I hear many of you discussing slider, but don't you guys think that a NBA game should play like a NBA game out of the box? Just wondering.. I am not really a fan of adjusting the sliders... Hoping for some more vids from steve

Positives:
  • Right off the tip, Rondo AUTOMATICALLY begins ball denial of Kobe Bryant.
  • Rondo anticipates the pass from Gasol = nice steal.
  • Allen cuts through screens at beginning of offensive set, so does Rondo, which creates nice spacing.
  • Odom attempts the block, runs back, Kobe with the heads up pass to begin the FASTBREAK for the dunk.
  • Much more signature style on offense and defense.

Negatives:
  • After the Rondo steal, on a 3-1 fastbreak, Allen slows down and doesn't continue to cut to the basket.
  • Guys lumber into position, instead of busting it. Most notable, the Kobe give-and-go backdoor cut.
  • Spacing or court size is still an issue especially when there are screens and picks. Guys get clunked together and it looks awful when it happens. Not to mention it effects gameplay. Most noticeable is that Pierce play.
  • Playcalling is inferior.
I like it, I like it. Would love to get my hands on it. lol! But one comment though. Isn't this the purpose of a demo? So that your customers tell you the issues and you have significant time to fix it up. I'm assuming we get the demo sometime next week which does not leave a lot of time to correct some of these issues.

The gameplay is unquestionably good, but sometimes I turn down the volume just to stop hearing the same lines over and over again. It takes away from the overall feel of an NBA basketball game.

Commentary is a huge part of what makes a game exciting, and hearing "OOOOH!" every time a player hits a clutch game winning shot is irritating.

How about Harlan when your player reaches the line, "Kobe seems unhappy with his current situation"... yet that entire situation turned and it was still repeating 5000 times over every game.

For some, it may not have an effect, but I think it takes a lot away from the game for others. I would love to hear one of my players has been scoring in a variety of ways and is unstoppable, or sometimes with good commentary, they tip a player on how to change his strategy to win the game. "I think they should start going inside a bit more to player X in order to get a few easy buckets and develop some confidence" etc.

Another thing thats really bothersome is how they randomly say "He" instead of naming players, making it seem completely random.

Its so sad how we're going to see all those people thats bashing 2k9 right now, jump on the bandwagon once they play in comes 10/7. Its like growing up a child for 18yrs and once he turns 18 he turns out to be a know-it-all over night. 2k I'm with you now and with you till the End. Keep doin what you doin, cause theyre only making you make more money with all this 2k vs Live crap.

The game plays like an NBA game out of the box. Most casual fans dont touch the sliders. Nitpicking sim crazy people like us are the reason sliders are needed. Most casual fans will look at the videos and think it looks great.

After viewing this thing many times the Paul Pierce play just shows AI is quite not there yet. If you look at the play, Pierce was actually about to run to his spot in the play but got stuck behind Bynum and then he stopped and just walked to the spot. Getting stuck behiind Bynum appeared to confuse the AI. In real life he would have pushed off of Bynum to get to his spot.

Just my 2 cents..

These gameplay vids never show people what the new game(s) can do. Unless you have an experienced player(s) on the sticks...every video is going to look like this. Yes Live has the better play calling and commentary, but the game does not play or feel like NBA basketball. That's the reason the 2K has been the champ for so long. When you sit down at home and go to practice mode and use Isomotion, or when you play against your friends and see how life like this game is then we can truly judge...

On another note; since the 2K insider is adding animations during the course of the year, wouldn't it be cool if they added new lines of commentary as well. There is always a surprise team every year. It would be very innovative if the game grew as the season did in every way. Of course that would require a generic broadcasting team but NFL2K used that method and they had the best overall game out there.

IMO, I think that since 2K knows they have a better game they were a little lax this year. This could of been the best game ever hands down. No baiting/trolling necessary. Live is catching up. They're getting 2K's old production team members for a reason. I just hope that Rob and the rest of them dudes read the forums everywhere and put the finishing touches on....ratings, speed/fluidity of the playcalling and sliding.

Sorry for the long one.

I'm only a rookie on this site because of my low post numbers...
Gone...

Nah it doesn't bother me. I just don't get that irritated. I've never turned the commentary off in a game. Not even Madden's horrible radio guy, just doesn't bother me.

As far as the Kobe line is concerned what can they do about that. That situation was true when the game was produced. There's absolutely nothing they can do about that. The question is should that have been added to the game? I think they just write bad scripts.

I also think they should name the players more instead of saying he alot, but I guess it just makes the commentary flow better instead of plugging in the name and then adding the line afterwards.

These issues were brought up last year, and everyone here still played the game and loved it

The purpose of a demo is to preview the game NOT to get feedback from the public. Most games are gold and ready for shipping before the demo drops.

Hence, a befitting motto for the 08/09 bball games dropping this fall is "It's the gameplay stupids". I envy you Steve. What shocks me is that you are actually deviating time with 2K9 by running errands!..lol..just kidding...Keep the vids coming, but preface their upload by adding your two cents on how the game actually feels and plays, since I'm sure its orgasmic. Oooops, here comes the lectures from high-falutin' mods about how idiotic it is to equate your love of 2K with crude sexual remarks. We get it.
Quoted for truth.

I don't post a lot, but i read a lot. I don't care if it's viral marketing, fanboys or whatever, but putting Live and 2K in the same sentence is a disrespect to the game of basketball.

I've played the Live demo and i felt completely lost by what peole were saying. Means to me that most people don't know jack about basketball. For god's sake, they have a highlight button!

Gameplay is where is at, and judging by the video, lots of bugs that plagued 2K8 were toned down, and the only letdown i saw were the playcalling and the unrealistic replays.

Is it so hard for developers to put the replays on dead balls, like in real life? Have they never watched a broadcast?

I hope they can patch those minor glitches. The ultimate test is seeing how much the game can be exploited online. That's the real deal.

Of course we here think that it should, but after all these years we're just recognizing the reality of who the game is tuned for on default settings.

Most players aren't going to want to play a game where on good days they're shooting 49-50% from the field, and on bad days they're shooting 39-40%.

We'll adjust things to make the game harder, if its too hard to begin with, most players will just not play or buy the game anymore.
