impressive overall.

NBA 2K14 releases October 1 for current gen consoles.

The passing looks better in some ways and worse in others. It looked like many of the long wind-up animations have disappeared. Entry passes to the post were pretty nice.

Most skip passes were way too fast (no air beneath them). Saw lots of bad passes that should have been intercepted going through three defenders instead and still reaching the target. Full court passing still too accurate, especially the quarterback outlets.

Love the defense man...love it...

Both guys are holding the shot stick too long...LD2k should know better, or maybe he doesn't play with OKC

They definitely avoided demo questions, I know they got them

My only problem with the game shown: no fouls.

Otherwise I think balance is there to be had, especially with some slider tweaks.

Looks super sloppy the way they play.

The defense & player movement looks really improved but not enough for a $60 dollar purchase.

Props for the stream though.

Yeah. They were both playing with bad releases all game long.

Paint defense is much better. Looks like Westbrook and Harden were able to penetrate at will even in the half court, and only got stopped by strong interior defense. This worries me a little as neither player had to do so much as call for a pick to free their guy up. Still, less of a concern than the "turbo around the perimeter until your defender runs into his own guy and opens up the lane" from last year.

Spacing was again, very good. Parsons and Lin hung around the perimeter when Harden was handling. Dwight was weak side and Asik high post or vice versa.

Nobody called plays (or ran them when they were called) so I couldn't tell how the AI dealt with picks or positioning. One of my pet peeves in 2k is the horrible AI logic when you are playing off-ball. I was hoping to see whether the AI does a better job recognizing when they missed their pick and go to the next step of the play instead of standing there like a dummy for ten seconds while the shot clock ticked down.

Seems like ld2k was dodging a lot of questions by saying "you will have to wait and see"

Another thing I liked was the noticeable speed acceleration when driving by Westbrook/Durant etc...

Yes, one of the things I mentioned in the Vegas impressions, speed differential between players is noticeable.

The game looks best when two users play on ball and rn plays. All this freelancing and spam stealing and blocking makes the game look sloppy. Defense looks better, but the rockets user was playing awful defense so why should he be bailed out by developers forcing balance?

It comes out in a week, this feels like 2k back in the days when it comes to releasing news. Waiting til the last second

Hey I'm a big boy, I can handle if the demo is not releasing tomorrow, just let me know. What I cant handle is the question being ignored. I work in the business world and communication is A1. It just makes people mad when questions are asked and you blow over it............Now I know its Not Ld2k's fault but their marketing is sophomoric....

Things I noticed

- Probably no demo
- more assets went to next gen as it seems
- defense looks good, rebounding improvement
- seems like 2k wants to get current gen promoted then go all out for next gen.
- passing seems to be touched

# 37 sniapeko @ 09/23/13 05:33 PM
everytime LD2K said "stay tuned"/"wait and you'll see" I assumed that was a next-gen only feature.
Like sleeved jersey (they would have to totally remake the player model, and I hardly believe they've done it current gen) or new blacktop courts

Yeah but rock chiseler unfortunately a lot of 2k fans are sophomoric when it comes to pre release news. Crew, association, sleeves for Pete's sake. People over react to everything and then use powerful weapons like YouTube or twitter to bite into the sales potential for the company. I don't blame them for being hush hush about things.

Jeremy Lin is not nearly as good of a shooter as the guy playing with the Rockets thinks he is. Also, why don't these guys know the releases just a tiny bit better. Consistently late releases.

Other than that it looks good. A LOT of misses around the rim. NBA players DO miss contested shots in the paint. Glad to see that because it gives me hope for stopping stars on clutch plays. Can't comment on the FG % though b/c these guys just cannot shoot.

Movement looks fluid: specifically, the transition from the dribble to a jumper or layup. I also liked the missed alley oop. Haven't seen one of those in a long time.

Maybe too many blocks actually, but the guys did take some questionable shots, so they shouldn't be rewarded for that.

The only thing I really hated was that lob to Garcia. That has never been is forte that I recall.

So no demo then...sheesh they could just say so...
