    RTTS needs a total revamp

I bought a Ps3 and PS4 for the show, always loved the series, but this gen is the first time it feels like Sony San Diego has at times mailed it in..This entire gen has seen little meaningful changes/updates especially RTTS.

It is 2020, PS4 is 7 years old soon.

    1. RTTS has the same canned Dialog responses, it is very poorly done. This needs a total overhaul or remove it, it's so bad right now. The game could use some kind of overall popularity progression, based on your actions and performance I could be seen as a villian type player.

    2. I always get drafted in the late rounds, no matter what, this is idiotic.

    3. AI logic is literally broken. I got called up when I was 19, was the best hitter in all of MLB, won ROTY, next season, I am sitting on the bench and have less then 100 AB's all season, because the AI Logic does not take into consideration your performance. The AI is also not smart enough to rotate outfielders to any other position then your one secondary position.... This has been an issue for years and it seems to get zero attention.

4: Things like a Trophy Room, why is there no option to train in the offseason?

5: There is zero reason to have money/contracts in this game. Games like NBA 2k has done far more with their Career modes.

    6. Why can't I reach out to my agent sometimes instead of waiting half a season to get a random call?

    7. Any kind of story mode? The Game still feels isolated, I don't feel a part of a league, were is the league news? Why can;t I see myself in the paper ?

8: Presentation has been stale for years.

Is San Diego a small team and just don't have the respources? RTTS needs a tonne of work, and some new ideas. Franchise also needs some updates but this thread I am focused on RTTS .

All valid points. I like the old system of manual application of training points better. I like having more control over what aspects of my player's game develops. It was also a good way to cut through the prolonged farm system journey. If you wanted to get a guy into the show more quickly, you could use stubs to acquire training points and increase your player's ratings very quickly. I would also like to have more input on where my guy hits in the lineup. I know it's not realistic for a player to decide where he hits, but at the same time, the AI manager's lineups frequently don't make very much sense.

Good points there I’m mostly a franchise player and it’s too bad the training systems are just not important at all in this game. In a franchise mode they are just practicality just not there and for RTTS I just stopped playing it because it’s just not fun to me anymore and that’s a shame. SDS has everything they need to do a better job with the games development even with all we have going on in the country right now. It all starts with the way they manage development of the game and the quantity of the choices they make at the top and right now it just feels pretty weak.

I agree Road to The Show does get rather boring quickly, im not sure what the solution can be as I feel career modes in NBA and Madden also can get boring rather quickly

Does anybody agree with me that the manual training points allocation system was a better system?

Re: RTTS needs a total revamp

I have to add a few more things that drive me crazy about RTTS:
It takes too long to take your lead when baserunning and you cant do a walking lead into a steal.
My RTTS is a 3rd baseman, and it seems that the opponent tries to drop a bunt 5-6 times a game. I understand if its a speedy runner, but when its the number 4 hitter leading off the inning or the pitcher with no outs no one on?
Last, why is my character always running when playing the field? I can't just run to cover third when the ball is in play, even if its just a few steps. He takes off on a sprint and his momentum keeps him going.

I forgot to add, I have already been traded 3 times and I haven't been in the Majors for 2 full seasons. ROTY, MVP, Gold Glove. Not very realistic.

I agree completely. NHL also went away from manually putting in your training points to the areas you want and I hate it.

I miss the ability to watch/play just the results pitch of every batter that they had in old gen. Watching every pitch is too long, but only seeing plays I’m involved in doesn’t make me feel “in” to the game enough.

And I hate how quick the sim is. I can’t keep up with what’s happening and end up having to scroll back up to see what happened.

Revamp is a subjective term. One man's revamp is another's regression.

revamp: an act of improving the form, structure, or appearance of something.

If improving something is a regression, well, I hope that person can handle the regression.

Oh yes I agree long post incoming

MLB The Show's Road To the show career mode is one of the oldest career modes in Sports video games since it made it's debut with MLB 06 The Show right after Maddens superstar mode. So it's disappointing that it's gotten stale compared to other career modes out there.

