NCAA Football 13 News Post

TSO's David Shad has posted his NCAA Football 13 hands-on impressions, from a recent community event he attended.

Below are a few things he mentions, click here to read the rest.

Quote:
  • If the receiver doesn't see it he won't make the play—Same for the defense on ball play.
  • DB/WR interaction is great, very realistic, doesn’t stick like glue and run step for step with the receiver
  • OLine/DLine interaction is tuned (not overhauled). The offensive linemen extend and grab, slide accordingly as well with the defender. Great playaction play is back for ’13!
  • Neat and new team celebrations between plays...not just an individual anymore (seemed like only “team” celebrations were TD’s in ’12). Guys will hug and jump bump midair. Especially on big downs or plays.
  • Screens have been improved (slip, wide, and middle). The linemen react and block much better, and do an excellent job going down-field leading a back.
  • Good and accurate pocket depth/presence will be rewarded. If you are dropping back too deep the ball loses power and accuracy will be lost.

Missed a couple sentences my first time.

I thought uncovered interior linemen (G C G) did a better job staying in position to look to help if the man next to them was beaten. It's interesting with the head tracking to watch them look for a block.

There was still times where things didn't play out like I would expect, but I made notes about those times, hopefully by next build they will be worked out.

Always good to see some originals (OG's) on OS. Don't take the questions too personal. People on OS are a great representation of sim gamers. I think we all appreciate all the CD people who come on here, but there is just a level of frustration with ncaa this late in the game.

I have pretty thick skin, but I've also seen this go south.

I'm far more OG than you realize.=) I know the spot in Ohio to get the game early, because I was one of the first to do it. I was a HUGE lurker back when I was in college. I remember sitting in the computer lab in college putting together spreadsheets for rosters for March Madness 2003.

I remember getting rosters from blacklover.=)

It causes unnecessary ambiguity and understandable community frustration to have devs interacting, asking the community what they want in the game but not being able to explain to the community, what is actually possible.

It's like someone planning out a $100,000 annual budget, when they only actually make $36,000 a year. The only thing they will end up doing frustrating themselves thinking about all the stuff they can't afford, instead of focusing on the best way to obtain the things they can.
Great post man. I was actually about to post something similar myself before I saw yours.

Agreed, but find me a company that comes out and does that. It's the same reason they can't tell you what they plan to work on next year in public, because it introduces liability.

LMAO, yah you gotta definitely be old school to remember Blacklover and his rosters lol. It seemed like every year somebody was stealing his rosters and selling them for profit lol. It's always good to see an old timer like me back on the site. Try to stick around this time, even though I know these "new" guys can be quite pesky at times.

So happy to hear player movement is being tweaked. This is huge for me.

Same with the Passing game - one of my biggest issues.

My question now is about animations. I know about the new catches - which is awesome - but how about other animations overall? Like how many new tackling animations are we talking about? Or even just new animations in general.

Thanks guys!

Good news. I appreciate the update

Did the developers say why they can't get jostling in the game? I know theyve been working on getting it in since madden/ncaa 10. Just wondering if they gave any explanations on the issue

Its certainly not beating people down, its stating what has happened previously. You joined in 2011, so I dont expect you to know whats been posted over the previous 2-8 years. However, it is the same song and dance yearly like clockwork.

Im just stating my opinion like others state theirs. If you look at previous history, especially posts from Community day people and other sports sites that get pre-release info ( like Pastapadre etc on Madden Nation ), what they play and things that are supposedly fixed seem to never make it into the "release build".

If this year is any different, then awesome. Previous history dictates otherwise.

I'm Charles Barkley style "turrible" at noticing animations. The catching ones are very noticeable because there was a huge void that needed to be filled in those scenarios. I can't honestly say I noticed any new animations for tackling, but David_TSO might have.

Last year, if you wanted your WR to go up in the air and catch the ball on a fade route (especially in the endzone), you had to take control of the WR yourself.

Will the CPU WR try and jump up and grab the ball if its lobbed into the corner of the endzone? Fade routes are becoming a huge part of football, and I'm really hoping the 430 animations and improved CB play helps with this. Thanks for answering all these questions, its very much appreciated!

@ShaunLMason, have you asked about this, if not can you. It's directed towards Madden but it applies to NCAA 13 too, imo.
It's the same as last year, you just see personnel.

Oh man Blacklover! That is a name I remember. I was on OS before the new millennium and it has been interesting to see the evolution of Ncaa. I really think what you see now is the reality of next gen football is nowhere near where we thought it would be. I had ncaa 99 on the PC back in the day and I always thought in ten + years this game was going to be off the charts. The problem is other genres of next gen games have far surpassed sports gaming steps in technology. One question I had for you is was there a option for player lock on defense?

They DO tune after we leave, even when it's the last time we go for the cycle. I'm trying to be real careful to only talk about things that I could see concretely, but I can't control everything.

Shaun or David,

Can you speak to the no huddle or the accelerated clock? Have either had any changes to them in this year's game or is it the same as last year? Is the no huddle all hurry up? Thanks.

Every year its the same song and dance, dont know why anyone expects anything different.

Take the impressions you hear with a grain of salt.
This is my first go around and TSO over the past year has started representing my man.

I cannot help what changes from now to then. These are just MY personal impressions and no doubt yours can differ from mine or anyone else's...so what are we to do, you know? Rent the game, play the demo only....idk what to tell you.

I agree...take the impressions with a grain a salt...shoot use a cup for all I care. All I know is I tried my best to be completely honest with what I saw. And I really could care less if you agree or not...and I'm not trying to be rude...but what is the worth in that? It's just an opinion.

I had a team intermittently no huddle against me.

Most of my questions were answered......Impressive, considering I did ask over 20 questions. But straight honest, no BS, no sugar coating telling it how it is answers I can respect.

Thanks...it took me a bit to get through them but I wouldn't leave you hanging.

I remember the feeling when you really hoped you could get an answer and it seemed like no one responded or cared.

So I try to take that with me when answering ppl's questions. I still might miss some but I try my best.
