Just wondering what people's opinion on the best version of madden was and why ?

M15 was great because it was the first major graphical leap.
M20 was my favorite because it was the most fun and they had franchise in a relatively decent spot at the time. Can't go back to either of those games now after experiencing next gen player movement, but i had way more fun playing them than the new games. -

Madden 08 with all the bells and whistles is a hard game to beat. 25 gets a lot of love, but latest one people like is 20.
08's got modern rules (OT, 25yd touchback, etc), the absolute best graphics that that generation of gaming could handle (imo nearly up to par with Madden 22, besides player models). Madden 08's turf (FF/FI mod) is clearly superior to Madden 22s, EA likes to degrade it quietly and reimplement decent graphics to add shine to newer games.

CPU teams stole your successful plays in your playbook and added them to their playbooks. That feature met with college playbooks from incoming college coaches and user created plays birthed a new meta evolution for playcallers across the NFL.Comment

Madden 04 through 08 were the best. I think 07 was unremarkable, but the others really stood out.

Best for ME....
I'll take '22. It's got the best overall package between a fun franchise offering and fun gameplay. They've continued improving the base each year once we got out of the abysmally dull and drab PS2/PS3 eras. (I know there are flaws...every Madden has them....but it truly is my favorite overall package right now).
The Madden '16 on-field gameplay is still amongst my favorite - but the franchise mode itself is so sadly outdated that it is unplayable for me these days.Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

I go with Madden 09 on the PS2. Only reason, it was the first Madden you could sim during gameplay on the PS2. 08 was great, but the ability of not being able to sim during that game and the previous titles knock it down a peg for me. I had numerous franchises going because of the new sim feature. I wish I could find the old copy books I had of year to year records.
I had normal sims, along with a full recreated 32 team franchise. Teams that were fantastic or absolutely horrible, I'd import and mix and match. Miss those days.Comment

Best for me is either Madden 05 or 08.
Others that hold a special place in my heart is Madden 2001 on PC. Spent a ton of time just creating teams and playing with NFL Europe squads.
Madden 92 on the Genesis was my first and the one I have the most memories of playing. From the intro theme that gets stuck in your head for days to the ambulance running over players on the field. Not counting modded out Madden 19 and 20, it's Madden 22.

06 was really good. In some ways today's game is better but that was the last time I felt that I was getting a game that was pushing what a video game could do with the current technology.Comment

For me it's Madden 08 on ps2. The wealth of gameplay modes and options was overwhelming. Franchise was deep. Minicamp was fun to play. You could set up scenarios. Export your franchise teams. The rushing attack was fun against friends and you could actually train with the ball carrier moves against the defense 1 on 1. The list goes on. But madden today doesn't hold me the same way it did back in the ps2 days because everything feels so samey in every franchise today. It's better this year for sure but it just doesn't pull me in the same way that even M12 did which is another one that was really good. The ps4 gen was a wash for me in terms of fun factor and longevity.
