    PS4 PRO Supersampling

I’ve played M19 on both PS4 Pro and PC (capable of max setting at 1080p), and came away woefully underwhelmed by the PS4 Pro version - both in frame rate and image quality.

Edit: Important to note that I’m using a 1080p monitor.

As I was giving the PS4 another shot today, it dawned on me to turn off supersampling, simply to see the result.

    Stunning.

The game is now just as smooth as the PC, the graphics as sharp, the grass, everything about the game visually instantly upgraded. What’s more, the menus are no longer sluggish.

Just to be sure I wasn’t having a placebo attack, I had my son check it out. I simply said I wanted him to look at two games, independently, and tell me if anything visually caught his eye as “different.” Immediately when I turned off supersampling and launched a game he noticed.

It’s real, folks. Check it out! Maybe this is already a thing, but, for me, it was a revelation.

[Settings] > [Sound and Screen] > [Video Output Settings] > [Supersampling Mode] > [Enable Supersampling Mode].

Does this work for every game?

Yes - every game, regardless of mode. Franchise is where I first tested, then MUT, etc.

Super sampling seems to only be an option for users with 1080p sets. If your set does 4K this option isnt available

Correct. Those with 4k sets will not have the option to enable.

I tried this and while the frame rate does appear smoother it’s a very noteciable visual downgrade. Without question.

For me, overall clarity of the image improved, such as the difference you might notice with FXAA vs MSAA - with FXAA adding a noticeable blur to the image in favor of reduced aliasing.

Perhaps the clarity could be chalked-up to image stabilization due to better frame rate, but, overall, I prefer higher, smoother frame rate to enhanced graphics.

An example of this preference would be in the curret iteration of MLB The Show - where you can choose higher frame rate vs a supersampled, sharper graphics with a noticeable frame rate hit. Personal preference.
