Need a a team to rebuild

I need a team to rebuild for The Show. I have five teams I'm looking at:

    Tampa Bay Rays
    Chicago White Sox
    Pittsburgh Pirates
    Oakland A's
    San Diego Padres

What does everyone think? Which team would be a fun, realistic rebuild?

I enjoy the White Sox, esp. Yoan Moncada, Jose's Abreau & Quintana, James Shields & even Welington Castillo.
Not terribly fond of Comiskey but it has sufficed adequately enough.
It also helps that I love to beat Detroit Cleveland & KC very much lol

I say Rays. In real life their budget restrictions make it difficult to sign their players and the only real success they had was after an extended run of top draft picks that panned out. Would be interested to see if you could piece together a winner built with pre-arbitration guys maybe built around one moderate star (which I think is realistic given their situation).

I would do A's personally. Not sure why just who I would choose...LOL

I’m playing with the Padres and having fun. Oakland is a good choice. Lots of dislike for their stadium but it looks beautiful in the game.

I did three years of a Pirates Franchise in 2016 and loved it. At that time they were making unique trades that you don’t see very often (like the Melancon deal) and they had some exciting prospects and a lot of big league talent. Now... not so much.

I would go for the Padres. Cool stadium, stacked farm, good unis.

Those are my two least favorite stadiums as well. But Oakland Coliseum actually is not bad in the game. They just need to fix the outfield wall dimensions. That has bugged me for a while. Seems like step number 1 in making the game would be to get something as simple as outfield dimensions right. I dont get it.

One team you're not looking at, but I feel like could be fun.

If stadium is the only draw back to using the A's, you could always play their home games in an old time park

Re: Need a a team to rebuild

Not on the list but the jays are fun as a rebuild for the first time in a couple years. I’m building a team around vlad jr and bo bichette. They have a few decent young arms and deep outfield prospects who I’m basing around Pillar. I dealt Donaldson pre season for Tyler O’Neill(who has 30 homeruns for me) and a pitching prospect. Not sure if I’m keeping Smoak in the off-season but I do like he switch hits with power. Everyone else, Morales, Granderson etc are gone in the off-season. Oh and then there is Osuna closing who is absolutely lights out for me.

I like trying playing in the AL east because it keeps the game interesting all season. It’s hard to run away with that division. Red Sox are 82 and 35 in my franchise. Yankees and us were battling for second for awhile there but they have pulled away lately. I’m a few games back of the wild card mid August.

I'm leaning A's or Rays but those stadiums are atrocious. Both small market and young. White Sox is curious as well. Any more thoughts?

I think I'd go with the Rays out of these teams. The White Sox have intriguing prospects, and the A's have a good young core, but I feel like the Rays would be an interesting, challenging rebuild, especially if you can get past the stadium issue.

I agree with the Tigers. I also agree with TB being out of the running for their stadium. Part of my decision making process would be to figure out what stadium I want to play half my games at. What do the other teams in the division look like? Again, with Tampa you have the Sox and Yanks to deal with. Tough to rebuild facing those line ups. I've always liked the Pirates stadium, their division, and their franchise when it comes to playing a random game. So that would be my choice, then Detroit, White Sox, and A's.

Re: Need a a team to rebuild

I just started a Pirates one using rules/moves from the trade forum. I've simmed up to today (Did the draft), and am going to end up simming all the way to the offseason after I do the trade deadline.

They've got enough pieces that you can move to add a bit of youth, but not enough to make it too easy. Also PNC is beautiful. Looking forward to actually playing games to start season 2!

It actually does. I started a franchise with them and I am really enjoying it. Not sure why their stadium looks so nice but I don't mind playing in it at all.

I think the Giants would be a fun team...

Older veterans who are tailing off within the next couple of seasons. Question marks surrounding Bumgarner, Melancon, Strickland, and not much of a staff behind the two of them to speak of. They are in somewhat of a window of opportunity, but as a betting man, could you really put faith into this roster to, at the very least, take down LA or Arizona for the division?

I think middle of the road teams like San Fran, Toronto, Seattle, and NYM, are a lot more fun than the dumpster fires (or deep rebuilds) that are KC, CHW, Tampa, Baltimore, and Cincinnati. It puts immediate pressure on you as a manger to make the hard decisions and follow through with your game plan at the start, or else, you're looking at a very extended period of time where you aren't or barely are competing.
