The fact that I've had some games where I just own, and games where I just can't do right, is encouraging to me. It means that I'm getting varied gameplay. And I've had games where one tactic had no hope, and another game where it did.
What I like is that, from what I've seen, the stars do in fact shine. I can tell just by how they control the ball who their stars are, w/o looking at names.

That does seem to be the case thus far. With Cardiff City, pretty much the only guy I can count on to do something productive is little Craig Bellamy!
Also, I still truly suck at scoring goals, so that's no different than FIFA 12.

I've been using semi for shots, and it certainly seems like it gives me more input than in last year's game, I'm putting shots all over the place like it's fully manual.
While simming through a season with Liverpool, I noticed that Nuri Sahin and Jay Spearing's loans didn't expire at the end of the season. And there's no way to manually end Sahin's loan, though you could buy out Spearing's loan to bring him back (laughable).
Anyone else seen this? Hopefully this can be fixed with the retail version.
Feel a real difference between the demo and the full game, controls feel tighter and AI plays a little smarter.
My main issue with FIFA vs all other sports games if even with manual control on they still control your guy for you a little. I switch to a guy and press toward the ball but the AI makes my guy back pedal rather then challenge for the ball, thus giving the other team a chance to move in front and grab it early.
Started myplayer with SJ Earthquakes and have been setup to be loaned out, so I'm interested to see how that effects my career.
And I love the skill game, amazing playing with a high level guy verse someone without skill.

You can turn the CPU assists off, ya know. I can't stand the setting to auto-switch players.
Glad I had a chance to try this out before I bought it. This game is an absolute joke. It looks like EA decided to crank up the speed because they were afraid all of the imperfect touches would kill the NBA Jam feel of the game. There is absolutely nothing slow about "Slow". The CPU still passes way way way too accurately. They still don't take enough chances. It basically defeats the purpose of playing with full manual controls because you simply cannot keep up with the perfection of the CPU over the long haul. And I'm not interested in another year of tweaking sliders endlessly, only to realize in the end that you can't undo what the game is programmed to do. I pre-ordered this, but I won't be buying.

I started out like you - I hated it. But I stuck with it and started out with Krebstar's FIFA12 sliders and started tweaking a little from there and now I'm really enjoying how it plays. I've been switching back and forth from 12 to 13 and I don't notice the speed difference on slow anymore. I really can't tell the difference between the two - even playing back to back. And at first I was infuriated with how "fast" the slow speed was.
So make sure you use the same slider set you were using with FIFA 12 and see if that helps.
About my only real gripe at this point is the stupid crabwalking maneuver that your player does when it gets within like 20 feet of an opponent. That should be a "special" move and not defaulted into the game. I especially hate it because it takes me off my path and puts me on "rails" and I usually ended up making a bad move or a bad pass because of it.
After going back and forth between 12 and 13 lots of times here is what I've noticed. In summary - I'm not sure if there is 65 reasons for me to buy this game tomorrow but it's certainly an improvement over FIFA 12.
The menus feel very "flat" in FIFA 12 now
The atmosphere is better in 13 than 12
The impact engine is much improved in 13 and for the most part is a meaningful addition to the game.
The first touch addition is a winner in my book
Everything feels more organic in 13 versus 12
The skills games are ridiculously addictive and fun
I'm seeing that different teams do play differently now
I'm not seeing so much that different players play differently though
Pregame stuff is cool in 13
The thing for me though is that when I go back and play 12 it's still fun and engaging. FIFA 13 is better but I haven't decided yet whether it gets my money tomorrow or not.
Just a generic avatar but no game face and not in cut scenes.
That's a shame... Think it was an excellent feature from Madden. Also I'm pretty sure in the build up to FIFA 13 (when EA released the features for Career Mode) they said it would be in the game...
Managers Office
You can now view any available managerial positions via the Jobs Board, this allows you to change clubs mid season should you wish to.
Your manager now appears on the touchline in matches based on customisation options chosen at the start of Career Mode
The crab walk really is infuriating and it's hard to imagine why they'd incorporate something so utterly idiotic.
Like you said, it'd be one thing if certain players did it or if it were triggered by a combination of buttons, because it's not *always* useless. However, to see everybody on the pitch, from wingers to centerbacks to target men, moving around the pitch like that as a *default*...truly stupefying.
Seriously, so one of the developers actually sat there and thought "you know what would be a good idea, lets force a crabwalking animation"....
How that makes it into the release is truly baffling.
A cool little thing I just saw during a match, the ball went out of bounds to the side and one of the players on the other team casually kicked it in the air to his teamate to take the quick throw-in.
played more games and it's growing on me more now. Tweaked my sliders and I think I found a sweet spot. I have also noticed that teams do seem to play differently and I've also noticed changes in tactics during a match.
My big negatives so far are the forced crab walk and the bouncy ground passes. Really hope EA fixes that. Also the brain dead defense that watches balls roll by. That even happens with offense also. Many times now I've passed to a teammate and he watches the ball roll by and instead let's it go to another teammate thats nowhere near the play.
