NBA 2k vs Watching Pelicans vs Rockets real life Wednesday night game

2k seriously messed up. They made there game so defensive that it’s not even a fun game to play anymore. Watching the Rockets vs Pelicans game where there is no Anthony Davis getting stymied by Chris Paul on a drive to the basket, there is complete freedom of movement has made me realize how horrible of a simulation NBA 2k19 really is. Anthony Davis finishing contested shots in the paint with extreme regularity and and perimeter players penetrating and turning the corner in tonight’s game makes 2k look like an eyesore to watch. I’m a complete and utter sim head but what I’ve seen so far in the NBA preseason and 2 days of regular season ball compared to a month an change of NBA 2k19 ball really makes me not want to pick up the game again only to be frustrated. Am I the only one that notices this?

In fairness, the NBA in real life has turned into a defensive joke the last few years. Generally speaking, once the Thibodeau Bulls and Grit & Grind Grizzlies broke up, defense was officially dead.

Watch any other basketball game. It’s not just Houston. New Orleans their opponent or any other NBA game. It’s a game of freedom of movement and not a bunch of meaningless unrealistic physicality

I get what your saying but...video games/ real life...just two separate worlds man. This thread always helps me appreciate that.

hurricane- if you want zero resistance in moving around you can pick up nba 2k18 and don't adjust any sliders.. You can trigger hip rides all day to the hoop
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

Great advice because that’s what I said in my original message. 🤨

I guess the ultimate point is that the way 2K18 did it was more realistic. I mean, if they would've just heavily beefed up the good defenders so that blow-by animation couldn't happen against them, it would've been fine.

If you have a bad or even mediocre slow defender on you, there absolutely should be an easy blow-by. That's how it is in real life. But in terms of balance, you compensate how easy it is to drive by making layups/dunks more difficult to hit. And it's not just this Pelicans/Rockets game, it's pretty much any real NBA game man.

2K18 blow-bys were too easy, yes, but I'd say only because it was easy to hit layups and especially contact dunks were triggering too often.

It can be balanced in a realistic manner, but they went way too far in the other direction. Can't stress it enough that with how the AI defenders play, very often would it be a foul in real life...

This is kinda why I really wished they would've had like an option for offline players to keep the 2K18 style defense if they want, just as an option. Sliders alone aren't enough to get rid of the psychic AI defense that plays up on you way too much. I've tried. The 2K19 hipride isn't the same as the 2K18 one, it's way less effective and slows you down so much even on bad defenders.

For all the flack 2K18 gets, it had the most realistic approach to the drive game. You rarely see guys get stonewalled in real life; rather, guys consistently get beat on the first step, which leads to players helping and rotating on defense.

The issue with 2K18 was that rotations didn't happen properly, leading people to hate the "blow bys."

Unfortunately, rather than try to fix the defense with proper help and rotations, they took the shortcut way out and just increased the amount of bumping, regardless of physics and momentum. Even off the ball, it's damn near impossible to get to your spot without getting stuck on a defender. Coupled with the ridiculously inhuman reaction speed of the CPU in the passing lanes, and it really is a major step backwards from a realism standpoint.

Yeah you can't really play iso and take guys off the dribble that's my issue with the game. If I'm using Kyrie and a big guy is guarding me I should be able to create some space with some dribble moves and hit a jumper or blow right by them and get help defense and kick out to the open guy. In 2K the defender will stay on me every time.

I can accept that 2k is a video game and only can do so much when you have to cater to the online world. But why is the game so damn slow though. Even with speed sliders is so sluggish. Running in sand.

Help defense and rotating has been 2ks biggest issue for years. This game has doesnt represent and professional bball anymore. Its all attempts to combat online now.

I know most of yall want give it a shot but Live is closer to sim bball in its current state. 2k has all the tools but need to separate the offline and online modes completely. Coming from a offline only guy.

I am enjoying park more this year than any other mode. I have always been a diehard MyLeague guy, but I can't seem to get into the games this year. I'll play 3-4 mins into the first quarter..become increasingly unsatisfied and go straight back to park. Weird how they can't just find a happy medium between last year and this year. A little hip riding is fine...not sure why we are back to brick walls. Also, when I see my opponent reacting to my input and not my man's movement I get upset lol. 2k18 park was doo doo, though..you gotta have both games to have the full package imo

While I understand it’s just a video game, I will say that no one lays it up like the standard standing layup in this game. I was looking closely in the Raptors game. No one uses those mini hook shots in the restricted area. Guys use the backboard or move their hand closer to the hoop and finger roll/pop it in. Especially the big guys. There’s also no long extended gathers to do layups. They’re fast and smooth.

The fact that this is a thread comparing a video game to real life just makes me realize how far we have came in gaming! Fact is, a video game will likely never be a 1:1 comparison to real life. People can move freely however they want but a computer code is not likely to give you that exact same movement. Think about all the mocapping they do with "real people" alot of that stuff isn't even 100% accurate in game and it's not just 2k, it's pretty much every video game.

Good point. Not expecting a 1:1 but movement is a big part of basketball and 2k has failed miserably in the movement department. Great point nonetheless my guy.
