Or will it be fully loaded?

I don't think I would consider XB1/PS4 2k14 bare-boned. That game had much more content than the XB360/PS3 version. There were more gameplay mechanics implemented as well.

We must be talking about two different games. NBA 2K14 had some gameplay improvements by default, but it was definitely barebones and simplistic. NBA 2K6 was the same way when they moved from the XBOX/PS2 to the XB360/PS3 generation. I would imagine that NBA 2K21 will be no different.

XB1's 2k14's mycareer had an actual story. XB360 in comparison had none.

XB1's 2k14 had the park. XB360 had none.

XB1's 2k14 MyTeam had entirely different content. 2k14 had the same basic cards from 2k13.

XB1's 2k14 had MyGM, an entirely new franchise experience.

        How is that bare-boned?

Yep, I actually bought 2K14 on xbox360.... then a month later I bought it again, on xb1. I had to after seeing the park.
I literally saw the park and I went out and bought an xb1 and got on xbox live for the first time, just because I saw the park.

It's going to be a bit tricky this time around.

PS5/Xbox Series X can both play their last gen versions thru BC. The difference will probably more about ray tracing effects for next gen versions while gameplay wise it would be still the same with nba 2k21 ps4/xbox one versions especially both had mid gen upgrades like PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. All i'm saying is it won't probably be like the transition from ps3 to ps4, xbox 360 to xbox one.

I need to fire up my NBA 2K14 again. I swear the transition wasn't that big, or maybe I'm comparing it to the later installments by mistake. I felt like NBA 2K14 on the XB360 was a more complete game than it was on XB1.

I think the transition to next gen will be more seamless this time around. PS5 Architecture is based on PS4 architecture so it shouldn't be that hard porting things over. Not sure about Xbox but I would assume it's similar.

They've invested too much dev time into MyLeague, MyGm, and MyCareer for them just to throw it away and restart on next gen.

I honestly only see graphics improving, mainly through a resolution upgrade.

XB360 2ks were 5/6GBs max. Now 2k games are 80GBs. With a normal console disk space of 500GB-1TB it shouldn't(it might, but I don't think it should) get much higher than 100GB per game.

Since next gen consoles are going to have built in SSDs instead of HDDs their capacity will probably stay the same. Unless that article about the PS5 being $599 is true.

I was thinking the loss of the offline modes, create a legend , nba greatest etc,. Jordan mode, LeBron path to greatness, etc. I remember also being only able to save one freaking roster. That drove me nuts. The franchise mode was lacking a bit also. Not completely bare boned with the additions you mentioned but still in comparison,. Still lacking compared to other 2k offerings

Do you mean 2k14 as a whole or just the next-gen version? The Jordan Challenge and NBA greatest mode weren't in any version of 2k14. I don't remember create a legend being in 2k14 either, but I could have just forgotten about it.

They did take out Path to Greatness tho. I still feel like the additions more than made up for it.

While I don't foresee much being done in next gen beyond flashy stuff to appeal to casuals, one thing that really needs to be done is updating ratings.

And it would appeal to casuals as well because it's key to the modern game. 3 point ratings need to be expanded to reflect NBA reality. Right now you have one 3 point rating. just one. And on tendencies you have a 3 point tendency, a contested 3 point tendency, a stepback tendency, a pull up tendency, drive and pull up 3 tendency, etc. Well done to 2k on having all those tendencies. However the next step is first, having them done properly (at least it gives detailed roster makers a shot at fixing it though). The second step is extrapolating out the 3 point rating. Not all 3 point shooters are alike. One rating is silly. We need ratings for contested 3s, open 3s, corners 3, deep 3s, etc. Not just tendencies. And add a deep 3 tendency as well.

In today's game PJ Tucker may have the same rating for 3 as Eric Gordon, but Tucker is only going to hit open corner 3s 90% of the time. Gordon hits contested 3s. He's the better shooter. And that matters big time in today's NBA as top talent like Lillard, Young, Harden, Doncic, etc. are taking more and more deep 3s and others are taking more and more contested 3s. I know we have some badges dealing with shooting like difficult shots, bail out, clutch shooter, deadeye, green machine, range extender, steady shooter, tireless shooter, volume shooter, etc. But guess who has none of those badges? Both Robert Covington and PJ Tucker. Yet if you ask 100 basketball fans who you want taking anything but an uncontested corner 3 who they want shooting a 3 others places on the court, pulling up, with any D near, they are going to take Covington every time. Yet Covington has a 79 rating and Tucker an 80. The rating don't reflect the realities of the different types of shooters anymore. One rating does not fit all, even with the badges (which I'm no fan of anyway).

I'm sure there might some other categories that could use some expanding out but in 2002 with a 3-centric NBA, this seems a key area to work on with ratings and one that would have appeal to the casual my league player, not just franchise folks. The kids love the deep 3. They love the guys who can hit a contested 3 and those who can't.
