Skating styles...Any progress by users?

Seems a bit of a neglected element in the game --the lack of variety in skating styles?
Anyone got any tips on even making the BIG names/Great Skaters have differing styles?
Mackinnon, MacDavid, Kaprizov, Matthews, Hintz, etc....all have certain styles?

Has anyone ever done any work on this/website/clips etc

I know that in 22 there were only 4 done by EA that had different skating styles, they were Mackinnon, McDavid, Panarin, and Eichel… They are probably still in 23 I guess, didn't really checked to be honest.

I know that last night I played a game against the Oilers, and I could definitely tell when McDavid had the puck (I play action cam, player lock and no HUD at all) and it's definitely a nice touch. It really adds to the game. Remember noticing Mackinnon in 22 also…

That being said, I’m not a skating style expert, lol ! But it would be amazing if we had way more !!! Would bring NHL23 to a greater extent to the next level 😀

Been thinking more about this as I try to make the NHL23 experiance a better one (or at let more realistic)

So who do we consider to have a truly unique style?

Kaprizov has that weird "10-2 " style...wouldnt that be something to see as he reels out of the corners....

Some have that "giddy up" quick step gallop, some have that long gracefull stride.....

Laine, often considered to be only an average skater, has this very up right style...

I cant put my finger on the styles, but it would be amazing to have at least some sort of list of Players and the corresponding matching styles.

I’m curious too, would love to edit Skating Styles but I’m afraid I’d make the game more goofy looking than anything lol

I remember when they first introduced signature shot and skating styles before Covid, they had said they would keep adding to them every year.

They have not added any since they were first introduced.

That’s EA for you.

I don’t get why they added that when it’s not even being touched. That’s kind of a waste of space they could use for something else

Its such a missed opportunity to really make the games star players stand out......I must admit to although i can observe different styles, I wouldnt know where to start in what Skating Style attributes to change.

Played around a bit earlier and this is what I’ve came up with starting with 3 players… Like I said before, by no means I’m a skating expert but that could give us an idea 😀

3 players that have unique styles I think, 2 from the Montreal Canadiens because I watch them play allot, and of course Alex Ovechkin ! (So sad his UNIQUE skating style hasn't been touched by EA)

Brendan Gallagher: He has that crouched stance but he has pretty long stride for his size…

Josh Anderson: He is way more upright and has that long powerful stride…

Alex Ovechkin: Sometimes he does that one two step with knees high "a gallop" that I tried to replicate, but ??? Will give it another shot later, lol !

I think I'm getting closer… With the tools that the game gives us…. I went as far as I could with his distinct "kicking", his "crazy" stick also when he skates without the puck, I thing I should widen his stance a bit when he goes full speed, but that I can do…

I think this is the best I can do for OVI, from my knowledge of him and the tools we have, but I must say that I’m very happy with it and doesn't look goofy at all to my surprise 😆

Thanks Johnny ! I think the "new" OVI looks pretty good also, will share what was changed in his skating style later on in the project 😀

Let me see what I can come up with these fellas you are talking about 😉
