    NBA Draft 2019

Never too early to talk about the new guys. Yes the current rookies haven't even played their first game. But I'm excited about RJ Barrett and Zion entering the league.

    Re: NBA Draft 2019

    Two lefties.

Zion should be fun. I'm really rooting for the kid--despite his horrible life decision of choosing to be a Dookie--since everyone knocks his jumper and thinks he'll be a bust because of it, as if that's the only thing that matters. That's the Interwebz for you though. I love how intense he is and how hard he plays the game.

I hate making a lefty-to-lefty comparison but he reminds me of a superior version of Julius Randle; he's a bully on the court. Obviously a better athlete, can play more on the perimeter, and his handle is further along. Where Randle would face up from 15-18' out and bully his way to the hoop, Zion can do that starting at 23'.

I like Barrett's game but I'm undecided on how high his ceiling is.

That's exactly how I feel (expect the Dookies part lol)

What people don't know about Zion. Is that he was a legit guard before he grew into his body? Look at all his highlights from before his body came in. He was a legit 2 guard. obviously that's a highlight tape. But in this little snippet. You can see he had "skill" back then. Those aren't by mistake (at 16).

In terms of shooting, Like I said last year. Duke has a great program in developing players skill sets.

RJ Barret could be a James Harden type of 2 guard. With some PG skills to pass the ball. Remember his God father is Steve Nash. I think of Kyrie Irving when I think of God Father scenarios lol (Rod Strickland one of the best finishing guard)....Didn't hurt Kyrie much lol.

And I'm left hand so yeah I like these guys lol

Zion reminds me so much of Anthony Bennett at this point. Going to need to see a lot more of him this year at Duke before I even acknowledge that hype train.

Guys his physical profile are either boom (Charles Barkley & pre - back injury Larry Johnson) or bust (ala Bennett).

Never mind, he's (unofficially) has a 6'10" wingspan and 8'7" standing reach which is good, but not "freakish" which you need to be effective inside when undersized (look at DeJuan Blair's measurables for example). Athletically & size wise he seems likely he'll be fun & scary (for opposing players) to watch.

Duke doesn't develop players, they aren't there long enough. They have surpassed Kentucky as the preeminent one and done program. Kids are just there to show off their one on one skills for a year before they dip to the League.

Wrong... Look at all their players that have gotten through the program. Even after one year. They make huge jumps in their game. Whether they make it or not. That's a totally different story. Just because you go through a program one year doesn't mean you don't learn anything. That's the worst thing I've ever heard. I think of players like Boozer who couldn't shoot a jumper when he got on campus. Even Trevor Duval who had a funky jumper coming improved tremendously in his one year in the program.

Since he is a lefty, I’ve seen a couple people throw out the Rodney Rogers and Anthony Mason comparisons.

I think Zion is a rare type of athlete. His athleticism being able to move and jump as high as he does at 285 pounds is insane. Think he’s also a lot better passer than he’s gotten credit for. RJ is a very nice all around player. Figure he probably has the highest floor near the top 3-5 guys.

To weigh 285 and move like that is crazy, love watching him play. Hopefully the lakers can scoop him up barring any injuries!

If he gets another growth spurt he’s gonna turn into Shaq haha

If the Lakers are in a position to get him that means that LeBron got hurt during the first week of the season and was out for the year. I'm interested to see how he does in the pros but not on the Lakers. A 3/4 without NBA 3 range is an a big risk in today's NBA as a high lottery pick, despite the off the charts athleticism.

I just need to see a lot more from him in so many different areas. Nobody really comes into the league with that bulldoze bounce of everybody style of play and ends up successful anymore. Bennett busted out, Randle has already slimmed way down and been trying to get a jumper down.

His more ideal target would be a super athletic Draymond.. but skill and IQ wise Draymond seems quite a ways ahead.

Even Bennett seemed to have a better read for tempo and pace, better shooting touch, and better post game.. he was still a bust.

The unique athleticism will keep him around, he won’t be a bust, but until he shows better pace control, and that Blake Griffin like ability to face and go and finish over real bigs inside his insane athletic ability isn’t going to be catching my eyes for anything other than the dunk contest and fast breaks.

Barrett looks really good to me in terms of his size, athletic ability, talent, his build, etc..

But he’s randomly a bit awkward. Does anyone else think he runs a little too upright, he just looks funny mechanically. He seems relatively fast for his size, but not really fast by NBA standards. I’ll be interested in seeing how he looks at the combine, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he skips out.
