Batting patience

Hi,

I am a English man new to the sport thought I would branch out from Madden and NFL and learn another America sport.
Its a pretty simple sport to learn the basics rules but tactics and strategies not so much but its something I am enjoying learning as i go.

My question to you? Where did you learn your batting patience, what makes you think in the split second that this is the pitch I am swinging on

Right now I feel i swing to early to often instead of laying off and getting head on the count.

So any tips I'd be grateful, thanks

Re: Batting patience

Pay attention the point of release and track it from there. After awhile your brain can predict where the ball will end up for the most part. My strike outs are mostly looking and rarely swinging and I have a solid on base percentage.

Batting practice, batting practice, batting practice. Practice against each type of pitch so you'll get used to how these pitches break or not break and perfect your timing.

Good luck.

Edit: Unless it's right down the middle, lay off the first pitch. Force the pitcher to throw a first pitch strike. More often than not, you'll be up 1-0 then 2-0 ...

Re: Batting patience

There is no replacement for experience, however if you want to accelerate the process I know a few tips.

First of all, make sure you're playing on the settings that are right for you. The difficulty level and the pitch speed sliders both impact pitch speeds. This is only a visual slowdown for the human player, the CPU is unaffected by any change in pitch speeds.

Once that's dialed in, I like to use physical reenforcment in order to help with timing and pitch selection. When I swing at a bad pitch to swing at, I flick myself. When I take a bad pitch to swing at, I pat myself lightly on the back. I've got other tricks, but that is probably the biggest one that turned me from a free-swinging machine into a zen, discipline master. I know I sound like an infomercial when I say that, but it really was that drastic of a change.
