Please find a way to moderate behavior in Rec games:

It's that time of the year, almost Christmas! So let's discuss the cheer or lack thereof in the 2k Rec Random community.

It is nearly impossible to go ONE GAME without someone getting in their feelings. I'm talking about 99s, level 40s, whatever, almost every single game has: people standing around at tip off not ready for the game to start, people going away and getting 5 second inbound violations (and these are the things I would call neutral behaviors, but they still affect competition.) Then, you get into people who refuse to come down the court and play D and just spot up in the corner, they can play the whole game that way, flopping and everything. There are people who refuse to pass ever until people quit and then mash pass to always get the ball from the computer. People still get 3 seconds, people still roll the ball inbounds to the other team... what I don't understand is why this is allowed.

2k used to kick you out very quickly if you were not there, and I'm not sure if it's better or worse (because sometimes you do have to run away for a sec and it's not the end of the world,) but in terms of toxic behaviors, not even to mention the 'verbal abuse' of people who are doing these toxic things. It kind of speaks to the culture of gaming at the moment, but I believe there are things 2k can do to educate and police their community.

It's not that people don't act as stupid in park, but A. Park sucks! B. Five sec in paint is enough to get a good shot. C. Worst case, it's a short game, not 30~ minutes.

I don't understand why a company that seems intent on putting uplifting and inclusive language and gear in the game cannot do more to keep people from being toxic and ruining the gameplay experience of 9 others. I understand you can quit, and it makes a lot of sense to do it, but I just... don't quit. That's not really a solution, either.

The thing is, I've gotten on the microphone and reasoned with some of these people and actually turned things around. You have to play amateur psychologist sometimes haha. I just don't understand why 2k can't take up some of the responsibility. It doesn't even have to be severe punishment (but people should have some repercussions,) I'd just prefer that people were somehow taught to not be a jerk.

What about a 2k TV episode or miniseries on toxicity in gaming? I am a grown man, but some of this amounts to legitimate 'cyber bullying.' I bet most of us have heard people cry on the microphone and that's PRETTY FREAKING WEIRD, if you think about it.

What say you?

Everything you posted sums up exactly why I stopped playing online years ago.

Sadly it's the flip side of human nature, just as there are decent folk, there's also plenty of fools, too.

The problem is, the internet has given them a platform and brought them directly into your homes.

The day's of true multiplayer games - sitting in with your friends and duelling it out - those were precious. Surrounded by people you know, and ignorant of the toxicity existing outside of your own world. Better times, if you ask me.

Played a game where only 1 guy got on the mic, complained about the team all game in a close game, then in the last minute he airballs, gets a bad foul, and commits 2 bad turnovers to end the game.

Then right before the game ends he cusses out the whole team and says everyone else sucks.

Maybe a vote kick button amongst the team? Or bring the technical fouls back if you cuss in the mic but make it so you only get the tech if you’re cussing above a certain decibel level or something Lmaoo

Also played with a kid who got on the mic and told a grown man he’s not running a zone or playing defence because he’s a “Playshot” and “doesn’t have to play defence”, with all the audacity you would expect to find in someone that was actually right and making an actual point.

There’s some wild boys on 2k

I also thought that it penalized you or hurt your rep level if you quit one of those unbearable REC games with terrible teammates. I only try to play with people I know, but we all have different schedules, so it’s tough.

I'd also love it if the PG (or if the PG quits and it's an AI, the next position closest to PG still left) could call for zone defense letting his teammates know(including AI Players) where to go. I mean they allow the stupid offense play marks on the floor which are useless, but not defense? Most rec games you lose with randoms are because of lazy , or dumb defense. If you could let the know where to go with those markings, it would help a lot.

I also agree with OP on park vs Rec... Rec is a lot more fun than park imo. Park is SO "assembly line" it's not even funny. Rec games have much more variety to the flow and comp.
