How well does the CPU manage the roster/lineup/depth in March to October? I don't want to spend too much time managing it myself and just want to play the games.

There isn't much to manage. There are no injuries, and no minor leagues to control.

You are occasionally given a prompt for a trade opportunity or call up opportunity. Lineups and rotations stick.
