    Tackling Slider

    Simple question.

Does the tackling slider improve run defense awareness/recognition for the user/cpu?

I know by boosting it, it will increase successful tackles, but will it also increase TFLs, and gap assignments?

    Thanks!

    Re: Tackling Slider

People say that it also improves pursuit angles. That may be true. I do play with a raised tackle slider.

I think one change that many people dont think about, but probably has the biggest impact on run defense, and defense overall, outside of the run blocking slider is the speed threshold slider. The higher you raise it, the better the defense fills gaps and contains the edge. On the default 50 the game is tuned to be much more wide open than real NFL football because the front 7 cannot get to the gaps and edges as quickly as the offensive players.

The more you raise the threshold slider the more able the front 7 is to get where they need to be in a timely manner.

I personally use a 95 threshold as testing has shown that is the most authentic value plus we have had a former EA employee confirm that was the most accurate setting in the past and EA knew that in house.

At 95 you'll see defenses are much more able to play the run, especially the outside running plays that have traditionally been easy to exploit.

Thanks for the response. Currently I using my own slider set and I am looking to get my main chise going, but the cpu run defense is too squishy.

Tackling slider is up to 54 and threshold is at 75.

        Re: Tackling Slider

Instead of touching the Slider which impacts a multitude of things on both sides of the ball for all Players, why not just edit the “Pursuit Rating” of various players/starters to “90+”?

This keeps Player Differentiation and is more of a direct application to what you’re trying to accomplish without adjusting other gameplay aspects you never intended to adjust.

Defenders esp LB’s mostly are rated at 85 max.
        - Safeties with 90+ Pursuit will attack the line right as RB gets to LOS instead of 7+ yrds after crossing.
        - LB’s will fill very fast and even over-pursue creating cutback lanes.

Tackle Slider opens/closes RB tackle avoidance (ie Break Tackle rating) impact leading to a lot of 1 tackler stops.

        Just another way.

My favorite slider in Madden for years because it also triggers specific animations

I use it up high for CPU to help their pursuit of the ball but love it lower for User to allow CPU ball carriers to generate yards on the ground while also triggering some of their animations

Too bad EA ties this slider into both tackling and Block shedding

But doesn’t that just kill the passing game?

You are correct in the believing that player rating edits are a valid way to improve gameplay. I know people don't like to do it because of how much work it can be, and incoming draft classes will not have similar ratings, but I have found that editing ratings is the most effective way to get realistic gameplay on the field.

I don't just mean for the tackle slider, but for all ratings...or at least the most critical ones for each position. EA puts out a fun, somewhat arcade type game and much of what happens on the field is due to how guys are rated. Sliders can only take you so far, and we all know the rabbit hole you can go down when you start changing various sliders.

Ratings by EA are better than what they used to be in past iterations, especially years ago, but they could be so much better. A good example of what editing ratings can do is to play with Iteachpercussion's 1990 roster file. He does edit ratings and it shows on the field for sure. A much better looking and playing game.

What platform is that guys (1990s) roster on?

                    Re: Tackling Slider

The tackling slider appears to change the range for which a tackling animation can occur. I was dealing with a lot of suction tackles earlier in the year where I was running through the line and D-Linemen were suddenly able to go from engaged in a block to making a tackle in two frames. Lowering the slider fixed that issue.

In past editions of Madden as well as the NCAA Football series, yes,it has a direct effect on if the WRs can get separation from whoever is covering them. I believe the lower the slider number the greater speed disparity(meaning the quicker and faster players will not be caught from behind by a player who is alot slower).
