IMO, the franchise mode or any other mode improvements for that matter, are irrelevant if the game isn't fun to play. The "franchise is a joke" appears to be nothing more than a trendy thing to jump on and be apart of it. Why not do this 5 years ago. I believe youtube and twitter have been around since 2006?

Is Gameplay or Franchise more important to you?
I ask this because Madden is designed for on the field play and that has been the major gripe ever since EA was granted the exclusive license. I'm an offline player so the franchise mode was important but it seems like some are willing to ignore the gameplay shortcomings if the franchise mode is improved. Do you buy Madden and not play it but instead use it like Head Coach or a text sim?

Gameplay. If the hook on the field isn't good, then I can just go back to playing Head Coach or go play OOTP etc. and get a better experience than any normal franchise mode. Obviously both matter, but yeah, there's a clear one thing before the other.I won't ask for Christmas or birthday gifts if you subscribe to the Operation Sports Newsletter (Not Just Another Roster Update). I write it, and it hits your inbox every Friday morning (for freeeeeee). We also have an official OS Discord you can now join. -

It's probably 55-45 Gameplay-Franchise for me. They have to work together and if one is terrible, it's going to drag down the other. I largely had a lot of fun with Madden 20 and enjoyed playing the games but completely stopped and quit my franchise because of how terrible the mode is. Then if it's the other way around where gameplay is terrible, it means nothing to have a deep franchise experience because it's a struggle to continuously play.
I give the edge to gameplay because even with franchise as bad as it is, having fun on the field still gives you some good run while if it's the other way around, I'm probably not making it through one season.Comment

Re: Is Gameplay or Franchise more important to you?
Gameplay is more important to me but both are very important and both are bad in Madden. I’ve given up. Stopped buying the game two years ago. Very few resources are put into any offline features. Cpu AI is bad. Sliders broken and limited. Only a few camera angles with no zoom or height options. And the franchise mode lacks depth, options and realism.
There are so many things wrong and barely changed for the offline only gamer, I quit buying Madden and I rarely come into Madden forums anymore either. What’s the point? EA doesn’t care about gamers like me anymore and so I don’t care about them and refuse to buy their substandard product.Comment

Yeah i'm the same. For me, the gameplay in M20 made it one of the most fun games for me and I went crazy deep into franchise even though it's the same mode as always. This is why I'm so glad Clint is still there. He is working hard and doing a lot for the game. John White too with the playbooks. Those two areas Madden is really doing well in right now.Comment

Re: Is Gameplay or Franchise more important to you?
Gameplay is obviously the most important piece but madden does neither very well. We cant throw a fade route in 2020. We could in 05 tho on another game lol. Franchise is important for replay ability IMO. I dont want to keep playing a bunch a play now games. Gets boring quickComment

Gameplay. APF 2k8 is still heralded as the best, most organic playing football video game ever and didn't even have a franchise mode.
Even playing through a single season TODAY in APF is a satisfying experience because of its gameplay still being more advanced than Madden's in some key areas.
And with the help of King Javo's editor, you can use updated NFL rosters, teams, etc and play multiple seasons with stat tracking, injuries, etc. So, in essence ,Javo's editor is to APF 2k8 as SABO's mods are to Madden 20 on PC.Comment

Re: Is Gameplay or Franchise more important to you?
I'm probably 50/50 or maybe 51/49 franchise to gameplay.
The only gameplay I get is through playing Franchise. So when that's not even good enough for me to want to turn the game on, I don't get to the gameplay.
And as for gameplay recently, it's gotten a little better but, I mean, it's 2020 and we still can't even shift AND motion during the same play like we could in APF 2k8....Comment

Re: Is Gameplay or Franchise more important to you?
I see franchise mode as gameplay also. Making managerial decisions and the likes is still gameplay.
Since you're asking if on field gameplay is more important than off field, I'm going to lean on field gameplay slightly. APF proved for me I can play a game a whole lot even if it doesn't have a franchise mode as long as the on field gameplay is elite.
That said, I can also put up with okay gameplay if the franchise mode is of good quality. Maximum football has decent gameplay. It's not elite like 2k, it's not absolute garbage, it's okay, yet I can handle it because in one year they created a dynasty mode that basically rivals NCAA 13 or 14. Now, NCAA had an okay dynasty mode, it was lacking at the time, so Maximum Football's is just okay also, but the difference is the game cost me $20 and was created basically by one man. That dynasty mode is already improving and if they implement everything they plan to this year in an efficient manner, the dynasty mode in that game might surpass that of any other NCAA game.
And with their plan over the next 3 to 4 years, if they hit their goals like they have already, it'll have a franchise mode that will rival just about any other precious football game, AAA's included.
Essentially, both are very important. If it has amazing gameplay I can deal with a lackluster franchise mode, even the lack of one if the gameplay is elite like 2k8. I can also deal with average gameplay if the franchise mode is of good quality like Maximum Football.
Heck, I'd be perfectly fine with Madden's gameplay if the franchise mode wasn't so bad. I guess maybe in the end I actually value off field gameplay more despite what 2k8 told me.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Re: Is Gameplay or Franchise more important to you?
Franchise. Only because it’s been neglected for so long. I’ve been waiting for a real franchise mode since before Madden crossed into the 360/ps3 generation. I just don’t think it should take an immense amount of time or resources to improve it. So I’d like to see one madden cycle dedicated to improving the mode, then build on it a little for a couple years as they go back to heavier gameplay additions.Comment

There is no reason for it to be an either or. Resources are limited, but updating game play is not the reason for the middle finger EA gave its core customer base.Originally posted by Therebelyell626I am going to create a team called "the happy town fundament rapscallions" and hurt your already diminishing image

Re: Is Gameplay or Franchise more important to you?
Franchise honestly, by about the same margin as the 2016 election. I always said gameplay until APF2K8 came out, which played great but had no longevity to me because of no franchise mode. I don't really play any other mode aside from dabbling in MUT while waiting for rosters to be released. Without franchise, the games just seem meaningless to me.
