FIFA 22 First Impressions (PS5) - Pleasant Surprise So Far

It's always nice getting my hands on FIFA 22 early and this year was no exception....

I'm playing on the One X, but my first impressions are also really good.

The one thing that may take some getting used to is the Pro cam for playing. I started using this in 21 and kind of grew to love it. It's a more close up version of End to End. But in 22, the way the camera swings feels way off, and I'm not sure I will stick with it.

It's not a big deal, because the default cams are all great. But I really like the feel of playing with that camera, when the transitions from player to player and from pass to pass happen more smoothly.

I'm really looking forward to the Volta stuff. I'm not sure I'm as excited about their need to make everything style, but if it is fun, I'll give a try.

I'm probably going to pre-ordered the vanilla XB1 version. I have no idea when I will get a Series X.

I am enjoying the game, but I also enjoyed the beta. Coming from a strictly PES player I enjoy the slower pace. I can see the variety in playing styles slightly.

I am playing on the Xbox Series X, so I think the graphics are great. I can tell they toned the ping pong passing down from the beta and defending is slightly easier. I even saw the CPU crossing the ball, but I haven't really seen the long shots.

I do wish playing defense was easier and there were more fouls.

        So far so good...

Is CPU's defense better? How's overall gameplay, very fast or? Is it trash like Fifa 21?

I think the game is very good but probably not different enough from '21 to justify a purchase from me.

Career mode literally hasn't been touched, and I play that almost exclusively. The gameplay is a little smoother, and there are some nice new animations. Some little bits and pieces are still a little glitchy or funky - like lobbed passes - but they'll be ironed out no doubt.

The CM defensive issues are better but still entirely fixed. The same goes with the AI crossing. You see them occasionally now but still get relentless dribbling in obvious crossing situations from time to time.

'21 was good, and '22 is a little better. If '21 was a 7/10, '22 would be a 7.5. Personally, I'm not spending £60+ for such a marginal upgrade, but it definitely is an upgrade.

Playing on PS5 and the first thing I noticed from last year is the speed difference. The game is a lot slower and you have to finally play a semblance of “real football” against the AI

Also, the graphics and presentation in this game are unmatched to any sports game out there. How anyone can say this game looks bad or the presentation isn’t up to snuff is beyond me. Playing a champions league game at the Etihad is a thing of beauty. I was in awe at the graphics and the crowd immersion

This sounds good enough for me.  I have zero faith in Konami getting a proper next gen version together any time soon, and I need a footy game in my life.

I honestly enjoyed my offline experience with FIFA 21, so if this is better than that I can't complain.

I like it, I typically do early in the cycle before the exploits start become the norm. I am encouraged by the improvements on next gen (sorry previous gen folk). Are they enough? Probably not, but I think they are steps in the right direction.

I enjoy the fan mail I get online after building up (really just connecting more than 5 passes) and being accused of parking the bus. At least for now methodical attack-building is a viable option. I will continue my annual prayer that release gameplay isn't patched to ruin by Christmas.

I'm also not a CM player, so I'm not hung up on how good or bad the offline experience is. I honestly can't remember the last time I played more than 2 seasons in a CM and the mode itself hardly gets updated, so it's just not relevant to me.

Sorry but presentation wise no sports game can come even close to what nba 2k has to offer, did you ever play that? Fifa actually is quite bland in this aspect. Especially the commentary gets worse and worse every year. There is totally no player/team specific commentary like 2k

I've played 2 games on World Class (I know, I know) but, as Man City I beat Arsenal 2-0

Second game against Liverpool ended in a 0-0 draw.

Goalkeepers are out of this world in this game, or it's just harder to bury a shot. I do love that it's no longer a goal fest.

I've been playing NBA 2K since the year 1999. Their presentation is good, but it doesn't match FIFA. The crowd noise and reactions in 2K are absolutely bland and completely takes away from the experience. I've been hearing the same commentary in 2K for close to half a decade now, it needs a major overhaul.

Crowd noise and immersion can't be touched when it comes to FIFA. No sports game does it better than them.

Have to strongly disagree in regards to presentation and crowd immersion, respectfully.

Whilst the graphic overlays are very good in FIFA, the commentary (a major part of presentation) is nothing short of a disgrace given the tech available, money EA are pulling in from the game and the decades of experience. It was much better with Tyler and smith. 22 is a massive downgrade from 21, it’s generic, vague and very infrequent.

MLB the show is far superior. Madden too- the commentary is superb.

Crowd reactions and noise have gone backwards too. The crowd looks slightly better this year BUT the movement is very jerky during slow motion replays and crowd camera shots- PS2 PES esq.

The reactions to what’s happening on the pitch are way off, both visually and audibly. Home fans will jump up and down when the away team score for example. Celebrations don’t match the importance of the goal.

Chants are the same old songs, nothing new has been added for years.

For some reason some PL fans are waiving massive flags during gameplay- which doesn’t happen in England. That’s immersion breaking!

The dynamic attendance is good, fans leaving etc. however it just exposes the horrendous seat graphics…compare how an empty seat looks in the show next to fifa and you’ll see what I mean.

Immersion and reality are getting worse each year. Whoever’s responsible clearly aren’t experts, I’d go as far as saying they’re clueless in some regards. I’d happily help them get it right for free in order to make the game as good as it should be, they’re way off- again.

Have to disagree wholeheartedly on your statement. I play 2k and FIFA on a yearly basis and 2K's presentation is hands down better in every way. Lol
