Can't believe they haven't fixed this yet. And he hasn't been in the live rosters in a few days. Just annoying.

What do you mean fix this? Ohtani plays in the American League, which has the designated hitter rule. He has never hit on the same day he pitches unless it’s an inter league game in a national league stadium

No I mean you can't use him as a position player or DH in the live rosters.

This is factually wrong.

The other day he started at pitcher and batted in the lineup. Angels brought in a reliever and then put Ohtani in the OF so he could hit next inning and then took him out of the game.

An AL team has the option to use a DH but could hit their pitcher instead. On occasion a DH has to then be put at a fielding position mid game and at that point the pitchers have to hit.

Actually he hit the same day he pitched just the other day.....they did that and forewent the DH...I thought you could do this in the game with some wonky workaround

You can, though I believe this only works in Franchise mode.

This workaround works best when you are the home team, and start in the field, as the "substitution" can only be done when in the field.

Step 1. When starting the game, compose your lineup with the previous game's starting pitcher at a position (NOT DH), and in the spot in the lineup you want the pitcher to hit. Have the player at the DH position be the player you want playing at the position that the last game starting pitcher is set at.

Step 2. While in the field, go to substitutions, and move the current DH to the position that the last game starting pitcher is in. This will move the current DH to that position, and put the current pitcher in the lineup in the spot where the last game starting pitcher was at. It will eliminate the DH, and the pitcher will hit for the remainder of the game.

The reason I put the previous game's starting pitcher in that spot, is that way you don't unnecessarily burn a bench position player.

EXAMPLE LINEUP when starting the game.
1. David Fletcher, 2B
2. Dylan Bundy, CF
3. Mike Trout, DH
4. Anthony Rendon, 3B
5. Justin Upton, LF
6. Jared Walsh, 1B
7. Dexter Fowler, RF
8. Jose Iglesias, SS
9. Max Stassi, C

Now, after moving the DH (in this case Trout) to the CF spot (Occupied by the previous game's starter, Bundy) the lineup will look as follows....

1. David Fletcher, 2B
2. Shohei Ohtani, P
3. Mike Trout, CF
4. Anthony Rendon, 3B
5. Justin Upton, LF
6. Jared Walsh, 1B
7. Dexter Fowler, RF
8. Jose Iglesias, SS
9. Max Stassi, C

Again, making this substitution can only be done while IN THE FIELD, it cannot be done while at bat.

SO, if you are the road team, and are batting first, this workaround cannot be used until you are in the field.

Okay so a technicality. What I meant is he cannot hit as a pitcher. You would have to do what you described. Move him over to a position and then bat him. I don’t think you have ever been able to do this in the show but I could be wrong
