Madden NFL 11 News Post

I recentely sat down for a talk with FBGRatings.com's Dan Berens to discuss his site's vision and what's going on over there today. The site is currently working on getting accurate ratings for every player using real hard data converted into the Madden ratings universe. Dan claims that when these numbers are plugged into the game, it plays much better and much closer to real life. Check out the interview below and also check out Dan's website to see what he's got going on!

Wow this issue was addressed a million times it seems like already...you really should READ the entire thread.

They are NOT available for DL at this point, but should be for this upcoming season for Madden 12. Otherwise, you can simply edit player ratings in the game according to how they are rated on the site.

Because Jackson posted the following times at his combine/pro day:
4.35 40, 1.53 10, 4.19 shuttle

The best of these times correlate to the SPD of 92 and ACC of 87. Now, remember that a 90 is considered to be elite. The number of players with a 90+ speed is very small. Combine this with the position-specific ratings to be added and Desean will for certain, be a formidable weapon. His SPM, and JKM ratings will be very high. Remember, it is not how one player is rated in one attribute, but rather how ALL the attributes work together. You can no longer take the fastest or most agile players and expect them to be supermen. Rather, they have to have solid ratings in each relevant category to be great players. The days of having all 99s in each attribute are over in this system.

This is incredible man. I'll admit I haven't read through the whole thread so a couple quick questions:

1. Are you going to post it publicly when you are finished? Or do you have to be a member to see the complete ratings?

2. Are you guys planning to be done by the release of Madden 12 or what is your time table?

It is open to ANYONE with the proper web address. You have to have the correct address which is in my sig.

I am planning on being entirely done for Madden 12. All players should be good to go by then if all goes according to plan.

I'm really hoping that there will be PS3 versions of the Madden 12 roster available for download...

I used to use the site for CAPs, but I have to admit that editing the whole league by hand would be impossible for me...

I'd happily pay a fee for downloads or contribute by subscribing to the site as a member...

Do you have a outline for how you will proceed with all of that yet, Dan?

Once fully operational with all ratings, the site will be publicly open to anyone. After that, I will employ a team to create the rosters for DL on Xbox and PS3. I have not yet decided if there will be any charge for the rosters, but I will not rule it out. I guess if I got a job doing rosters at EA that would make the point of charging people useless...but I can only hope that the site and method gains enough attention to get an offer. Until then, I already have another job to pay the bills while I continue on this massive undertaking for your pleasure LOL!

To be honest I would probably do it for my own pleasure just as well LOL! I love doing this stuff. I get a huge amount of gratification just seeing people interested in my work...so please just enjoy it and I will continue to do it!

Glad to hear you like how the ratings are working. I am making some more big adjustments to all of those ratings, and things should be fully operational with ALL ratings up by kickoff 2011 whenever that is. As for the rookies, they will have their physical attributes up in a matter of weeks. There are about 2400 rookies that need to be added with each draft class and I have to enter in all data for them, including their basic data (ht, wt, college, DOB, etc) so it will take a while. Hoping that ALL basic data will be up by the end of June. After that I will have the rest of the ratings and OVR ratings ready to go for Camp circa late July.

BTW, what did you like or dislike about how the ratings were working in Madden 11? Would love some feedback.

With all the interaction that goes on between EA football devs and the community now a days, have you had a chance to even communicate with Donny Moore?

Man, that guy..... I want to keep this respectful, so I will tread lightly. LOL

In a recent video, the interviewer talked about Donny have Ratings Czar on his business card, seriously? I am glad he enjoys his job because it's hard to find a job you love and his passion for ratings really shows. I just wish he had a partner or ratings team with a different POV than his. When I read that Scouting Talent interview Donny did, I felt his approach to ratings was convoluted and over complicated. I feel with your straight forward, easy to understand, data driven approach, you at least deserve a seat at the EA football ratings table.
I have not had a chance to discuss anything with Donny. If he pays enough attention to the OS, I am sure he has seen a thread or two about my site. I do know for a fact that whoever does the ratings does subscribe to the organization that powers my website, NFLdraftscout.com. If you recall that interview where the Madden devs were owned by TJ Houshmanzedeh a few years ago stating he ran a 4.61 40 time and TJ replied that he never ran one, that data was from our site. I also know that they have been around to my site as well scoping things out. If fact, some of the players they would add to roster updates in past versions of Madden (05, 06) would have the SAME CAPS as players on FBGratings.com with only a few minor differences (like KPW for a WR for example).

What I am attempting to do is simply do things BETTER than what EA does. Improve the quality of the game from a particular angle: ratings. I looked at all the hard data first to determine the ratings scale that matches in-game performance. I also incorporated REAL scouting data for all of my 16000+ players in the database. Converting them to Madden ratings, is actually the easy part. It's unbiased, complete scouting data in your Madden. No opinion, no BS.

Thanks for the props and I do hope one day to receive an offer from EA once the community realizes how complete and accurate this system is. Thanks again!

So, you are redoing ALL ratings for EVERY player? Just great! Can't wait! It will be on fbgratings.com, right? And what is an approximate time when they will be up?

Thanks

I try to be a practical, common sense person and when I look at Madden as it relates to simulation ratings along with simulation sliders, I just don't understand. When I buy Madden, it's like buying office furniture in a box from Walmart. It may be missing some stuff but it basically has what's needed to put it together. The problem is, I have to find a way to do it and the instruction manual is missing.

I really would love for a Madden dev to explain why the hardcore community can NOT get a factory setting in Madden. A factory setting with a slider set copied from any hardcore community approved simulation slider creator, realistic penalty enforcement and FBG ratings. The "sim is subjective" argument is no excuse because Rookie, Pro, All Pro, All Madden and player ratings are "subjective" too but they still give us a factory settings for those.

I wonder why there is not more Madden community support behind this idea, when they have rallied so strongly behind dreads, correct equipment and broadcast cam.
The simple fact that it is an uphill battle is asinine. It is so hard to go out and purchase these games knowing that they have so many flaws. To me, it is worth the time and effort to try to get accurate ratings fully knowing that they may never make it to a Madden dev. However, I know for a fact that they are aware of the site and have been for some time, so they are paying attention. I just want realism in the game based off of things that everyone can understand WITH explanations. Want to know why your QB only has THP of 85 and not 90? I can tell you...not sure if the devs would have the data to show you why.

No problem. All basic data with players' last names beginning with A-M and X-Z should be up later this week. This includes raw attributes and basic info.

Can I see your reasoning behind Brandon Banks' 91 speed and 89 acceleration? He ran a 40 time of 4.43 seconds, but what most people don't know is that he pulled his hamstring while running it. If he never pulled it, he certainly would have had a better time. He claims to have run a 4.23. Also, he said he HAS (not could) beaten Chris Johnson in a race before.

Banks and Anthony Armstrong are the fastest Redskins, (and while this is up to you) I believe they should be rated as such. It wouldn't be a huge deal as I can change it myself.