                          Character creation

                          Age

In the older RTTS games I think the last time we could do this was around 11 or 13 I forget which one that we could start our player at 40 years old ever wonder if you could create an old Vladimir Guerrero or Julio Franco and see if he can keep up with the current generation of players? Maybe you want to try out something like Jim Morris did in the Rookie and start out at 35 years old? Furthermore the forced retirement at 45 years old needs to stop. At least extend it to 10 more years at 55 years old. Jamie Moyer and Julio Franco played until they were 49 years old.

In order for this to work instead of attending the Topps Amateur showcase it's replaced by a pro day where you would tryout for different teams doing drills. It would all lead up to a spring training invite play well end up on the roster or start in AAA

                          <iframe src="https://player.vimeo.com/video/33833077" width="640" height="360" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; fullscreen" allowfullscreen></iframe>

                          <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/gjkg_p912jo" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

This also works for international players. Right now in RTTS you can create an International player and you go through the showcase and get drafted. The problem is that international players don't get drafted they get signed as free agents.

Now some people probably don't care. I do for immersion If I create an International player I don't want to get drafted I want to go through what international players do and get signed as an Free Agent by working out in front of various scouts and teams.

Depending on how well you do during these workouts depends how many offers you get and how much money.

Also the international spending pool money that teams have available can also impact you. Some teams might be interested but can only offer you a little bit of money because they have already spent all of their international spending pool money.

This probably won't ever make it to any version of the show but If I create a player from Japan or Korea I want to be posted in the posting system. Teams would compete against each other to outbid the other in order to get the rights to negotiate with you. Then come to terms on a major league contract.

It would also allow us to create 25 year old or older MLB ready players for RTTS. Since Microtransactions are out of the mode we could create a 25 year old MLB ready international player that starts with a 72-75 Overall and gets a spring training invite. Play well in Spring training and make the MLB roster or if you play below expectations you get sent to the Minors.

                          Manager interactions
Let me ask for a position change anytime I want, complain about my spot in the lineup, ask for more playing time, change my role (Starting pitcher to bullpen etc).

                          Playable Single A

                          <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/308B4SobpKk" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I've always found it odd that we start out in AA. Sure a couple of guys might start out in AA but the majority of guys start out in Rookie or in one of the A level leagues. I'm not sure about how the show is going to handle Next Gen on PS5 and other consoles, but Single A, or A Advanced should at least be playable. It really makes that progression from the minors to the majors feel much more significant imo. Memory limits can't be an excuse this time imo.

                          Free agency

Free Agency needs to be improved we need to be able to ask for a no trade clause as as well as being wined and dined by many different teams. Let me tell my agent which teams I want to sign with in addition to receiving offers from interested teams. Much like NBA 2k

This is what we have in the show and I'm not a fan of it

This right here is unacceptable. Yeah "realism" slow market yada yada but I should be able to start negotiations with any team. Whether or not we reach and agree to a contract is another thing.

Right now you just receive random offers what if I want to sign with the Brewers but they don't offer you a contract right now you have to wait until spring training to "try out" for them and then they offer you a contract and that's if you make the team there have been a couple times where I failed to make the team and remained a free agent the entire season which sucked. That's right an entire season went by without my player playing a single game.
Allow us to ask for a no trade clause in our contracts that would come in handy later on because as we know the CPU GM's are a little crazy when it comes to trades.

which brings me to my next point agents.

Right now we have an Agent but they hardly do anything you can't even talk to him he calls you only twice a year. We should be able to hire/fire an agent. Each agent comes with different benefits. The difference between the Scott Boras type agent and not should be significant.

As our players get older we might have to sign minor league contracts To show that we can still play

As well as allowing us to request to be released from our contracts during the season Maybe you feel you aren't going to get called up anytime soon and you're getting older and don't want to waste your time.

                          Money

Now that you have that agent and just signed that 10 year $300 Million contract. Money from your contracts should be used to purchase drills when you're on the bench and not getting any playing time it would be nice to purchase some drills to keep your player from declining. Now that Perks are a part of the game how about we use our money to buy some perks? You can buy any of the existing perks to even getting on a training program or diet that decreases the effects of age/stats declining.

