After a three-year hiatus, the champ is back to defend its throne. But during the long layoff, we’ve witnessed the returns of Afro Thunder and Little Mac, the rise of Wii Sports boxing, an appearance by Don King and the next-gen debut of Dana White and his UFC crew.

Sporting a new development team and a world of hype, Fight Night Round 4 retains the title and does it every bit as good as its predecessor. Read on to find out how.

Nice job on the review! I have to agree with you...I have really been enjoying it. The training is tough but very valuable...I especially found the heavy bag combos great practice in getting TPC down well.

In my opinion, the best next-gen graphics goes to Ace Combact 6....seriously, if you havent seen the gameplay graphics, go rent it. AMAZING

Hey Holt, I totally respect your response and understand where you're coming from. I just prefer the buttons as opposed to TPC because they give me a better chance of throwing the correct punch as opposed to an analog stick. If they had both choices for gamers as opposed to forcing one, it would be even better. I don't think I'll purchase this title until EA puts the button configuration in. I could enjoy it better that way with the buttons.

The only problem is, I'm not the only person that believes this way. There are thousands of others that think this way. From a business standpoint, EA needs to make those changes so it could help its bottom line. Doing so can put this title over. Everything is in the game is great and not too far from perfect. Good graphics, sound, solid career mode. The only thing thats holding it back or me from buying are the controls.

FN4 plays way better than the demo. Definitely a huge leap forward in visuals. My only issue is with the training sessions in legacy mode. Feels too much like your boxer is moving through mud....

I must say, this is an amazing game, but I don't know about you, but there seems to be a delay on punching....Meaning, after I have given a combo, I still see my guy punch a few or react late....Am I wrong here???

I give this game 9.5 out of 10 though!

If they use DLC/patches to add more sliders, the ability to throw punches with the buttons, and clean up some of the random anomalies in the gameplay...this might be my sports-game of the year.
i agree with everything especially the bolded part. the A.I. is superb

But it could sell even better with the button config.

7/10

Way too unrealistic work-rates, bad foot work, and hard to create space as the fighters seem to be moving in quick sand once they're in close. The engine for the game is great and had the potential to be considered a boxing sim, but it feels like they dumbed it down too much for the casual fans.

Vs pushing the stick as fast as they can? It takes more stick expertise to use TPC, but in no way requires any more boxing expertise. The latter is what the game should be about.

I agree with the review. Good read. Great game and I can't stop playing!

Hey "dat swag". It's not an excuse, it's a fact. Can you honestly say that every single punch you threw using TPC was the accurate punch you wanted? If you say yes, then you're lying.

Also, what makes a person that plays with buttons an automatic "button masher"? Last time I checked, when I played in the past, I used the buttons in a strategic manner. I never mindlessly went apes*** and hit buttons. That's a poor stereotype going around.

I like the button punching and first person camera in FNR3 on PS3. I'm not sure if this one is worth the new outlay of cash.

Well done review! Fair and detailed. I've been playing the game and agree with the reviewer...this is an excellent game despite some minor quibbles...well worth the cost for all you get.

Okay, so after having the game for multiple weeks, I just want to say that my opinion has changed. Where I thought the game had game-killing flaws with fatigue and robo punching, I now think those are avoidable. This game is tremendously fun and although its not perfect, it is as close to sim as I've seen in a boxing game and has great gameplay.

Still enjoying this great game. Playing nonstop since release.

I'll give this game an 8.5 since its missing some key boxers.
