    Baserunning Question

Apologies if this is an unnecessary post - still trying to find out where to post things here.

But does anybody know why my baserunners auto dive into bases at such frequent rates? They are complete rally killers and prevent me from scoring runs. This has been a cog for me since ‘20. Is it a gameplay setting that I’m missing or is this just a thing in the game?

Thanks to anyone who can answer!

    Re: Baserunning Question

Baserunning has been really messed up for a few years now. I don't know that there's a good answer. You're absoultely correct in what you're saying, though.

I actually turn injuries OFF specificially because of the high rate that my guys get hurt diving back to the bag when the CPU pitcher throws to first base. Even when they aren't leading off and I'm not trying to steal. Even with the pickoff slider set to zero.

I just started playing 21 after it went on sale, and baserunning is even worse in this one than it was in 18 and 20. I can't even figure out how to manually tell ONE batter to advance to the next base without sending all of them. The controls are different/removed from how they always were before.
Anyone who claims to be a fan of two teams in the same pro sport is actually a fan of none.

Check settings in gameplay options for base running. I think if you play manual running you can avoid this. Turn off auto sliding as well

I'm personally not as worried about the injuries, but that's a fair point. I simulate more than I play but I'll have to be more aware of that.

It's really disheartening when you hit a single to center with a man on second and instead of being able to send him home, he slides into third automatically, and doesn't get up in time for me to even contest the throw to home. Truly tragic

I tried to play around with this the other day, unfortunately could not find the solution no matter what setting it was on. Perhaps I'm just silly or impatient, both are likely, but it's one of the few gameplay elements that really hold the game back for me!

I totally agree. After two weeks of playing 21, I've given up and turned baserunning to auto. I hate it, because it takes part of the game away and I feel like I do a better job than the CPU does in all prior editions of the game. But without it, they freaking don't advance when they should. Even with a man on 3rd and two outs!

With a guy at second base, you hit a ball in the right-center gap you know is going to be a hit. You press and hold the L1 button, and keep it pressed until he rounds third.

If you think the batter is looking at a double, keep it pressed til both the runner is past third and the batter is past first. Then let go and you can manually control either for a slide if necessary.

Classic Baserunning and Manual running and sliding lets you control your guys and will help keep you in the game, by utilizing the outfielder’s arm ratings to decide whether you send guys or hold them up.

I have had zero issues unless I make the mistake, which happens from time to time, but at least it is my doing.

I just can't get used to doing it that way. I want to push the directional pad relating to which baserunner I'm talking to and the button for the base I want him to run to (usually its X for home)

You can totally still do that as well…. The reason I suggested the L1 trigger was for maybe a guy at third with 0 or 1 out. A quick look shows the infield playing back, so you get yourself ready and if you have the contact play on, the second you put the ball in play, you hit that L1 trigger.
It is way easier than hitting the ball, trying to press the dpad or LStick to third, (nine o’clock) and then hit the X to send him home, while also trying to get the batter to go to second if they throw home. That quick press gets the runner on his way, at which point you can take control of specific runners.
I have used Classic/manual control since the Show came out, and never had a runner advance/dive back issue. I am not saying you aren’t having a problem, but I believe it is game control/setting issue as opposed to programming.

The problem that I think people are referring to is that the runner on second is auto sliding into 3rd so you don't get the opportunity to send him home because by the time he gets up from his slide, you would get thrown out by a mile.... It has to be a code issue because a runner on second is never going to slide into 3rd on a base knock. I could be wrong but I believe this is the issue people are having..... I know that is what is going on in my games for sure.

Ahh, okay. I guess I have trained myself to immediately give that runner at second the “run to home” command as soon as that ball goes the gap. I don’t give the runner the chance to slide into third, as I am waving him in manually.
Also, turning off auto sliding and being in control of not only when your guy slides but which slide, and to what side of the base, may pay dividends.
