    Conan Exiles

    Anyone have this game yet?
    The premise sounds really interesting.

I have been playing this for over a year now. It has come a long way since then. But I can say for me, it hits all of my buttons in a good way. I have truly enjoyed this game and I am still enjoying it today. Have not picked it up for PS4 yet but I have every intention of doing so.

      Thanks Bullit!
I'm reading the descriptions and it sounds like you can build structures? Even towns and help develop civilizations?
In the IGN review it says the single player stuff is boring compared to the MMO portion.
      Is this accurate?
And is the combat any good?

Yes you can build structures. Honestly the crafting in this game is top notch and one of the best features. You can form clan and basically build your own city of you have enough people.

I dont think the single player stuff is boring at all. I dont know why, but I have fallen in love with games like this. I have beaten almost all of the Maps in Ark, playing Solo and I have been playing Conan Solo as well as playing with a small group of friends on a private server.

Ark is all about the raiding of other players and control of the server (which is why I play Solo) and has no real other elements to it. If you are playing Solo then base building is really just cosmetic and for your own enjoyment.

Now Conan, on the other hand. Since its full launch has added a thing called the Purge. Where at intervals armies of creatures, men or monsters can sweep across the land and attack you base or bases, even in single player. So you have to design your base with defense in mind even if you are playing by yourself. Single player in Conan you still have Dungeons, Boss Fights, Exploring and random adventures, all of the same stuff you have in Online. Just no other players attacking your base or you. But the world is full of NPC's to interact with and fight. If you like playing Solo, which I do, I have never been bored at all. As a matter of fact at some points I enjoy the challenge of Solo more. While playing with my friends is a blast, sometimes it gets a little easy to beat stuff when you have 4 guys kicking ***.

Combat IS a little clunky and the AI is easily the worst part of this game. I am just being honest. There will be times when you just cant help but throw up your hands with a resounding "Really game, really!!!" Like I had a boss fight with a giant spider that refused to climb off a 10 foot cliff and just sit there while I peppered it with arrows, LOL. But if you let that stop you, you are missing out on a great game. Really if you are even slightly interested don't miss out on playing this one.

I've been looking for a game and I was thinking about either this or Assassins Creed Origins. This game sounds like a tonne of fun.
          Thanks again!

I saw one combat video and it looks pretty bland and boring. Not sure if that’s at the beginning when it just seemed like a one button combat system but it seemed really out dated.

                Re: Conan Exiles

Looks like this game has come a long way.

My buddies and I contemplated picking up a year or so ago on Steam but decided against it. At the time it was buggy and just another "Early Access" under developed game.

In the past 2 days I've been asked about it from a few people, seen it pick up steam here at OS and read a handful of reviews who compared release with now and talked about how much this game has changed for the better.

May be time to give this another serious look.

Yeah, thanks for the insight, Bullit. I'll probably hold off, but definitely will consider this over Ark for single player, if I ever get one of these.

I ended up going with AC Origins because of a sale on Amazon.
And I'm guessing Conan will be on sale within a month or so.
Still really interested in this game, especially after Bullitt's review.

                          Intriguing.

Is there a game or combo of games you'd compare this to?

It seems like it's doing different things all at once.

How different are the dungeons? And the world? I see that it's supposed to be massive but is it truly awesome to travel to New places or do you start to feel like it's a lot of the same just with different colors or snow?

This is a tough question. In some aspects it is a lot like Ark. You have base building and survival, but no taming of creatures. It is doing a lot of different things at once and it balances them well in my opinion.

The community in this game is great. As I said before in Ark its about taking over and controlling a server. In Conan it is more about building a community and then maybe going to war with another clan. Yes there are siege engines. But this has always seemed secondary to me. The lore and feeling of this world is just different, I don't really know how to explain it. The challenge in this feels real? Even leveled up there are monsters and fights that are dangerous and make you second guess yourself if it is really worth it.

Dungeons to me feel different at each one. But they are still dungeons, if you get my meaning. Sure they all look and feel different or have different challenges. But you play enough games and a dungeon is a dungeon. In Conan they do have more flavor and lore if you look for it and want to invest time in reading it and finding it, which I do.

Each Biome does have its own feel. Plus creatures and monsters vary from area to area and in toughness. In the southern area you have Hyenas and Spiders. Alligators swim in the rivers. Other exiles wander or set up camps. Travel into the North and now you see Mamoths and Frost Giants, big cats and wolves roam the lands. Bandits and true warriors can dog your trail or set up a fortified base for you to attack. To the East lies the swamps and jungles filled with Giant Gorillas and Cannibals.

All of this is in the Single player experience as well. There is just so much to do, craft and explore. Sure there are some issues and bugs, but show me a game today that doesn't. I paid $15 dollars for this game and have put over 400 hours into it. I actually have two installations of it on my laptop so that I can play one with my friend and one completely solo. I could go on for hours telling you all of the things that you can do or explore and find in this. But I truly don't want to ruin that " oh dam!" moment when you see something new or realize how something work or who someone is for the first time.

One thing I do want to add to all of my comments. In Conan Exiles the grind is real! Nothing and I mean nothing in this game comes easy. I would almost liken in to this being the Dark Souls of Open world survival games. You WILL die and you will die often. There are adjustments you can make of course to make in harder or easier to your liking, but this game does not pull punches and it does not hold your hand. Unless you go online and look, you have to figure everything out thru trial and error.

Again this game is brutal. But I do love it and play it almost every day.
