For those of you that weren't able to try out the EA Play NHL 21 trial, or pre-order the NHL 21 Great Eight Edition, to get it 3 days earlier, NHL 21 is now available worldwide on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

I just put in the slider settings for offline play from Al_Tito13 and played two offline games with the NY Islanders and Bridgeport Soundtigers.
The gameplay with these settings felt more natural from skating, board plays and especially from behind the net.
The AI in positioning in NHL 21 in Offline-Games is definitely improved on defense with teammates on breakouts and special teams. All feels smoother and animations and gameplay more natural than in NHL 20.
Goalies also got an upgrade in behavior and animations.
I like the gameplay so far...
Player creation tools and possibilities have remained all the same and you can not edit the mugs that EA delivers on prospects and players, which I can not understand why they do not let them edit for the better in likeliness... -

As far as I found out you have made the preorder for the game. You only can play the Stanley Cup final with the trial without a preorder. Main menu is locked. Maybe you have time to check the new scanned faces and post some pics in my Player face scan Thread ? Would be interested how many and which Player got. Thx !Comment

When you have the preorder you can download whole game and play all modes on EA Play for 10 hours. It could be that when you have downloaded and started on PS4 that the rest of the game is actually downloaded until complete you only can play the Stanley Cup Finals.
As for scanned faces I will check tomorrow for us and can then post as you suggested.Comment

I've had EA Access for over 5 years.You could always play the full game even without the pre order.Never heard of this.Whats up with EA Play lately, doesn't even show NHL 21 in its trial section,had to download it from store.Comment

Just confirmed via YouTube roster reveal that there is no Kirill Kaprizov in game and 2020 draft picks are not on their real teams. The NHL is talking about starting the season in January so we won’t even get a roster update for 3 months.
What’s the point in even buying this game and not sticking with ‘20 of the rosters are going to be the sane????
The weird one is Kaprizov not being in. The have Mikhail Grigorenko in and he has been playing in the KHL for a few years. Him and Kaprizov both signed their contract on the same day this year July 13thComment

Grigorenko played his first NHL game in the 2012-13 season. They already have full rights to use him as he's part of the Player's Association
Kaprizov hasn't played one game, you won't see him in the game until he has. Has been that way forever. Just because they've signed for the club, doesn't mean they're in the NHLPA and the NHL can use their likeness however they want.
Really, this is out of EA's hands. This falls under a way larger legal umbrella. It's 100% COVID's fault, but there's truly nothing EA could do in this case unless they were to go and negotiate with every rookie to get the rights to use them in their game, which would be an asinine business decision when they could just wait a few months and get them for freeComment

Yeah but Grigorenko has played in the KHL for the last two seasons. Does the PA always hold your rights even if you leave to play in another league? Also, EA had jack Hughes in last years game and he was considered an amateur playing for the USNDT, and had never played an NHL game. So EA has ways to get around it.
I would argue that Kirill Kaprizov is one of the best international players to come to NHL in years, and is regarded by most experts as a sure fire superstar. He should be made a priority considering we won’t even be having a season until 2021.
If they don’t get some kind of roster update going in the meantime I am just going to stick with ‘20 until January, and buy the game when it’s $20 bucksComment

Back to impressions for the people that have played the game.
Can you comment on how the CPU is on Superstar? The gameplay in 20 was absolutely horrible on Superstar because you'd have ping pong passing by the CPU in your zone where all you could really do is watch 70 OVR players do no look, behind the back, bullet passes.Comment

just playing the loading stanley cup game and the thing that leaps out instantly is how different the skating is. players dont have that traditional on ice glidey feel, if that makes sense. you can stop and start with a lot more control. it feels kinda weird to be honest but in a great way.
My plan was to hold off on this till later in the year and 8 definitelyneed more than just 1 game but so far so good. I'm really enjoying the extra control.2016 NLL Champion Saskatchewan Rush