Include performance bonuses into our contracts they could work similar to the contract goals that were back in MLB 06 and MLB 07. If the goal is make 500 plate appearances or hit 25 or more home runs you would get a raise or if we make the all star game, win an award (MVP, Silver Slugger, Batting title, Gold glove ,etc..) we should get a raise.

                          The Fans

One thing that could be a nice addition would be the fans holding up signs about your player as you come up to bat.

They can say different things if your contract is expiring they should hold up signs saying "please stay" or "Re$ign him". Some could be funny holding up signs saying "Marry me." Fans get angry they should hold up signs saying "Trade him". If it's against a rival they should say "You suck" and if it's your former team signs should say "We miss you" and "Please come back".

                          Batting Cages
                          <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/82Cd_LNQSgc" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

(Those clothes would be welcome when we head down there or when doing drills.)

There should be batting cages similar to NBA 2k's practice facility or MyCourt you can come here work on your swing or try out a new batting stance or maybe you just feel like hitting. What we have now puts you into a drill and you don't really get to practice that well. This would not be a drill and you do not gain anything.

                          Stats stats and more stats

                          <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/wD4xuIT3li0" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Baseball is a game of stats. We need to be recognized for breaking stats including more team records. I'd also like a better player card to really keep track of our stats.

                          Give our player a voice

                          <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/1-rBk1ZSW48" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Whether or not we need a story mode idk I'm not sure that it'd work well and also taking carryover saves and all into account too. But one thing we do need is voices for our player. Being able to answer questions after a game would really bring some much needed life to the mode. One of the things that I love about the NBA 2k series is that our player actually talks with an actual voice it's not text based. I was blown away when I played NBA 2k11 for the first time and how they kept on adding more to it through the years even though I'm not a fan of the scripted stories being able to hear my created player speak still gets me excited all these years later. I'd like to see that in The show.

Keep it simple maybe 2 or 3 questions after a game and make them appear only occasionally on the field, and in the locker room maybe you had a good game or it's the playoffs where are the lights and cameras are on you. We should be asked questions for all star games, and whenever we get traded/sign with a new team.

This isn't the minors anymore in the majors the crowds are bigger you are playing in large cities now not small towns, your staying at classy expensive hotels on the road, and ride the teams private jet not the bus, you get more attention all the cameras are on you now.

                          Misc stuff

If we get injured let us rehab in the minors

I'd say even let us choose where we want to rehab.

                          Pitcher/catcher meetings.

As a catcher we should be able to Call timeout and talk to the pitcher. Same thing as a pitcher we should be able to call timeout ask to be taken out if the manager leaves you in too long or if the manager wants to take you out let us tell him that we can stay in and finish the game.

Also we need to be able to know our pitchers better maybe add a couple of drills or something. We already have chemistry in I'm not sure how it works with Pitchers as I haven't created a catcher in years. But with lower chemistry they may decline your signals and throw a different pitch a higher chemistry they will listen to you.

Speaking of chemistry we need some goofing around with teammates.

Your debut and your potential. If I'm an A potential. When I get called up my debut should be hyped up and intimidating.

Minor league spring training camp. Right now you can't play in spring training if you don't get a spring training invite. Problem is minor leaguers do go to spring training just not Big league spring training. There should be a big league camp and minor league camp. Even If you get invited to Big league camp but perform badly you could end up reassigned to minor league camp.

The ability to influence position changes, lineup spot and trades would be nice. In fact, the ability to override the manager and set the lineup yourself would be nice. I know it's not realistic (there hasn't been a player-manager in the bigs in decades) but just having the option would be nice. If I lead the team in avg, slugg, ops and RBI, I should not be hitting 6th lol.

Don't know if there is an audience for it but an online multiplayer Sandlot mode similar to park/neighborhood in NBA 2k.

Call it the Sandlot maybe even allow you to create your own sandlot. Games would be like 6 innings or so. Make the fields smaller and you would change positions every inning. Gameplay would be a bit more arcadish.
