Btw, Dewiel, did it actually feel like you were using Polamalu. Looked like you were playing pretty conservative with him! Madden has never properly portrayed how he plays though ever in their games.
Also I caught what Gus said "one touch is all he needs" that was Mendenhall's first carry, so it sounded like something Gus would actually say.

I'm just saying it isn't the final build, I'm not saying the final build is going to be way better or anything fanboyish. Chill out. I will say the final build is going to be better than the demo, though. Everyone that played the game at E3 even, told me it was better than the demo. The one guy I know who played it at the event in the Xbox Showcase in NYC said the demo was good, E3 was smoother and a little tighter and the qb's weren't so fast, and the build in NYC was a little tighter and refined than the other 2 builds. Not massive changes, but noticeable enough that he said he felt a difference in each build, with the demo build being the worst.

Also, remember that as we move forward especially into Madden 13, this is going to be a different team of developers, some of the guys from NCAA (Roy Harvey and Sean Graddy) are leaving NCAA to join the Madden team and job roles are changing(Mike Young promoted from Art Director to Creative Director). So what happened in the past with Madden isn't necessarily going to be indicative of the future.

The game seemed to skew heavily towards the offense. I'm glad the cpu can move the ball but, by looking at the vid it seems the defenses weren't playing very well and I'd imagine these defenses to be the two best in the game. Kinda scares me what an Eagles vs. Packers or Indy vs. NE game would look like.

Hopefully it was just one of those games and defensive struggles can and will still happen.

The only thing thats holding me back from saying the game looks/is(demo) fantastic is the slants are still money. Obviously not every single time but its gotta be 8-10 give or take. Its one of those things that you shouldn't have to think, "well I can get a first down almost every time I need it by throwing a slant."

I really really hope this issue can be fixed in a patch. The same issue was in 11 and it had 4 patches and it still wasn't fixed. So that kinda worries me.

Any insight on this Dewiel?

It's a shame that this is purposely put in the game and not a just a glitch. It was in Madden 11 as well. Any time there's ANY kind of rain or snow the seats are half empty. And lets be honest, this is the NFL, the fans show up no matter what the weather is like outside. It completely ruins my gaming experience when I'm playing in my Philadelphia Eagles franchise and it rains and the seats are half empty! Are you kidding me!? (And as I mentioned above, this happens in rain AND snow games)

Slants can be shut down easily IMO. It's all about shading your DBs and calling the right coverage. If you're in cover 3, of course it's open. I have not ran into an issue with slants, but I do make line adjustments. I also spread my LBs out when I think slants are coming to cover that area easier. Just a few things that I have done.

Let me know if you're still seeing issues when you get the final game.

Nice video. I liked it. Isn't the empty seats due to the weather AND the fact it's an exhibition game? Hopefully a regular season franchise game would always be full.

Someone might already have posted this, but why is Troy Polamalu playing special teams? (Punt return at 06.16) Hopefully they let us set ut special teams depht charts next year, to avoid unnecessary injuries to star players.

Loved the video but i thought we'd see the uniforms caked in mud and grass with it being a heavy rain game?! trousers are clean and ravens white jerseys.

Liked the turf coming up when sliding on the field but where are the muddy patches??

Looks and sounds good. Uniform deterioration is nice, but hard rain on the Heinz Field surface should yield it looking pretty tore up after a half,
especially between the hash marks. Not a deal breaker but dissapointing.

Speaking of shading. Will the shading in the final game be different from the demo? In the demo I can't really tell that they are shading the direction I'm telling them to.

Big hit tackles nearly every time...

Why is there never some simple wrap up and drag down tackles? Disappointing.

I see those all the time in the demo, I think it may be because people are used to suction tackling and I think if you hit the tackle button like you would have before they push now because they are further away, but if you wait to get close they bring them down and wrap them up. That has been my experience with the game anyway. I hardly ever ''push tackle'' when I'm playing because I wait till I'm really close to the ball carrier to hit the tackle button.

OH well, maybe next year.
It may still be there in replays, I don't know how it works. In real life you wouldn't be able to see something like that from 10 yards away other than as it actually happened, so maybe if you go in replay and look down into the ground you can see it. Probably not, but it's a possibility. Still cool to see it as the play happens though.

It isn't perfect, but Gus Johnson's enthusiasm and the crowd noise during the Mendenhall TD was amazing. The combination of both just adds a huge amount of "big play feel" to the game.

I'll tell you what, like it or hate it, this is the best Madden's commentary has ever sounded. After dusting off Madden 09 for the original Xbox and working on my now three-year-old franchise, Al Michaels doesn't even compare. "Generic Radio Guy" and Tom Hammond were much more awful. True, we *may* have to wait until 13 for new commentary technology but when it's good, it's good. That doesn't mean it's anywhere near being perfect or even solid, mind you, but it's good nonetheless. Commentary is something the Madden series has always struggled with, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt here.

Some of the missing pieces right now are the little bits of detail they put into Al's play-by-play in the last days of last-gen, such as "(QB name) is starting this week because of the injury" and the like. I still find myself playing the old Madden much more frequently thanks to the little things that keep gameplay fresh.

On another sidenote, I also hope the new DPP system can come close to the great stat-based progression found in the last few Maddens of last generation. Players with consistent big seasons and game performances were rewarded with ratings boosts, while struggling or benched players often saw a ratings drop week-by-week and season-by-season...we shall see, folks.

Thanks for the response, but I was referring to playing offense. The CPU just doesn't seem to do a good job of covering the slot. Even the outside receivers tend to beat the CB the majority of the time. I know that slants tend to be a higher percentage play in the NFL, but after a team gets burned by them they will make adjustments to stop them. This doesn't seem to happen in Madden.

I know its just the demo and I will definitely reserve judgement for the retail version. because right now I haven't been this impressed with Madden since 05.

But if I knew that I couldn't abuse the middle of the field with slants I think I could play this game twice a day and thrice on Sundays.

I agree about too many big hits. I do think this is something they could tune if they wanted to. I think the cpu tackle logic just needs to be tweaked to use a higher percentage of wrap tackles.
